Here is what i found::
Typical of Shankar, the director is not prepared to say much about the film at this point. However, it is known that the film will be very youthful, almost teeny-bop, in content, with the majority of the cast being in the 16-23 age group.
Shankar, apparently, has decided to cast all new faces in his film – and the younger the better.
In fact, a mention in various Tamil periodicals, and an accompanying advertisement to the effect that Shankar was looking for new faces, has created a headache of sorts for the producers. Curriculums vitae have been pouring in to the Surya Movies post box ever since the ad and the story ran in the vernacular press – and last heard from, the flood shows no signs of abating.
Curiously enough, the ad appears – thanks to emails and discussion groups – to have reached an audience abroad as well, with the result that newer batches of applications have US, British and suchlike stamps on them, which suits the producer and director fine since the film does incorporate a lot of NRI faces.
For Shankar, Boys will be a return to romance after Kadhalan, and to comedy after the Aishwarya Rai-Prashanth starrer Jeans. Though the film will feature fresh – and ergo, inexpensive – faces, Shankar maintains that the film will be typical of his style, which means lavish budgets, and expensive production values.

I recently saw Boys. These are my thoughts about the movie...
Yes, there are some scenes which are vulgar no doubt. But hey I have seen lots of other movies with more vulgar scenes than those. I havent seen too many people bothered about those scenes. I can give examples, but there are way too many like those for me to cite.
So, thinking about it, the reason there is such a big hue and cry about this movie is that, it is a Shankar movie and people went in with lots of expectations. People expect a clean, intelligent and fresh story from shankar. Shankar has made an intelligent and fresh story alright, but the movie is not clean.
But in Shankar's defense, I would like to point out that from the outset, he has been claiming that this movie is for BOYS. In every interview he has said that he is going to cater for teenagers and the youth. Also, the trailors shown all around did give hints about how the movie is going to be. Plus, there has been so many reviews in print and television and many have explicitly mentioned the vulgar scenes.
In spite of all this if someone goes to the movies with their family and still cribs about the vulgar scenes, they have no one but themseleves to blame.
One seemingly wrong move by Shankar is the censor certificate for this movie. But hey, Andhra Pradesh is part of India right, it is not a foreign country... If AP gives a U/A certificate, then it is good enough for me. But frankly, even if the movie was given an A certificate, do you think people would bother to notice that.
After all, if someone says that people will ignore all the trailors, reviews, comments about the movie and just look at the letter 'A' underneath the movie's name and decide whether or not to see the movie, it sounds absurd to me...
In all, the movie is for the youth, and only teenage boys should see the movie. It is time Indian movie makers stopped making masala movies with all the ingredients like songs, sentiment, sex, fights in one masala mix so that they can cater to all kinds of audience: rural, urban, youth, elders, 'thaymaargal'...
Shankar has a made a bold effort in making a film just for one category of audience: teenage boys. Trust me, todays teenagers have seen a lot of movies which have more vulgar scenes in them.

This is a news from NDTV site:
Tamil film Boys draws flak
Monday, September 8, 2003: (Chennai):
Director Shankar's much-hyped Tamil film Boys is in the eye of a storm. The film, which is about the life of four teenage boys, is packed with explicit scenes depicting eve teasing in public places.
This has led to huge protests outside theaters screening the film. Perturbed women's rights activists complain vulgarity has been used for commercial gains.
"The offence has been trivialised and it has been shown as a pastime. It only incites more people to do it," said Vasuki, General Secretary of the All India Women's Democratic Association.
Reality or vulgarity?
But it's not just the women's groups alone. Virtually every review has criticised the explicit use of vulgarity in the film. Sources at the Board for Film Certification at Chennai say even the trailer for the movie was cleared only after nearly seven scenes were rejected.
However, the Board at Hyderabad cleared the final film. And the film's producer says the film only depicts reality.
"This is all just media hype there is nothing so objectionable in the film," said A M Rathnam, Producer of the movie.
But the producer's worry though is not the protests alone. Despite the negative publicity for the film, which opened to full houses, the crowds are now reducing. A lesson perhaps that vulgarity alone cannot work wonders at the box office.

Boyz...something like combining the essence of 'Thulluvatho Ilamai' and many stories of a group of people coming to town, meeting Gangai Amaran or Deva sirs (I mean in movie stories) to get chance and at last be a success (cassette sales will be highlighted in at least one scene), such movies as Puthu Vasantham, Unnadthil Ennai Koduthen etc...
Anyhow, why the vulgarity...guy doing something nasty in the bus...yes i know that all or most men are the 'same'...but do not expect this in the most expected movie of the year after Kamal's 'Chandiyar'....Shankar...good job in Ale-ale song but...(sorry to say...)

You need unicode support. If you are just seeing small squares, do this:
go to control panel -> regional options, and enable 'indic' language setting. This will ask you for your win2k cd and will install indic language support. Then, you can view both thamizh and hindi in unicode.

Boys at full steam despite hiccups
Shankar's Boys hit the screens with expectations that touched the roof. What seemed to be a fairytale beginning seemed to go off the rails after a while though. For Tamil audiences were angered beyond measure by the verbal vulgarity and and obscene scenes that cast a shadow over its successful run. To add to its woes, Pudhiya Tamilagam's leader Dr. Krishnaswamy has raised his voice of disapproval against the lewdness associated with the movie. Finally Shankar on insistence of producer M.R.Ratnam made some cuts of the offending parts of the film. And it seems the Boys show has fed on the controversies and the new look has attracted more people to the shows. As the new tagline of the promotions goes, it will be a movie acceptable to all ages and all sections of the viewers. However Shankar has overcome the shortfalls, as there are no reports of any fall in collections from all the centers. And Boys seems to be ready for a long journey.

he he dinesh,
Even RK edited some scenes frm the movie BABA after its release. u know the fate of that movie. a movie shud be hit in the first week ,else its a flop. no matter watever they do to attract crowds. once negative reviews surface nobody can help that movie. Shankar can try to giv a hit in his nxt movie, but for Boys its a flopppppppppp
