Srik
It was Neethikku Dandanai (chinnanchiru KiliYe) SAC-Kalaignar wrote the dialogues.Song was picturised on Nizhalgal Ravi and Radhika.
Oru Brindavanam was a Vijaykanth-SAC movie ..
In another SAC movie the KJY song Oru Bommalttam nadakuthu romba pudhumayaga irukkuthu was a good one.The background music will have the music box-sound noramlly used for Bommalattam.
The songs in Poikal kudhirai were actually impressive but as Srik mentioned ...they just got drowned.
1.Vai vitti siricha -MV and Udhayanan
2.Pottu vecha ponnukkaga a nice poikal kudhirai song
3.An attempt at Pudhukavidhai tuning -Vaalis unnai ennaku pidithirukirathu (actaully MSV attempted that in Agni Satchi and Oru Indhiya Kanavu also). With KD no more MSV must have been craving for some good poetry!

These SAC films with sattams and veedus and vilayattus and iruttarais...all like quintuplets with similar first names! :-) But I am glad that I got the song right (appa, such relief:-))
Next line:
Idhu Yugam Yugamena Vazhum Vedham...

Guys, sorry for the gaffe. muthu is right, the song is sung by devanarayanan and not CSJ (I assumed that it was a mellowed down CSJ). I am not sure what film it is in.
I've put the CSJ version of the song here:

Srikanth
> also remember a movie produced by nagesh with anand babu as the hero, it had very good song in sudhadanyasi (8th thikum etivida pirandhadhu nayana osai - by spb) I saw spb singing this., however other songs were below par in this movie.
Yes, this is the song I enlisted yesterday. I guess Nagesh directed this movie.
OISG: Another good song in poikkaal kuthirai is "ellam therikirathu, enakku ellaam therikirathu". MSV's fascination for verse libre tuning started with Komal Swaminthan's adventure in oru indhiyakkanavu (en peyarE enakku maranthupOn intha ...), then continued in Agni Saatchi (kanaak kaaNum kaNkaL mella, sung by SPB/Saritha), continued in poikkal kuthirai (one must see this movie, valee freaked out as an actor).
I guess, neethikkuth thaNdanai - chinnanj chiru kiLiyE was the debut for Swarnalatha (confirm this).
Another movie that MSV tuned and went down the drain was 'nilavE malarE' - mannil vantha nilavE... (Nadhiya starrer).
Manthirap punnagai cinthidum mEnagai (Dowri kalyanam?) was another of that era.

