All times in EST +10:30 for IST.
I have been listening to Tamil film music for so long and even though i'm 22, I can only relate to IR's music. I can appreciate the old MDs but it kind of ends there. I tried listening to others and it wears off on the 1st listen. Hindi music is even worse(except for the old ones).
So far Ilayaraja sir is the only one who can sustain quality and innovation. Why aren't there any other true composers out there for a population of more than 1 billion? It's really scary to think of a world without the music of IR. It's even scarier to think of all the bad songs/incidental music we are getting non-stop from all the present wannabees. Only God knows how long this will continue.
For a population of more than 1 billion it's really incredibly amazing that we don't see any other good composers. Will we?

Here's a question for the author. What would you do if IR died?
Would you:
A: Just listen to old IR music?
B: Try to listen to newer composers and learn to appreciate their talent?
C: Commit Suicide
D: Go into IR withdrawal?
E: Get a life?

do not judge every MD, based on ur preference.
I like Marilyn Manson, and Gorrilaz, u may like Norah Jones.....that doesnt mean that MM and Gorillaz is not as creative, or as good as ur fav. musician/MD/artist.
Please do not give bias comments.

My answer to Outsider's questions:
A: I would listen to old IR's music. For the wealth he has created, probably can last till even I die. :)
B: Tried that. It failed miserably, as far as indian musicians are concerned!
C: Answer as in A.
D: IR withdrawal? Already am. Am only listening to his music now and may be little bit of KR's too.
E: Already have one. Trying utmost best to live it musically. :)

And again, I am not denying how genius IR is.
It is a fact IR is genius and he is senior.

Paran, tandoori chicken became a hot fave in UK over 2 years ago. Credit goes to your beloved ARR :) I dont find UK going gaga over Bollywood now. You are as much ARR obsessed as Knip is KR-obsessed, if not worse.
Knip, IR-obsession is not unheard of. But KR obsession definitely is.
And try listening to Shankar Jaikishen, Salil Choudhary, Ravindran, Vidyasagar for a change, you wont regret it.

Why 1 in Billion - Because of his dedication. This is an ripple effect.IRs dedication to MUSIC has forced other MDs also to devote as much as possible to music. This increases the overall quality of MDs. Compare with NI, see the likes of BappiL, Nadeem(S), Anumalik - Music thavira ellam pannuvanga!

knip is 'pink' spelled backwards. Anyone who spells their pink name backwards must be obsessed with IR. One billion Indians are listening to IR music backwards and they all live in Nepal. They are climbing up mountains backwards, listening to IR music, and the mountains are PINK!!!

ARR did not make bollywood popular in the UK. ARR simply cashed in on the fad of bollywood that swept the UK last year.Now where is bollywood in the UK? Not a single mention of it anywhere. Nobody cares about it.
There are crap theatre productions starring thr soap opera rejects that are getting more ratings than Bombay Dreams.

IR is the greatest music director india has ever produced. no doubt in that. he kept his no 01 possition for more than 25 years. no one could ever reach him. Now IR is too old. Still he is in the market. Directors still approach him for touchy films. kadhaluku mariyathai, Heyram, Manaselam..Arr already shaking within 10 years after he reached IR's no 01 possition. his music is going downwords. The reason for the ARR's success is he has got good marketers. Adverticements etc etc.. Let him make 40 movies per year without reusing his own tunes or copy other's music... he cannot even last for 1 year. IR did that for almost 25 years. Now he is doing around 10 - 15 year like arr, but unlike arr he is not copying or reusing his own tunes.. he is still making new tunes. So i totaly agree with the auther IR is the bestest MD India ever produced. There is no one to compare with him.

What knip says is DEAD ON!!
Couldn't have said it better. It is a worrying trend. The most promising newcomers are KR & YSR who seem to have constant melody flow. I think KR will knock out everyone soon BIG TIME! I've heard his quality for the few films he did. My gosh!! Seems like he is busy with something. But he'll return to soon.
But no matter what Raja Rajaathan! He will rule. Especially when the time comes for him to stop composing.

Reply sensibily to knip. Whether its pink or knip, you have not replied to his concern or what he has said. Nor have you wrote anything to rebut his post.
If you have guts then rebut his post sensibily. Don't find the easy way out by writing crap.

Ok, I agree that Hindi music is worse, but everything else pink Knip wrote, I disagree with. If Kat-nip is happy with IR, let him listen to IR music. But saying that absolutely noone else can be satisfying or successful? No, definately not.

And I disagree with the him calling everyone else a "wannabee". Who wants to be like IR? Maybe some are, but some are not trying and don't care to be like IR.

wat u sed is entirely ur opinion....the same may not be applicable to evry music fan...as far as i can recollect there are 3 ppl in TFM who have their distinct styles...
1)MSV
2)IR
3)ARR
and they are the ones that have lasted long....each of them was a trendsetter....it just appears that u prefer IRs style of music much more than the other two...thats ur taste,ur preference....each person has his own likings....so all of em neednt necessarily agree with wat u believe
i feel that to say that there is no new talent is definitely not acceptable.....if u have ur mind rigid and lose interest the moment u see the MD then there can never be a replacement for IR,which is wat u have sed.......this is wat i can gather coz even songs from "paalum pazhamum","puthiya paravai","aayirathil oruvan" etc etc have failed to impress you

i never denied IR's credibility....he is damn good, but to say..he is the only one who is good...is wrong..that's all...

We are not saying IR is the only good MD. MSV, ARR, VS, Baradwaj, YSR, KR all are good. but i am only telling IR is the greatest of them all.
