P Susheela or Vani Jairam - who is the better singer?

  - which meant "Suseela voice nalla illa". But honestly the first thought that came to my mind when I heard this (please forgive me) was

  Hello: I usually contribute to Old Songs forum. I all my short writ-ups I have consistently asked listeners to avoid comparing singers. I would appreciate if someone revisits my earlier pieces. Every singer is unique. They bring with them their own style and quality to playback. PS/VJ/SJ/SPS and many others have done great service to TFM. Many younger crop of singers look to most of them as their mentor. In TFM after MKT, the only known legendary female singer is PS. The contribution she has made in terms of number of films/languages/actresses is so large that we can never complete it. Not that other great artistes such as VJ or SJ has done too little. She has been there for more than 40+ years. Even SJ/VJ and many others have appreciated her existence and recognized her as their peer. I love PS/SJ/VJ for the kind of songs that they have given thier voices to. Truly each one of the said artistes deserve mention in the history of TFM. Sadly today I miss these singers as they are no more popular or the composers have changed thier style.

  Hi Vicky, that's not me. Some cheap idiot is trying to mimic me. But, the very first posting was mine though...and that is not at all a comparison. It was just that I was shocked when someone said that he didn't like P Suseela's voice! Mathapadi onnum perisa illa! And what you have said is right.

  No doubt Vani is a great singer ..but no comparison with the legend that is PS. Vani forgot herself after hearing 'Nalai indha velai parthu odi vaa nila' What a great song !
  Vani too has rendered great songs like Megame Megame and some fundu bhajans but PS with TMS created a record that can never be surpassed any time.

  I don't know why people want to compare two people everytime....Likes and dislikes differs. If you dont like then say it like that. Don't condemn others likes and dislikes and make big fuss.

  Some biased (MH) opinions:
  a) PS is much better in solo's than VJ (tons of songs as proof...VJ had her mEghamE, nAnE nAnA & Ezhu swarangaLukkuL, malligai etc. but they were only a handful compared to the 1000's of PS)
  b) PS is much better than VJ in duets with TMS,AMR & such singers who excelled from 50's-early 70's (there may not be many for VJ anyway)
  c) VJ is much better than PS in duets with SPB, KJY & JC (pls go through the VJ songs thread for samples); however, SJ is many steps above in this category w.r.t VJ or PS
