My favorites are
1)Poomalaiye from pagal nilavu-magnificent.every time i listen to this song i pick up some new aspects in its music.
2)Andhi mazhai
3)engey nimamdhi.
i think , one of loss,in recent years after advent of synthetic music has been loss of such songs.

O Nenjame Idhu Un Raagame is easily the best orchestrated song ever. No other song has been this heavily and brilliantly orchestrative (to go bush style or even orchestrategery.)from Enakagu kkathiru.
yaaro, your 3 songs dont' rank even close to the below numbers.
Yaar Veettu Roja in Idhaya Koil is another great.
Desiya Geetham in that film is also equally fascinatiinng.
Then most of Guru songs in malayalm

If you mean by the word "grandest orchestration" means numerous no.of instruments, then I would say "Rakkamma" from Dalapathi.

Pudhiya paravai songs, especially, "Engey nimmathi" has the best orchestration.
There is no doubt that Viswanathan Ramamurthy changed the trend in orchestration with a variety for people to follow.
All MSV songs are appropriately orchestrated with a uniformity. Imagine in an era of single track recording with all the musicians play at a time in one sitting! Great orchestrators! Long Live!

I definitely enjoy MSV songs, I think he is a great composer and also agree visvanathan Ramamoorthy was a great pair and all that...
I do also agree Engey Nimmadhi has excellent orchestration
But I think Ilaiyaraja wins in overall orchestration, gaveus so much variety, excellent blend of melody and harmony with classical Indian and western style orchestration blend, bringing new dimension to cine music ...
That being said, when you consider individual songs, Ilaiyaraja has hundreds that would count as contenders for best orchestration
We should also not leave out some very good orchestration by ARR in some songs (Thiruda Thiruda, KKKK)
We may have our individual likes and dislikes, definitely IR is leaps and bounds above anyone else in Orchestration quality and variety...

(1) kaNgaL iraNdum enRu ummaik kaNdu pEsumO. great interlude music; probably the earliest attempt in tfm at oblique counterpoints.
(2) nALai indha vELai pArththu Odi vA nilA - listen to the first interlude especially how the flute is used. this is one fabulous song in the entire history of tfm. great melody, beautiful orchestration, stirring lyrics and above all inspired singing. one could never ask for anything more!
(3) andhappuraththil oru magarANi avaL anbuk karaththil oru magarAjan - wow! ir had high regards for tms. all the songs he had for tms were sweet. it's a pity they thing work together more :-(

krk,
most of the songs you have listed-you seem to be raeding my mind!
esp orchestartion for potri paadadi penne-wow-a hardcore folk tune arranged in a grand WCM type orchestartion.in the first interlude, it starts as a single instrument which sounds like a villuppattu like violin instrument -this is joined by the violins-and how!-then it all slowly goes down back to the same instument which starts it.
second is yedhedho ennam song-classical IR orchestration stuff.the sense of yearning in that song!

regarding raakkaamma-from thalapathi-this song was recorded in bombay.apprently .the entire orchestra gave a standing ovation to IR after the recording was completed.they were all so thrilled with the song.(incidentally, the same happened after the recording of his symphony!)

BTW, did you guys know where I can get thalapathi CD ? It is one of the best recordings in TFM.
