Kamal's new movie - ROBOT

Rumour has it that Shankar is teaming up with Kamal to come up with a futuristic new movie entittled ROBOT.

Music is reportedly to be composed by AR Rahman.

Looking at Kamal's past movies (Nammavar & Avvai Shanmughi) were actually based on Robin Williams Dead Poet Society (loosely) and Mrs. Doubtfire, could it be that THIS movie will be based on Williams latest movie Bicentennial Man? What do you guys think?

  I don't think so. The above mentioned movies are kamal movies. Robot will be shankar's movie. Don't expect any stealing from English movies.

  Shankar has a tendency to steal good stuff from hollywood, may not be the whole movie.
  
  Indian's last scene was a direct lift from last scene of "silence of the lambs."

  Nammavar was more like 'Stand and Deliver' or 'To Sir With Love' or 'Stand By Me' than 'Dead Poets Society'.
  
  Bicentinial Man was such a bore of a movie. Hope Kamal can spice it up. Like he did with 'She Devil' to come up with 'Sathi Leelavathi'.

  Let the Big directors think in normal lines and make an interesting film. Shankar Manirathnam etc opt for unusual themes and finally fall at the feet of A.R.Rahman for minimum guarntee collections
  Now Shankar's Robot has screenplay by Sujatha and one hopes he is not repeating VIKRAM style again.
  
  Can't they give a simple but sweet films like kuch kuch hota hai or Ullathai Alli Tha....Sunder.

  Shankar and ManiRathnam are talented creative directors and are the best in business.They go for the best talent in other fields(incl. music).
  They have utmost for respect ARR and ARR feels the same way too.
  
  In other words both need each other for bringing out the best.The fact that they fall at his feet is not a healthy statement at all.
  
  That may have been the case for RajKiran or KasthuriRaja with IR.
  
  Does Spielberg think along the normal lines?Why do you want MR or Shankar to come down to the level of C.Sundar to restrict themselves to B and C Centres?
  
  If you are longing for movies like Ullathai Alli then watch its original and much much better version in "Sabash Meena".Coming to KKHH don't you think Chopra clones are suffocating us with mostly immature themes.They are catering to Hindi audiences whose taste in my opinion are much lower than B center movies in Tamil.

  Shankar will have the upper hand when it comes to the script for Indian movies.He prefers a very Indian social theme for his movies.
  So,I'm sure Kamal will have a good script and also technology to spice up his talent.

  KAmal needs to get back his money after a huge crash of "heyram the movie", so i am sure
  kamal will cooperate with Shanker.

  , he knows both he sides pretty well, he will serve as bridge...i dont forsee any problems, production of "Indian" went smooth,

  I also think "robot" will go smooth as long as Kamal is committed to Shankar.My concerns are based on the release dates of Kamal's movies.
  
  The earliest date "robot" will be released would be next Diwali(2001).Kamal has "Tenali" for this Diwali and "Aalavandhan" probably next Tamil new year(Suresh krishna(SK) usually finishes his movie fast and it doesn't have ARR's music :)).
  
  SK does well when it comes to Commercial movies(IMO in the present he is the best Rajni director).Coming to the point,if both these movies become a hit, then Kamal will start creating problems for Shankar like altering the storyline or ask him to include a couple of emotional scenes(loud crying scenes OH PLS SAVE ME) and also a near affair scene with the heroine.
  
  Also,I'm sure there will be atleast one disagreement on the music front.Though ARR wouldn't give a damn about him.

  I agree the songs went on to make the movie a big commercial hit.But, the movie would have vibed well even without the songs.It had a strong plot and a good storyline and a mature love theme.
  
  If you notice the second half of the film which was more absorbing,it had only one good song(Kaadhal Sadugudu) and a forgetful badly picturised song(September maatham).At which point everyone would have been begging MR to continue the story.
  
  Don't you think the first half would have been more crisp without songs?
  
  So,I think the dependence is mutual.One became a Master MD because of the Director and the other is still Master Director because of the Composer.

  I see MR and Shankar more as successful businessmen than directors (creative etc.,). What all they do is to sell their product well. Unfortunately they use their creativeness to do that and that is bottom line.Calling them a great directors would be just foolishness(IMHO).
  
  And apart from that just using the latest technology, tech savvy peeople doesnt show any creativity. MR always has particular formulae and will never come out of that. Shankar also that same. They sticking to ARR is just to make sure that their product sells well or will have some minimum guarentee.
  
  Also Kamal isnt creative enough as many people think. Most of his films are heavily inspired from English movies. He is a good actor in the current lot but if you see the English movies, you see how good he is when compared to those actors.

  Certainly KUCH KUCH and U. ALLI THA are not meaningful fims.But they are simple straigt pleasant films appealing to common man.

  Friend, your sidekick at IR (Rajkiran and KasturiRaja) is quite unwarranted; I'd like to remind you that the 4 most critically acclaimed Tamil films in recent times - "Hey Raam", "Sethu", "Bharathi", and "Karuvelampookkal" - had music by IR.
  
  I also can't really see your problem with KKHH or Ullathai Alli Thaa, when you consider MR's and Shankar's work as the 'best' of the genre.

  Can you substantiate that?I nor my friends(who are IR fans)haven't heard of "Karuvelam Pookkal".
  I want to read atleast 2 or 3 critics review of that album.Thanks in advance for sending me the sources for the reviews.
  
  I thought I was sidekicking KasthuriRaja and RajKiran not IR.If you are fan of KasthuriRaja(KR) or RajKiran(RK) I'm sorry.Till now I had the wrong opinion that nobody would be a fan of KR or RK.

  I agree they are successful businessmen.I also think they are are good product makers.I don't think they have attained the stature of Bill Gates to market their product successfully inspite of not a good enough product.
  
  I again want to say that when best people combine their product is in a different plane altogether.

  go to Hindu archives, chennaionline.com entertainment, indiainfo, arramthinai.com, tamilcinema.com. Its all still there. Karuvelam pookal may not be rythm standard movie making hype news in cnn bbc. But, it did get good reviews. May be the name wasnt that catchy to catch many eyes.
  
  UAT is shameless hash of shabash meena and andaz apna apna. If thats the standard you want you can rent sv shekar drama videos.
