Let me start this one.(It had been there previously pls. forgive me!)
"Ezhu swarangalukkul ethanai paadal..
Ithaya surangathul ethanai kelvi...
Vaazhum manitharukkul ethanai salanam.."
Wow! Beautiful voice!

i am surprised and curious. why do you say like this? may be you meant urdu-speaking muslims. even then, many of my friends (urdu-speaking muslims) like tamil songs only.
pl. don't generalise things.

marathi songs by VJ:
Here is a Marathi duet between VJ and Kumara Gandharva. Though I have had strong opinions on VJ in northern languages, in this particular song, VJ sounds very sweet - indeed sweeter than any other song of hers I've heard. And though KG has sung the more difficult part, he has truly messed it up with a few histrionic and hysterical acts.
I dont know who has composed this song, but just that it won VJ a Maharashtra state honour. VJ always mentions this song in all her interviews.
There was another duet with him that she sang, but in that she was made to just hum a few lines in the interludes. Indeed one has to be told that its VJ singing that - its so obscure and inaudible.
http://musicindiaonline.com/music/l/030807/?20
(the song is "runanubandhanchya tuttoon padilya gaathhi)
VJ also got to sing for an ENTIRE Marathi album called Prem Pise ("feathers of love" - whatever that means) composed by a person called Dashrath Pujari. This has another ghzal-like song "nacha sahavto ha bhaar".

Thanks.

Summa Kekalaam, Karthi, Paravaillai! Yes, I am a muslim,urdu-speaking "tamizhan"...people referred to me as "paadhi paapan" during my years in Chennai, where I spent a good part of my early life. Yes, it is a rare thing, so I am one adhisaya kurinji malar!

Has anyone heard this song (VJ and TMS (or MVD?) - I don't recall the name of the film but the song goes like this:
Ey Mama Ponnu, Rosa Poove Va Ma Kannu...
I think it was a Radhika-Sudhakar film...But I might be mistaken. Details...? Nandri (meendum varuven!).

I think the song is from 'Enga Veetu Jannal??'
The MD is SG and Sung by MVD/VJ
My other guess would be 'Jyothi Malar'
The combinations being the same (MVD/VJ/SG)

Ethir Veetu Jannal was an Anjali Devi movie, right? Or am I confusing it with some other jannal? Oru jannalai thirandhen....ammamma yethanai jannalalgal!!
I know the music was by S-G - thanks for the confirmation...Was it Enga Veetu Roja? Raja? Rasa?
Sudara Tamizh - Sometimes a few spicy phrases and some sizzling truths - to shut (stupid) people up!
Sundara Tamizh - Like a veena that inspires the fingers...with an innum vendum innum vendum pallavi!
Sutta Tamizh - When a tamizh joke (kadi) becomes insufferable in memory...(adi-kadi??)
Just off the cuff thoughts...some Thedeer Definitions? Sariya, Karthi?

Yenni irundhadhu Yeedera...a very nice duet by MVD/VJ from Andha 7 Naatkal. Another VJ/MVD gem is Sugam Sugame Thoda Thodathaane...from Sagothara Sabatham. MVD/VJ combination worked well in some Tappanguththu numbers as well.
Sangeetha Vaanil was also a nice song by VJ/SPB? - music by S.A.Rajkumar. Don't recall the name of the movie.

I think there was a duet by VJ and ? in a movie called "Pudhiyavan" starring Murali, Ravindhar and Aneetha. Can someone recollect that song? (The songs in this movie were pretty melodious!)

The song from Thillu Mullu is "Andha Neram Poruthirundhaal Nalla Anubavam Kidaithirukkum..."
A really soothing solo, Priya.
I can't recall the song from Pudhiyavan. Ramki/Neel/Ragavan...any clues?

This is what Mr Sundarraman (observer) has to say about the "seethapathe" part in "brocheva". I am the wrong person to comment on this, having ZERO knowledge of classical music.

Hi Ajit,
Sorry for the delayed response. Listen to the piece in 'brOchEvA'
where she puts out 'Sa Ni Da Pa Ma Ni Da Pa Ma', esp. Ni, Da, Pa,
Ma. This song is in kamas raagam and therefore judge accordingly.
This slip alone would not have been the criteria to snatch the award
from her. That was my point. Nice to know you. I sincerely hope that
the thread does not degenerate into another 'worshipping' thread
where anybody who says anything about the artiste is spat upon.
Thanks a lot,
AVR

AVR - thanks for the reference. Did you check with him if it was ok to post it here? Do you expect me to counter this - especially when he is so concerned about not being spat upon? Can we just let it go?

I didnt feel it necessary to check that out. We are all discussing music here. There is nothing wrong in doing that IMO. I had no intention in hurting him at all, but in fact he should have posted this opinion right away on the forum itself.
Also, do tell me in your mail to me, whether the above thing about "seethapathe" is right or wrong.
Thats all. NOM whatsoever!!

Naaz, that was meant to be posted here anyway, but I refrained from doing so, owing to monotony. You may or may not wish to respond to this. Furthermore, the concern is not about being spat upon as much as it is about the thread becoming a deepa ArAthanai corner for 'worshippers'.
Your take on the tone having a say in the perceived versatility was pertinent, but not for once have I doubted Lata's versatility atleast w.r.t expressive singing. A sensitive artiste never finds himself/herself short of opportunities to convey the mood, every 'roll' of the voice seems to be so much in accordance with the overall purport of the song. This factor, to me affects me more than the rest and therefore my negative comments on VJ's playback talents.
Karthi....well what can I say. Leave the poor fellow (SL) alone and let me have some fun here :))
