Simply mind-blowing
November 20
Ajay Devgan and Vivek Oberoi can’t stop raving about the songs of Mani Ratnam’s Yuva. “A.R. Rahman and Mani Sir and dynamite together,” says Vivek on the sets of Indra Kumar and Ashok Thakeria’s Masti, and adds, “The six songs Rahman has recorded for the film are mind-blowing.”
Ajay Devgan, his co-star in Yuva and Masti, uses the same words to describe them. Incidentally, when the film was launched earlier this year, Mani Ratnam had decided not to have a single song in it.
Vivek also feels that Abhishek Bachchan’s is the best role and best performance in the film. “That guy’s career will take off in a big way after Yuva,” predicts Vivek.

Ferrari beats Pam on hot circuits
SYDNEY: Baywatch babes might be the hot property most men would like to be with, but German men find cars more enticing.
According to the Sydney Morning Herald , most men in Germany would rather spend a weekend with a flashy car than with a sexy female celebrity, revealed a survey carried out for the Men's Car magazine.
Eighty six per cent of German males chose a Ferrari Enzo over Pamela Anderson while 25 per cent of respondents chose Britney Spears over a Lamborghini Gallardo.
The Australian singer Kylie, however, scraped by with 53 per cent when put up against a Porsche Carrera GT.
On the contrary, German women prefer a weekend with a hot male celebrity to spinning around in a car. When asked, a whopping 75 per cent said they would love to be in songster Robbie William’s company rather than driving a Bentley.

Ravi K Chandran's comments
After reading the script we decided that each of the three characters had to be treated differently.
The film has three diferent stories, environments, colors, lensing, shooting style, different stock, everything. Arjun's (Siddharth) is very yuppy and has quite a modern style of framing. We used a lot of the tele lens. Whereas Inba Sekar's character (Madhavan) is very edgy. So we used a lot of handheld, wideangle, straight light, hard light, high contrast. In Michael's story (Suriya) the composition was more classic. A lot of greenery, serenity. One feels confident when he enters the frame. That's the kind of look we did for him.
A first for me was shooting the climax completly in 45 shutter angle. I used a lot of zooms and trolleys to give pace to the action. I enjoyed the sequences though everything was a little difficult because of the pace of shooting.

Choreography Brinda's comments
My brief was simple - the dances should be choreographed but not look like they are choreographed !
The song in the disco had a scene integrated into it and to choreograph a scene to music was a first for me. But to me the most challenging song was Inba Sekar and Sasi's 'Sandai Kozhi'. To get that quality of romance and intimacy between a husband and wife on screen was very new. The song was completely based on emotions and expessions and those expressions were not usual. The whole song was shot in one room and that's not easy but I really enjoyed doing that.
Working with a six actors on on film was a great buzz because they brought their different styles to the dance and brought a seperate energy to each of the songs.

Vikram Dharma's comments
Aayitha Ezhuthu has a new trend of action. There is no flying in the air, no artifice, nothing implausible about the fight sequences. That's what makes it very special. The situations in which we shot them were very dangerous... amidst speeding cars on the Napier bridge, on busy roads, on electric trains but the underlying quality was realism. The chases were real, energetic and emotional.
The whole action to me was that much more effective only because of the expressions and reactions of the artists.
The artists were so involved in their characters that the emotion they brought to the fight made it very effective I could only applaud the characters that were coming through.

Robert Taylor (Syn Sound) comments
Obviously because sync sound was a new thing for this unit and no one was used to working that way we were trying intially to train the people around to work with this. It was a very noisy but happy crew.
Mani's very creative. I went to places where i could see nothing at all on the sets and he would enter and I could see him doing something brilliant with the place. I was trying to give the sound more presence and feeling than normal as the director was improvising as he went along and changing his mind and ideas after every setup so I was also doing the same and experimenting as I went along.

Sabu Cyril (Art director) 's comments
This film was exciting for me because you have different economic backdrops in one film. Inba Sekar from the terrace of his houseyou can look down onto the street. Arjun's father is from a higher society, so that means a higher standard of living.
That had a minimalist design that you can see in the film. Michael is from a lower middle class background with a clean house, a Christian house. So we had to get a feel that was in between the other two and I think it has worked out. We've sort of given a color code to each one that is unconsiously seen in the film. I had the scope to try a range of things in the same film.
I call art direction more than creative work. I call it crisis management. What I can't forget about this film is that we've used two locations for most of the film. But one can't make out...At leeast 10 sets in one building and another 10 sets in another building. I think that was challenging for me.

Editor Sreekar Prasad's comments
It's special working with Mani Ratnam. The passion he has for making films rubs off on you. His characterization and very different way of interpreting a scene excites you.
Aayitha Ezhuthu is very exciting because it's got three different types of characters - the way it was shot and the way it was edited tried to complement the character. Say sometimes it's energetic and sometimes laidback depending on the character. In Inba Sekar's track that was mostly shot handheld there is a raw energy. I used more cuts. The cuts areunpredictable to build the character. All the shots were from the same axis and that was very interesting to work with. It was new. Arjun's is more today and modern so we used ramps. Michael's is very intense so there are lenghtier shots. I didn't cut often.
The character dictated the cutting for me.

AR Rehman
"The Leo coffee ad took in a big way in the south. I ended up doing many more till boredom set in. I felt there was much more to music, surely. Mani Ratnam then tempted me with Roja. Initially I was hesitant... while I was in the orchestras I'd seen the world of films upfront. Mani prodded me to try composing the entire score of his film and so, here i am. May be if there had been no Roja, I'd still be striking up tunes for tea and coffee."
The Ratnam - Rahman relationship has gone beyond the mechanical. He is my friend, my mentor. A composer expects trust and he has given that to me in abundance. He doesn't
tell me to do this or that, I know what he expects and I try to give it to him. Then he tells me if he likes it or not, so there is a two-way give and take.

Srinivas Caterers
"The experienc of working with the Aaitha Ezhuthu crew was an unforgettable one. Maniratnam's movies are always challenging for any unit and this time we had to handle a bigger crew and I think we did a great job. With artists who had a varying tastes when it comes to food, we had to take care of everyone's preferences and satisfy them. Especially, the locations where the movie was shot made it even difficult for our catering unit this time. With Cooum river nearby when they were shooting the Napier bridge scenes, we had to take extra care of Cooum's stinking smell not getting on to the unit when we served the food.
