Dear Friends,
Let us vote for 'Adi Rakkamma' from THALAPATHI as our choice for the World's Top Ten Songs poll conducted by BBC!
I am suggesting this song because if in case the BBC people listen to the nominated songs, they will feel knocked out on hearing our Maestro's 150 Vioins' Strings Ensemble!
Let us all do it at:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/worldservice/us/features/topten/
Yours Always Musically,
Vijay.

paticularly want to check this one out:
World Traditions
Pedro Aledo - La mere (feat Hakim Hamadouche) (7:30)
Beautifully recorded the instrumentation and vocals blend together fantastically. This is one of the best pieces of World Music I've heard online.

Thanks for the tip Venki.
Haha! This is funny! Look at the size of no 2 and compare it wit no1.
Now more than half the world thinks RKT is the best song in the world.

btw, a tip for HCIRFs here.
It says Beatles has the most no of songs nominated (just 32). How about nominating all the songs IR has ever sung. Tat was IR will be the one with the most no of songs nominated and this time, his name will appear (rather than SPB or someone else). This way, u can make IR even more popular among the westerners.

"Asian Mozart from Madras" is a quote from Daily Mail. This is how it goes:
"Once you enter the spirit, the show, cannily produced by Andrew Lloyd Webber, is a delight. And it brings to a mainstream audience the astounding musical talent of AR Rahman, the 36-year-old "Asian Mozart" from Madras who has sold more records than Madonna and Britney Spears combined."
Sorry for the digression.

sabesan, of course I am jealous. My stomach is on fire. How can one not be when one looks at the pie chart? Sheesh. It makes Indians look so good, I am jus embarrased ARR's song is not taking half the pie. God save me from the disgrace!

Kum_laden, thanks. But, venki, the song list changed back to the original one again, while the pie chart is new. how did that happen? because a few hours bakc Led Zepellin was of the charts and Mariah Carey' Hero was no.2
Rahman will become Mozart himslef if the Media says, tht is the power of marketing.

one general comment from BBC website:
General comment:
I personally dislike this sort of poll since the original question ("best song in the world") is meaningless. And the results are odd. The three first ones so far give an idea of what I mean. If those are the three best songs in the world, then I might consider emigrating to a different galaxy.
However, there is another way of looking at it - and that is : as a game. As a bit of harmless fun. Steve Wright's choice of the Birdy Song seems to indicate that this is the case. But some people seem to be taking this quite seriously.

VANDE MATARAM-may be you can send this xavier chap the above link. The westerners are so used to their music, they simply cannot look at anything else as a music.
This song is a culmination of Ir's exposure to WCM type orchestration, our own dappanguthu and traditional hard core tamil music (abirami andhadhi). There has never been a song where all the three have been so seamlessly woven together.(and all this was written on to a paper straight from his mind-Raja,I bow to you!)what does this xavier know before making a comment like this and when ,as a indian and tamilian must have known better must have known even better than quoting a western chap.

Yaaro, very true. Thats a stunning capability that no other Indian music director would ever be able to match. Well said :-). Sheer brilliance!!...
And to think that "rakkamma" is just a drop of the ocean, well what have you...the staggering thing is, IR has not finished his chapter yet..PHEW !!!!

Yaaro :))
As for Symphony, the difference is that it never came out. Anyway, I really don't want to get into this game (Intha vilaiyaattukku naa varale) :)
However, I firmly believe that ARR fans would be happy to give IR his dues if only the HCIRFs are not so condescending.
After all it is not as if IR discovered music. :)
(Sabesan is hating every word I am saying - sorry buddy.) :)
Having said all that, I must admit that I was one of the first few to answer Vijay's call to vote for Raakkama kaiya thattu. Speaking of which, our TV showed this song after the interview with Shobana (which came after Mitr My friend movie.)
Since I am already in the digression mode, let me go on a little further. IN this movie MIF, although it is widely known that Bhava scored the music, the last song when the credits roll, which is an English song, is scored by Karthik Raja!
And belive me, it was damn good. Just goes to show that our people are very good and of international standard.
And here we are bickering over some lousy trivial stuff.
End Digression. :)

"However, I firmly believe that ARR fans would be happy to give IR his dues if only the HCIRFs are not so condescending."
reminds of the song "Kanavu kaaanum vaazhkaaai yaaaavuum" :-) somehow our friend never sees the "ugly"ness of ARR fans, but seems to be living no bricks turned when the same comes from an IR fan.... hmm funny.....

'and Aalavandaan - SYMPHONY got released or not - is not of any botheration..... HE DID IT - that is what matters.....'
If 'HE DID IT', how does it matter to you? He wrote down his creation on paper and had it performed by the orchestra of his choice. He heard it and he has had his fill. Going by the rumours, it was well appreciated by the performers. Critics have hurt a sensitive creator.... and some who appreciated his cinematic works can only guess the greatness of his symphony in their 'imagination' (I am sure a lot of his fans believe that the symphony is a colossal work of art even without hearing it).
What intrigues me is.... how can a creator not publish his work? Don't most creators depend on other people's acceptance for their own sense of achievment? only few have done art for its own sake.
He might probably release his symphony some day or it might just be available for public with or without his consent. But here is a man who has resisted the temptation of external validity for WHATEVER reasons. Is that a mark of greatness or insecurity?

selva - sorry, i was not clear..... what i meant by HE DID IT was - here was a man, who got the OPPORTUNITY to perform at some place - a recognition of what he is..... i never said - HIS SYMPHONY was GREAT or something like that.....
