saw this K. balachander movie on vcd yesterday...music is by MSV & songs are excellent...especially "maan kanda sorgangal"...the song was quite long by itself but it spreads througout the movie..anyone has any interesting info to share regarding this movie...maybe we should review a late 70's to 80's movie every week..I'm sure with Sreedar, manisegaran, saravanan & other well informed tfmers around, we can get many interesting informations...

  I was thinking about this song yesterday. SPB romba nanRaaga paadiya paadal. In the film this song comes in different situations.
  You are right; writing such a song is not easy. Kannadasan liked to write such songs.

  This movie was based on Sivasnakari s story with the same name.While the author s heroine underwent the torture at US ,KB shifted the venue to France.
  
  With Ullaasa paraviagal almost in the same time and shot more or less in similar locales,the viewers were a bit upset.
  
  In the story the intentions of the Hero(or Villian) comes to light as the story moves to US.But in the movie Siranjeevi(Delhi Ganesh dubbing voice) makes clear his intentions by removing the photo roll to clear the marriage evidences at the start itself.(Similar to Gayathri movie Rajini)
  
  Ramaprbha (Prob accompanying her then Husband Sarathbabu) had no place in the novel.
  
  Saritha s role too was not there in the novel.Personally i rate both the novel and movie POOR.
  
  Music by MSV.True "Maan Kanda" was a great song.But "Thottu Kattiya" too was a good song in MSV s ususal Bangos base (around this period he was in terrible love with this intrument!)But VJ s "Eval Unai" was a big let down with Ramaprabha dancing!
  
  Vikatan wrote MSV yin isyail "Adhisaya Ragam" padal arumai.......Sarath plays this song on the tape to Siranjeevi!But Kumudam ( a KB s natural ally!)was all praise for Saritha s cameo.
  
  Maan Kanda...I had (asusual!)many ideas about the picturisation.When
  
  "Than Vazhi selgindral" starts the beat completley changes and i was expecting JP to walk/run somewhere close to a railway track.KB just went on with his style.
  
  SPB just lives thru the agony when he sings"Thai veetu deivangal Thunaiyaga varatho ippothu"
  
  Overall ,this song in KD-MSV combo,JP were the saving graces of an otherwise poor movie.IMHO

  Hooray! I am 18....endrum 18, vayathu 18.... :)
  
  Problem is when the movie came out in 1981, SP must have at least been 25 and that makes her about 47 now. :(
  See the coincidence? 47 Naatkkal to 47 Vayathu!

  Hey guys do u all have anything to say abt the 1978 rajni movie "priya"...I guess it was the 1st movie IR did on 16 track in hongkong...is this true??? this movie was a total crap with some of the best songs ever came from jesudas/jency/Ir combo...I remmeber in a kamal interview televised in tv that he was very envious of the songs in priya especially "hey paadal ondru" & regreted why IR didn't gave him the song......

  as for siranjeevi acting due to 47 natkal being dubbed in telugu, it was also for the same reason JP was casted..she was a popular actress in telugu..it carried on 3 yrs later when the movie "saagara sangam" came out & was dubbed into "salangai oli"...

  After the story came out in Idhayam persugirathu the America Mapillai mogam .......their market value went down .There was a certain scare amongst "Pennai PetravargaL".
  
  The story s brahmin background must have interested KB for the adaptation.
  
  The movie did not create the same sensation ,the story created.Dialogues KB/ananthu... had a lot of Mauli touch."Yarum illatha pothu Rendu Kattilayum serthu pootu kurukka paduthuppen" for instance.
  
  Considering what one sees on SUNTV serials today Siranjeevi s character is sheepish!

  Sorry for joining the discusion belatedly. In Kumudam (or Vikatan) vimarsanam for '47 naatkal', the reviewer wrote that the film kinda diluted the villainy of the husband. Apparently, in the Sivashankari novel, she vividly brings out his character, and makes the readers loathe him. But, in the movie, the reviewer said the husband-character almost appears 'reasonable' when he says that he married Vaishali (Jayapradha) because he missed Indian food; that they could be together after he gets the French wife's money. :-)
  
  I wonder why K Balachandar did this. Perhaps Chiranjeevi was already too big a star to be portrayed as totally evil??
  
  I thought the movie was good, overall. The picturization was good too.
  
  What was Ramapraba's role? I forget.

  She played a "Pick pocket".
  
  Around 1979-80 ANR with hits like Premabishekham & Buchi Babu,NTR (Aatagadu),Krishna (Gharana Donga),Krishnamaraju (Gorintagu i think),Murali Mohan (Bommarillu) were the stars.
  
  Chiranjeevi also played Mohan s "Vidhi" role in "Gnyam Kavali"-another anti-hero.He was not big star then.His stardom came after NTR quit the scene.
