>>"Raghu - if you can pick up one song from scrath in 30 mins flat, then you are a true genius. :) And greater than SPB :)", ha ha
I did not say that, but it is your imagination,
>>"But the point is this...picking up a song already sung and recorded by someone else is a different thing. But in case of a playback singer,"<< That is EXACTLY, what I meant, I am no creator, I meant I can record a song in 30 mins, which has ALREADY been sung by a play back singer!!

If you practice a skill very hard & you are fond of that skill, anything is possible!!!, hence after 36 years it is very very LIKELY for SPB to have recorded upto 40,000 songs.:)

spb remains the greatest ever singer even now whether he hassung 40000 or 60000 songs a feat that cannot be acheived by any one now. Even after 36 years of continuous singing , people in tamil nadu wants to hear his voice only. only the music directors are not aware of this and are spoiling their own music by asking insignificant singers tosing. even at 55, sakka podu podrar namba O podu spb.

dint Kumar Sanu set a record of recording 20(?) songs in a day a few years back when he was at his Peak? I remember seeing it on TV programme.

Sarat,
Yes, he did set the record for singing for amongst the Donkeys, in Rajasthan, the donkeys of India were all present, while he was singing through his heavily blocked nose, they donkeys have awarded him as the best singer amongst their tribe, the award given was "Safari Donkey's association",
GOD, don't bring such useless idiot name, called Kumar sanu in this thread man.

Are u usually this intolerant towards people you dont like? Since we were talking about the physical limitations of recording many songs at a stretch I thought Id mention that fact about Sanu.
are you by any chance trying to tell me what I should post and what i should not? If you are, then I think you better stop trying.

Cool it dude, :)), no offence meant, I have nothing against Kumar Sanu, why would I, but in terms of being a singer, he is a DISGRACE to the indian music.

There is no doubt in the fact that SPB is th THE BEST ! the number of songs that he has sung donot matter at all ..even if he has sung only 1000 songs in all .. i would still rate him the best singer.. Who else has such variety ??
He has a voice comparable to ( and in some songs better than) Yesudas and Hariharan.. but he is way ahead of them in experssion ...
be it a sensous song with S Janaki ( another genius) or a melody songs ( Mohan/IR era ) or be it "Gaaana" type songs.. Or "Classical" ( sankarabaranam)... or normal plain jolly songs ..
( all his songs ) ...
he has also experimented a lot with his voice .. which no singer will presfer to do... like singing in ANjali.. " raathiri nerathu raakshasha " .. and "Mannil indha kaadhal indri" ...
He is simply great ! Isnt he ?

yes, i saw that some time back when the audio was released. since i visit music world often i will come to know first whenever a cassette is released.
It is nice to see that spb is again. but he is not singing in many films that was released after that.
still the music directors are blindly following arr and wasting their energies...

First u tell me this:
AVR;
Point taken, :)), no offence meant though!
This was regarding ur unsavoury remarks against Kumar Saanu.
Now again you this about Hariharan:
you mean the nasal Hariharan
Let me tell u a bit about Hariharan.
Hariharan, a Tamil speaking by birth, lived for a long time in Bombay where his talents were spotted by veteran (and classy) Hindi MD Jaidev, who gave him his first break in the TV serial AAROHI and then a song in the movie Gaman. Hariharan trained extensively in Hindustani and also a bit in Carnatic under his mother ALAMELU. He learned urdu for a long time and managed to perfect his diction, and became a full time singer with Jaidev. Jaidev's death was a loss to Hariharan...but not before he recorded 2-3 wonderful ghazal albums with Asha Bhonsle. One of them is Ab-shar-e-ghazal. The music of these ghazals is also done by Hariharan. Thereafter Hariharan has become a leading ghazal singer...later on he got to work AT A LONG STRETCH (I mean 3-4 albums EACH) with people like tabla maestro Zaakir Hussain, Pakistani sitarist Rais Khan, Sarangi exponent Ustaad Sultaan Khan and even sitarist Vilaayat Khan. In his recent album KAASH, he has sung some astounding variations in the song "maikade band...". Again, Naushad recently wrote and composed a set of 10 lovely ghazals and again he chose Hariharan for those! And those ghazals are a beauty!!
Recently in Pakistan, Mehndi Hassan openly lauded Hariharan's singing and he in fact invited Hariharan to sing in a few functions in honour to him (Mehndi Hassan).
Moreover his versatility is proved beyond doubt by his simultaneous and CONSISTENT success both in the South (that too with MDs like IR,ARR and others) and in the North. His few Hindi bhajans are supreme, and his name is taken in the leading pop singers of today too. For instance his collaboration with Leslie Lewis.
Moreover...I have been mesmerized by Hariharan's rendition of "krishna nee begane baaro" and other light Carnatic songs.
Sure SPB is somebody really out-of-this-world. but that doesn't mean everyone else sucks. Hope u get my point.

Yes, thanks 4 the info, Hariharan may be good ghazal singer, but he SHOULD stick to it, not enter into playback singing, I (Majority, of us) find the way he sings songs very irritating, no life nor expression in singing, he sings through his Nose, THIS IS A FACT, he also sings in false voice rather feminist voice at high octaves, he struggles at higher octaves, take
1) "Telephone mani" from Indian (Kamal, Manisha, Urmila)
2) "kadhaliyee" from taal(gorgeous creature Aiswariya rai) Hari struggles BIG time at higher octaves. Hariharan may be good ghazal singer, but he is BIG "ZERO", when it comes to playback singing & at Carnatic, his Carnatic attempt with "meetatha oru veenai" was PATHETIC, even though there were no "Sa re ga ma pa tha ne sa", hari has no shruthi control with certain songs!
Hari had said in many interviews ho much he wanted to be like SPB & KJY.
In terms of Voice & versatility wise no body is above SPB, the rest are several steps down.
Do you know the great Padmabhusan Dr.Bala Murali Krishna, he is a MASTER @ carnatic music, way above Dr.KJY, he once said balu (SPB) can sing ANY of my hardcore Carnatic songs, but I CAN NOT sing all Balu's songs, there you go, That's SPB.
BTW, can you drop me an email, if u got the time.
Cheers.

I (Majority, of us) find the way he sings songs very irritating
Raghu
IF that is the case then why have so many MD's insisted on using him for a such a long time
I dont think MD's can really afford to irritate their un-biased listeners like urself, can they?
and I really think you should listen to Kaash and the song Dard Ke rishte from Hazir before you say that Hariharan has no shruti control.

Sarat;
Hariharan is no more being used my MD like b4, more new young singers are being used more than Hari, like tippu, sonu, harish, Karthik,...etc.
If you insist I will listen to the songs u have mentioned, r they available on line, any where?
BTW, what do you say about Hariharan singing through his nose?, well it is a WELL known fact.
