NagaS, from this page http://www.hinduonnet.com/thehindu/mp/2002/01/14/stories/2002011400120300.htm , it looks like Sarangadhara was a play by Pammal Sammandha Mudhaliyaar.
Read somewhere else that MKT's AshokKumar was also a rehash of this story..

Thanks for the song bb,
VM wrote this as a kavithai in Aaanandha vikatan ... looks like the director of 'Nilaavee Vaa' (A. Venkatesan) wanted this song in his movie and took it with VM's permission ...
Song is a real great one - but reminds VS's classic 'malaree maunama' a little ;-)

A good song delivered by KJY, the composer of which is unknown to me. The orchestration is very simple. The songs starts in Brindhavan saranga and goes to desh. It reverts back to BS at the end of charaNam.

The composer for Maragatha was Shankar-Ganesh.The song resembles their earlier song "Thirunirai Chelvi Mangayarkarazi" from Idhya Veenai by TMS.

Ragagangal Padhinaru is a quiet, melifluous, magical song. SPB at his evocative best.

But was the 'origin of 16 ragas' ( rAgangal padhinAru uruvAna varalAru' explained in the song.

A very good song. Can some CM wizards clarify.
this one sounds like Valaji at the start ( mildly touching TKR s Vasantha Kalam Varumo from Marakka mudiyuma?) but as the song progresses it sounds like Amir Kalayani ? or ......? What?

Friends,
>>>>>Song of the Day: yEriyilE oru kashmir roja from MadhanamaaLigai.<<<<<<<
I think this is based on some raga, on which, Balamurali Krishna's "Thanga ratham vandhadhu bhoomiyile", is also based. I find a striking similarity between the two! Experts may like to comment!

bb- thank you for giving this melodious semi-classical song- a masterpiece by the great MBS.
Btw, it is a duet by KJY-PS and featured Sivakumar and an unknown actress called Alka.
(Raagam- Ameerkalyani?). Lyrics- Pulamaipithan.
Other good songs from the film include 'Under the mango tree' by Usha Uthup and 'Oru Chinna paravai' by SPB.
Madhanamaalaigal was directed by K Vijayan.

Thangaradham is Aboghi.Valaji is a " PA" murchana of Aboghi.( I think you can use the word tonal shift for the word murchana)In fact the song "Naanandri yaar" by TRM and APK you can find both these ragams in the same song.
AFAIK Eriyile inedde starts with valaji.

another interesting titbit is that MBS, who was the MD for this song, was the hero in a movie called Agrahaaraththil kazhudhai.. I remember seeing the movie on some sunday at 1.30 pm in doordarshan :)

Don't know about the Baby's Day Out bit. But your had me humming the song, and the other one "Madhanamaligayil Mandhiramalagala (?) from Ennai Pol Oruvan (?). Hint.

Naaz,
'Madhanamaligayil Mandhiramalaigalaam' is from 'Rajapart Rangadurai'. MSV had said that they (himself and Kannadasan) were trying two different tunes, when a coffee boy suggested mixing the two. On this, Kavignar shouted' Poda! This not decoction and milk!'. But MSV advised patience and the mixing idea worked!

Thanks for the information. Rajapat Rangadurai - Sivaji starrer, illaiya? Did he play a blind man in the film? Great song, though. PS and TMS - with that memorable "anbe, anbe" fade-out. MSV was right - it works to this day!
End digression.

As the name "Rajapart" indicates,Sivaji played a drama artist who noramlly takes the hero role.

Naaz- and I think you are thinking about 'Thavapudhalvan' where he played a blind man (Maalai kann noi)
- From: Naaz (@ 24.76.127.63)
on: Thu Sep 12 02:05:26 EDT 2002
Saravanan -
I remember Thavapudhalvan quite distinctly (particularly the LRE/Ajit Singh duet "Love is fine darling when you're mine" )- and you are right, Sivaji did play a character with malai kann noiin it.
Maybe, in the film I have in mind, he was not blind. But I remember an image of him in one of those nehru-sherwanis and wearing dark (blind person) glasses. Wish I could be more specific.
(bb - sincere apologies for prolonging this digression. But it is one of those rare perandu-fying moments.)

Naaz,
'Rajapart Rangadurai' by P.Madhavan had Sivaji and Usha Nandini (Remember Ammammaa thambi enRu nambi avan unnai vaLarththaan, thaayenRum thanthai enRum thannai ninaiththaan- Pathos and more pathos versions!?). In this, Sivaji had satisfied his fans by playing many bit roles on stage (Bhagat Singh(India zindabad, Hindustan zindabad, ThaayagamE ennarumai thaayagamE unnadimai theerumattum pOriduvOm annaiyin aaNai) and Murugan-Valli perhaps). I don't remember a Nehru sherwani, though!

CV - Got it now. I was missing the turban on his head! It is the same film. He wore a sherwani, turban and dark glasses - Bhagat Singh - Yes! Thanks!
Appada. Pernadu-fying over!
