An encounter with IR

Guys,
I was able to have a tete-de-tete with IR at prasad studios.My cousin plays tabla for him.I sneaked with him to the studio and had a 30 mins talk with IR.The topics ranged from GURU to the current trends.
A mention of GURU really brightnend his eyes and IR told me that they did'nt market it alright.
They spent 25 days for re-recording and it was a herculean task.
I also brought in TFM to his knowledge and he seems to be aware of this forum ,"Kelvi pattuiruken".
I told him about the BGM project and following was his reaction in tamil ."Pannalam.Aanal orginal tracks thedi pedikunum".Nalla project".I also asked opinions with sadanand(music director sudarshan's son) ,who is IR's lead guitarist for 20 years.He liked the idea but was wary of copyright problems.
I just came back from chennai after a 2 month vacation.
The BGM project is really exciting.We have to contact individual production companies for the soundtracks.I gave it a shot with raj kamal but could'nt get hold of Kamal.Somebody will have to do the leg work at chennai .we can really pull it off.

  Just one question - how the heck did you maintain your composure enough to talk to him about newtfmpage and the BGM project ? :))) I started getting palpitations reading about your meeting with IR !!!
  
  For those who are interested, Rediff.com has posted my e-mail ( http://www.rediff.com/news/email.htm ) to them berating Deepa Mehta about praising ARR and ignoring IR and inviting them to newtfmpage. I hope this is ok with the newtfmpage Team - sorry guys, I wrote that mail spontaneously and only later did it occur to me that I ought to have gotten your permission. I just hope this doesn't bring any riff-raff into the DF ! The email stays on their site only for about a day - that's the good part ! Because I usually receive counter-protests whenever my mail to Rediff is posted ! And I don't want this letter to bring bad blood into the newtfmpage.

  Srinath: Great letter. But it is a lone voice in the wilderness. :-)). But ARR doesn't deserve so much dissing IMO.
  We have no problem with you giving additional exposure to the TFM page. This site is open to all. (If we have *never* had bad blood in TFMP before, I am sure no one is going to introduce it. ;-).
  AM: Take a look at IR in Malaysia thread in the archive. Mr. NOV, one of the DF regulars met IR when he was in Malaysia some time back and handed a letter describing the TFM Page and DF to him. The letter itself was written by Mr. SathiyaKeerthi another erstwhile regular to the DF. The letter is also available in the same thread. We heard later that of all the letters/gifts handed to IR, this was the only one he took back with him to India!

  Do we have that letter (given by NOV to IR) anywhere else on newtfmpage ? I was unable to get to the server where Sathiya Keerthi had posted the letter. It would be even better if someone could provide us with a transliteration in English. I do have Murasu but this would help others who don't.

  I just came in y'day from chennai and am caught up with lots of work .2 months is definetly a long break.I would write a detailed report on those great moments and post it on the web.Give me a little more time.I just wanted to pass off the gist.
  Also IR was kind enough to pose for a photograph with me and my bros and I have one blown up at home.It was unbelivable and was dazed for a couple of days.
  The worst part of it was that the adjacent studio is of Deva's and it was such a contrast to see two human beings of such contrasting work ethics recording in the same complex.
  Incidentally by cousin(Tabla Balu) has started to play for IR quiet regularly.

  You really got a great ( may be life time ) oppurtunity to talk to IR. We are eagerly waiting for your complete conversation.
  
  Also I think you are too lucky man. I envy you.
  
  I got an oppurtunity to see IR which I can never forget. When I boarded a IC flight from Bombay to Hyd, IR with Bhavatharani were sitting in first row in Ex class. It was just amazing. I passed them but couldnt even dare to approach him and even take his autograph or do something. My mind was blank just seeing him. Later I didnt get an oppurtunity ( for which I pity myself).

  Nice one srinath. I'm with you. Great thing about
  the BGM project. Regarding publicity, hype etc..
  IR's KK is getting the usual ARR hype. ITs top of chart
  at music world, chennai. KK sounds very different
  too(sound wise).. but the interludes spell Ilaiyaraaja's
  name. ITs the first time in a long time that his album
  is hyped. One more thing ... am I the only guy here
  who is residing at Chennai ? and in that case I'll be glad to help. Otherwise too :-).

  Hi All !,
  I received a couple of responses for my mail. I didn't read them right away because I thought they might be hate mails. I am posting one letter in the Dravidian Movement thread because I feel that is the nearest topic that we have to this subject. The other letter can go to the Rahman Bashers thread :-) BTW, thanks all of you for your words of support - but as Ravi said right at the beginning, let's not discuss the contents of my mail in this thread as that would be a digression. Meanwhile, I'll be waiting for AM's narration of his encounter with IR :-)
