Hi! We've made a major addition to newtfmpage, and that is a big song bank. Dhool features thousands of songs for your listening pleasure. This site is a part of the newtfmpage.com - swara.com group. Together with newtfmpage, we wish to make this the best place to listen to tamil film songs online and know about tamil film music. Our collection includes old, new, famous, rare and unheard of songs. We are still fine tuning and fixing the database errors, so please bear with us. We value your feedback, and this will help us build the site better. Please post your comments below or mail to comments@newtfmpage.com.
This work was done by us (bb and RR) with MS and swara.com ravi.

I had the great fortune of listeneing to Bhimsen Joshi singing for GKV recently and my friend informed me that the song is from a Kannda movie called "Santhya Raga" (1966).Such a flowing and wonderful composition in Hamsanandhi..Hindustani classical in its purest form. The man must have had a heart & Soul for musical experiments, a trait which his protégés imbibed to perfection.Poor GKV!

Happy new year to all of you.
I've been working over the holidays to update the SOTD archives. Song Of The Day Archive is updated with a new format. Now, it is easy to look up a song and read the discussions on the song. Song collections are created, check out SOTDs in different categories. There are other new features as well. Check it out!
http://www.dhool.com/sotd_archive.html
I will be creating more categories this week. Please have a look and post your feedback.

bb, for categories- a couple more -semi/light classicals with songs like vedham nee, paattum naane, vasantha mullai and a few others. will go thru song list tomorrow. this list will of course keep adding
another would be MDs who were not well known or were one-time wonders, right now u have it grouped them into "others". talking about MDs like sivaji raja, A.A. Raj, Balabharathi and few others who just did few albums. all their songs in another category.
will let you know more later..

bb, the ram file shouldn't be a big deal. it can just be a text file listing the urls of all the sotd songs. I was thinking of doing this. just a little perl should do. maybe Prabhu already has something like that:)

sriram, i don't mind if people create their lists, but don't want to do it out of the box. if we cross 20 GB per month bandwidth, i have to pay 10 bucks for every GB..

Song of the Day: vetri ettuth thikkum etta from naam iruvar.
http://www.newtfmpage.com/cgi-bin/stream.pl?url=http://www.dhool.com/sotd/vetriettu.rm
- Sung by D.K.Pattammal in this 1947 AVM produced movie. Music by Sudharsanam to a Bharathiyaar song. This song remains an evergreen dance song, thanks to Kumari Kamala's performance in this song.
Other songs in Naam Iruvar include:
viduthalai viduthalai - T.R.Mahalingam
aaduvOmE paLLu paaduvOmE - D.K.Pattammal
sOlai malar oLiyO - T.R.Mahalingam
mahaan Gandhi mahaan - M.S.Rajeswari
vaaziya senthamizh vaazka naRRamizar - T.S.Bagavathi, Devanarayanan & co
sOlai malaroLiyO was featured in SOTD earlier:

- A detailed article on Naam Iruvar by Randor Guy is here: http://www.sangeetham.com/naamiruvar.htm
- Randor Guy writes in that article:
Kamala danced to the songs, " ADuvOmE paLLu pADuvOmE…..." and " vETTri eTTU dikkum eTTa.!". These famed Bharatiyar songs highlighting the freedom sprit were sung off screen by the famous classical Carnatic musician and top star, D. K. Pattammal . A much applauded and highly respected lady of culture and charm, she was one of the earliest women performers of standing and stature to sing as voice-lending off-screen 'play-back' singer in Tamil cinema. The credit of introducing such an eminent musician to movies goes to Meiyappan. Indeed in the song sequence an announcement is made over loud-speakers about her singing. It was a novel introduction during 1940's in South Indian cinema.. The music was composed by the AVM-in house music director, R. Sudarsanam, A person of much talent and skills with an excellent track record he is sadly under-rated and his work and contribution to Indian cinema need a reappraisal by film historians.
The Kamala dance numbers of both songs were choreographed by Vazhuvoor Ramaiah Pillai and the sequences not only proved to be the highlights of the film but also created film and cultural history. A cultural event in celluloid
The two Bharathiar song-dance sequences became so popular that to this day after fifty-plus years on historic occasions like the Indian Independence Day- , August 15- Doordarshan ( the government. - owned TV channel of India) and other privately -run satellite TV channels telecast these scenes of " Nam Iruvar" every year.

There is an old song starting 'ulakil iraNtu kiLikaL'. SPB, and TMS sing together in this song(+ female voice include Suseela, I think Janaki also). Should be very early SPB song, as I could guess from his voice, but I don't remember anything else. Can anyone get more info on this? Rosavasanth.
