Dei Buddan,
Unnakallam 'Kothaval chavadi lady, yappa yappa Iyappaa' madiri Ganna pattudhanda layakki.
You are not fit to hear IR's great musical hits.
Just try to hear some of his early hits during 1980's and then comment.
He has tuned to around 10,000 songs and still going strong with new & new varieties without any
repeatitions.
Songs with rhythemetic beat are available throughout the world. But melody tunes are available only & only from IR.
I was proud when some of my American friends appreciated some of IR Songs and have become his fans. One of my US friend even went to the extent of playing IR's 'How to name It' in a grand college function organisedn here at BOSTON. The music was appreciated by one and all as it was something totally new to there brand of music.
Pl.be proud to have excellent musicians like IR & ARR in TN who r capable of perfoming to international trends. Infact ARR himself has worked with IR for 2 years and he still openly admits that IR is his favorite MD.
I expect your 'Apologizes' for your cheap comments.

IR has proved his musical calibre in his various films.
Afterall musicians need encouragement to make them compose better.
Why r resorting to cheap comments in this thread.

Raja is one of the rarest composers that this planet has ever seen. No music can be compared to his as evry composition of his is a masterpiece. Lets us not resort to cheap comments on anybody's music as every music director renders his heart and soul to bring out a new one. Its just that raja is a genius and gifted that every touch of his instruments strikes wonders.

I finally had a chance to listen to 'Bharathy' songs today in http://www.raaga.com .
The songs are done very well by IR! The tunes are good,
the lyrics stand out beautifully without the music
dominating, and pronunciation by singers is very good. I
only wish SPB also had been used in the songs.

The one that i rate the best is, what i thot as yet-another-version of nallodhOr veeNai seidhE...
WOW!!!!!!! This is it...even barathi wud've got goose bumps hearing this...I found this more interesting than the one in maRupadiyum... I was moved to tears when Raja joins "vallamai thArAyO".....
Easily the best one in the album...

My order of liking of 'Bharathi' songs:
1) Nalladhor Veenai (for the soulful rendering)
2) Ethilum Ingu (for the raga selection & interludes)
3) Bharatha Samudayam (for the 1st BGM) - pls hear the sound of waves at the start!!
4) Vande Matharam (for the orchestration)
5) Ninnai Charan (for the rendering & orchestration)
6) Mayil Pola (for the rhythm and simpleness)
7) Nirpathuve (for the mellowness)
8) Kelada (for music)

Did you all notice that through out the album, IR has used soft, mellow voices and tunes? Looks like he deliberately stayed away from the passionate rendering of Bharathi's song we are so familiar with! (I think I am looking for the word, 'veeram'.) I felt he was trying to go beneath the popular image of Bharathy and tried to explore Bharathy- the person, the artist, the poet. Not just the angry young man. That is what I found very, very interesting.

Just my thoughts, kanthimathi. I had posted my earlier observation on `thani oru manidhanukku...' being jubilant rather than an angry pronouncement. Raja captured the most appropriate emotion of the poet, IMO, for those lines! (It's part of `Bharatha samudhAyam vAzhkavE')
I wish to also cite here the above-average capability of IR to appreciate poetry. This is evident from an article which he wrote as part of the series `rAjAvin pArvaiyil' in A Vikatan. He commented on the kuRal `ennandRi kondRarkkum' in an excellent way by linking the `seinnanRi konRa mahaRku' exclusively to that of the gratitude that the children owe to parents! (Since the term `nandRi' itself epitomises gratitude, which type of `gratitude' won't be pardoned he asks..then focusses on the word `mahaRku' which according to him refers to sons & daughters who owe a lot to their parents...if they are not grateful, it will never be pardoned...any other ingratitude might be forgiven...)
I never read such an `urai' anywhere and was surprised and was wondering for a long time at Raja's capability to think different (which also fits logic very much!)

Eden,
In a Tamilsangam meet in NJ, 1995 IR was giving a speech and came up with a totally different perspective of "Kannavar" (husband) means. He says why wifes call their husbands as Kannavar is because for them husbands are KANN (Eye, AVAR (Him), ie., kannavar enbavar Kangalai Pola.
Though this sounds little funny but I was surprised by his intellect.

I listened to the album again after I posted my comment. I agree with some people, - 'nallathor veenai seythe' was the most haunting song of the album. I always felt that Bharathy wrote it in a moment of extreme pain and frustration - his agony of having the sensitivity to undesrstand everything that is right and wrong in the world, and his lonliness that he can't make most people understand the depth of his own emotions or passion.
I found this pain reflected accurately in this song. Quite disturbing. Especially IRs voice...

kanthimathi,
that was very well put...I too share the same opinion of yours. Barathy wud 've written it in extreme frustration...May be folks who know about barathy's history can shed some light.

kanthimathi,
The veeram you are referring to is ambient in 'kElada'. It has 'midukku'. rAjkumAr bArathy's voice has been modulated, 'la seergAzi' but instead of 'ganeer' it has 'mellowness'. Whoever thought of this idea of modulation deserves appreciation.
That 'nallathOr veenai' song is very novel in format as well. These are the kind of innovation which has enabled IR to stay longer in TFM without the audience finding it boring and predictable.

I quite liked the song, 'Edhilum Ingu...' for the different music and the rendering. Madhu Balakrishnan has done a great job in his first (I think so) movie. Was disappointed with 'Agni kunjondru...' by KJY. It could have been rendered with more vigour though the music was good
