Surprise comes in different packages. This time its in the form of a rather low hyped music release. PC Sriram's "Vaanam Vasappadum" by Mahesh. Before picking up the album, i thought that couple of songs would be good. But to my surprise all the songs on initial hearing completely knocked me down. Wow! Be it the rocky "Uyire Uyire" by Hariharan and ganga or the wonderfull duet "Kangal theendi" this album is sure the best of this year to me. Below is the list of the songs and my views on it. Let me know what you think of these songs guys!!
1. Vaanam Vasappadume - Timmy & Srinivas
I guess this is the title track. Great song this is . The song has a rockish feel to it.
2. Megame
Sung by harini. Didnt really impress me on initial hearing. Let me give the song a few more chances.
3. Kangal Theedi - Hariharan & Sujatha - Vairamuthu
THe way the song starts with sax is amazing. Hariharan and sujatha's melliflous voice then takes over. An wonderfull duet. One of the very best duet of this year. Listen to the sax, its been put to perfection in the song. Perfect tamil pronunication,( which eludes tamil songs of late!!) and great orchestration. An out of the world song. I'm hooked
4. Kanne Kanne
The song starts as a soft ballad and then . Very good rendition by srinivas.
5. Vaanam Uyaram
ANother duet by Harish Ragavendar and Gopika Poornima. Nice song. A good duet.
6. Uyire Uyire - Hariharan and ganga.
This one rocks!!. An absolute gem. No further explanation. Hear it to believe it. Wonderfull song.
7. Seithi Suda
Again a rockish song by Ranjith. Its a bit song. Good one.
Over all the album is a whiff of fresh air. Let me know what you think about the album guys.

Osho, yes it looks like Sundar babu is the one who completed the work. He also seems to be the son of veeNai chitti babu.

I'm also quite surprised that so far no songs are available online. Not in raaga or in musicindiaonline.com
BB, have u had a chance to hear the songs. The duet's in the film are absolutely wonderfull. I'm wondering how pc would justify the songs with his visual!!!!

I think Isaac Thomas Kodukkapully also did the BGM score for Balu Mahendra's kadhai neram, tele serial in sun tv. The title music of that serial was nice.

Osho,
Thanks for uploading songs, making them demo is so right!
Super songs! Kangal Theendi & Vaanam Vasapadume Theme song both very sweet & different. The Jaaz in kangal theendi is awesome!
I feel very sad that this MD didnt recieve proper recognition while he was alive. May his soul rest in peace.
PC.Sreeram's film after Kuruthi Punal. Looking forward to its release.

Kum_laden,
Ditto, the way srinivas sings in the vaanam vasapadume is out of the world. Also if you notice the lyrics, it just blends with the song. No rhyme stuffs, no "mayilu" followed by "kuyilu", "railu" followed by "jayilu". After a long time a complete album.

After a long wait i got hold of the CD...definitely worth it
feels sad that mahesh wdid not receive enough recognition when he was alive....but he seems to have weaved magical tunes just before he passed away...
The songs are beautifully rendered.....great music with some magnificent lyrics...not just from vairamuthu but also from kavivarman...
and ofcourse what a relief to hear tamil sounding like tamil.....kudos to all the singers for appropriate and correct pronounciation...
try this album for a change...it is beautiful....

This month brings ARR's AE & NEW, YSR Aethiree and Mahesh's Vaanam Vasappadum. the thing that is so great is each album is way different from the other so there is no repetitiveness and one can enjoy all 4 albums and cant be compared all 4 are great it is truly sad Mahesh passed away.

Mahesh had also done an album with
"Veenai" E. Gayathiri called "Butterfly"
did you guys listen to the BGM of "Kuruthipunal"
there were some beautiful moments.
I liked the arrangement at the end credits in that movie.
"Vaanam vasappadum" is a pleasing album, an easy listening expereince. I enjoyed it, I remember Sujatha writing about the songs in Kumudam recently.
