Chellame Chellam - seems to be a fast version of Unnai Naanariven of Guna...ofcourse with slight changes.
Kadhal Vanoli - mid stanza with excellent Dharmavati rendition is similar to the middle stanza of Un Samayalaraiyil of DHILL.
But Chellame is amazing.... kudos to KR.

Peterpan, Murugan
Thanks. I dont want my name to be added in that page. Murugan had earlier sent me an email requesting the songs. So please remove it :))
Peterpan,
AS NagaS sais it is Sujatha, not sadhana sargam. Thanks for the review, enjoyed reading it.

NagaS, Cheithi, Thanks. I guess I was too engrossed in the song to notice that the singer was indeed Sujatha :)
I am still listening to the kAdhal vanoli song for the nth time. Excellent song! and the interludes are amazing!
Overall I found the lyrics to be of excellent quality! Hope KR insists on extracting such good stuff from the lyricists.
This is a welcome trend, no doubt!
Was that Bujjikutti, ponakutti stuff written by TAmarai??

NagaS, Cheithi, PeterPan,
I didn't have a chance to listen kAdhal vanoli, is it better than Un perai sonnale in Dum Dum Dum by tune?

Sundar,
Well, tastes can be subjective, but in my opinion, it's far superior to Dum Dum Dum.
I would rate this album even better than his Hindi debut, 'GrahaN'. He shows a lot of 'class' in his compositions. It's going to be one of his milestone albums, I am sure.

did anyone else feel that the refrain in chellamaai chellam was similar to "keh dhO naa.. you are my sonia" from a hrithik roshan hip shaker?

Karthik continues his groovy style which he successfully debuted in dum.dum.dum. Surely, this is a pleasant album. But, I am not sure long he can get away with this synth drum sounds and the stringed instrument (? once it is piano I think) ostinato in the background. Certain singing styles and arrangements similar to dum3 could have been avoided. The mix sounds a little noisy may be sound good on CD in a nice system. Should be commended for not bowing to the temptation of using loops for a 'different'new' sound.
Karthik is evolving a style, I think. Maybe he will do his dad proud one day.
Overall, this is a 'family' friendly album too in terms of lyrics. I liked the Madhu Balakrishnan song very much..but god why does he have to spoil it with his mispronounciation of 'vizhi' !!!

The songs are very catchy , but the greatest disadvantage for KR is all the songs make us to think of some song previously heard.
Nilave Nilave dangerously resembles kasu mele kasu vandhu from kadhala kadhala
Thathalikudhe resembles bumbaroo bumbaroo from mission kashmir
my pick of the album is chellamai chellam amazing song

PeterPan thanks for your nice review. I have been hearing the songs continuously. Though I cannot express my observations technically...here are my 2 cents...
In the recent past, have never heard such flowing melody..
Pillai Thamarai : The first interlude violin is just amazing, especially the transition back to the singer is classy. notice the bass guitar in the
back ground, it has its own pattern, very subtle and not blaring. Superb! " Nizhalai Irukka Marammaai Piranthom " at the end of the second charanam...wow. multi-layered orchestration very rare to find nowadays.
Thazham Poo - Has become my Fav IR song in recent times. The second interlude a blend of both male and female , the ending is just amazing, note the piano accompaniment. Though there are many IR songs as my fav, this song equals and joins the IR, janaki duets.Especially songs like "Indira Sundariye " forget the movie name.
Chellama Chellam: Certainly one of the best songs in the album. The first interlude is multilayered, with many instruments typical KR, but just hope that he had all natural instruments.
Kaathal vaanoli : Is the beginning of this song the same raaga as Raaman kathai kelungal? ..Bloody amazing. In my first hearing kind of upset it changed to a different feel. Little did I realize that the whole song is just soaked in melody. The charanams are seemless . The humming in the second interlude, brings takes to nascent Raaja.
Nilave Nilave : Stands second to Kasu Mela. Liked the Charanams better than the pallavi. Perfect Dappanguthu beats. I just hope it is picturized well. The second interlude and the ending has shades of thathom thagatheeme thom from Kaadhal kavithai.
Thathalikkuthe : He has just shown his versatility, by giving one more fantastic number.
This Album certainly beats all of his previous albums. More over very different from all of his other works. We just need more of Albums from Karthik Raaja.
Kudos Karthik Raaja. Keep it up.
Waiting for the original cassette or CD in the US.
Strong Must Buy.

I agree with amplitude that this is the best album of the year so far ... indication - till now there is no 'bad' reviews for this and nobody has yet complained about KR not using SPB, nobody said IR's voice is bad .... :-)
Ayyayyo, sothappittanoo ? Pochchch ... ;-)))))

A comparison between Eru Kangal from Kadal Samrajay, and Chellam from ALBUM ..
Both are great melodies ,but chellame chellam song is very natural ,simple ..
The former is like sleeping with a pillow and the later is like sleeping in maother's lap ..

NagaS - tks.... i think today i will be humming "Chellamaai Chellamaai.... en ammukuti, bommukkutti, punnaakutti.... tell me naah tell me naah"..... i liked the way "tell me naah" is said - cool.....
my wife said that "Thathallikudu" slightly resembles "adu meiudhu" song from "Kadal Pookal"....
- From: Mumbai Ramki (@ 203.197.24.195)

As s ome one pointed out "tell me " in chellam resembles "you are my sonia ".since it is a small piece ,it cannot be called a copy ...
Also Thathliakthey has a style of "bombaro " from Mission Kashmir ..
I feel the late pick up will be KADAL Vanoli ...i will say this one of sujatha's best 4 songs ..