bb- thanks for the 3 versions of this lovely song- each one is good. I liked that ‘Mellowed-down CSJ’ bit :-)
Devanarayanan- is he the same one who sang, with MS Rajeswari the lines ‘Vaazhiya senthamizh’ (which follows ‘Kottu murasae’ by KRR-MSR) in Or Iravu?
As S. Ramaswami has pointed out, the TMS version in ‘Thirumanam’ is my pick of the lot. Besides, ‘Mangiyathor nilavinilae’and ‘Ennamellam Oru Idathaye Naaduthe, kannirandum oru mugathayae theduthae’, TMS has another amazingly high pitched song in Thirumanam- it goes’ Inbam yaavumae thunbam aagumae’.
MSV did very few films in the 90s, and the songs weren’t worth remembering.
Some films that I recall are-
Silambu-1990. This was KR Vijaya’s home production, and starred KRV with Saratbabu.
Irumbu Pookal- 1991. The film had Prabhu, Karthik, Rekha & Pallavi in its cast. I think IR was supposed to do it initially, but later MSV completed the songs. It has a fantastic flute piece in its theme music.
Gnanapparavai-1991- the disastrous Sivaji-Manorama starrer. It had songs like ‘Neeyum naanuma aachi’-TMS-PS and ‘Aanavam kollathae’-TMS.
The JJ Govt’s anti-liquor propagating film- Neenga Nalla Irukkanaum-1992.
I think RS Shakthi’s Pthinippenn (stg. Roopini, Livingstone & Chitra) also came out sometime in the early 90s. It had the amazing ‘Ulagengum nam veedu’ by VJ.
Of course, MSV produced Senthamizh Paattu-1992 (Prabhu, Sukanya), and Senthamizh Selvan (Prashanth, Madhubala)-1993, both had music by MSV-IR
MSV-TKR teamed up again for Engirundho Vandhaan (Satyaraj, Roja)-1994.
Venkat: That Anandbabu-Jeevitha film you are referring to is Paartha Gnabagam Illayo-1985. Yes, directed by Nagesh.
Indha vanji magal oru Oodhappo was from Thambathiyam Oru Sangeetham, I think, the film that had the awesome ‘Naan thaayumanavan thandhaiyanavan’ by JC, and the title song by MSV himself.
As has been pointed out ‘Nee ninaithaal’ –Nilave Nee Saatchi- is a full duet by MSV with LRE.
Srikanth, that song ‘Sari enna yezhu swarangalum aasai manangalum sammandham sonnadhavo’(KJY-KSC) is from some Ramarajan-Nishanthi film (Many films starring this pair came in the wake of EOP- Railukku Neramachu, Ondru Engal Jaathiyae etc)- I think this film was Neram Nallarukku or something similar.
OISG- ‘Oru Bommalattam nadakkuthu’ is from Sivappu Malargal-1986.
Some of my favourites from ‘MSV in the 80s’:
1.Azhagiya thirumugam dharisanam thandhida vaaraayo-Brahmacharigal-SPB
2.Then ilangai mangai vennilavin thangai-Mohana Punnagai-SJ
3.Ragangal en jeevithangal-Thiruppam-PS
4.Orey baashayil siru poovum kaatrum-Erimalai-KJY-SJ
5.Soppanathil sindhu padithen-Theerppu-SPB-VJ
6.Oru osai indri mounamaaga-Pareetchaikku Neramachu-JC
7.Sugamaana Ragangale – Miruthanga Chakravarthi-VJ
8.Abinaya sundari-Miruthanga Chakravarthi-Sivachidambaram & VJ
9.Nilavu vandhu neeraada-Chiranjeevi-Rajkumar Bharathi-SJ
10.Maalai ponnana maalai-Nilave Malare-KJY-VJ
11.Kannan manam ennavo-Vasantha Ragam-SJ
12.Pookkalum vanna vanna-Kanne Kaniyamudhey-SPB-KSC
13.Thottilil thodangidum thalattu-Kanne Kaniamuthey-VJ
14.Sriraman sridevi-Dowri Kalyanam-SPB-VJ
15. Oruvan oruthi-Thambathigal-SPB-Bombay Jayashree.
There were some unreleased films too that had some great songs by MSV- ‘Mangai oru thingal’-Mun Oru Kaalathil- is a stunning solo by SPB, and ‘Ninaivugalin oorvalangal’ from +2 is a lovely Rajkumar Bharathi-VJ duet.

thus spake saravanan :)
mangai oru thinkgaL is a stunner. I wish I get back those songs. There was also one spb duet in the last made film of MGR (never released), I used to hear this song in IOKT-TS2.
Saravanan, do you know the title of the experimental LP by MSV that I elaborated yesterday?

Venkat:
I have encoded and put that "pongum poompunal" MSV instrumental piece that you wanted, here...
http://guppy.mpe.nus.edu.sg/~mpessk/music/holiday_mood.rm
That piece of music is titled "Holiday Mood".. it
really does bring cheer, doesn't it? Great flute work.

Guys,
Recollecting some of MSV's 80s or post-Annakkili period hits that have been left out so far:
-The most overlooked MSV soundtrack post-IR: "Kizhakkum Maerkkum Sandhikkindrana." It had,"oviyathai varaindhu vaithaen" a fantastic KJY rendition with lyrics similar to TR's improbability metaphors (OISG take note), "malaimael amarndhu" a fabulous duet between P.S. singing the Hindu aspects and a male chorus singing the Islamic aspects of religion, someone should send this to BJP folks; and a one-of-a-kind Kerala style mapla song by SPB, "thangachi ponnu thangachi ponnu thalai kuninjukammaa"
Other notables:
-selvamae, orae mugam paarkkiraen (from the ghastly Thamizh remake of a god-awful Hindi movie)
-Andha 7 Naatkal--almost all songs were great
-Oru Kai Oasai--especially, "Muthu thaaragai vaana veedhi vara"
-Simla Special, couple of good songs
-Neela MalargaL

"Chandiran pirai paarthen" from Kizhakkum Merkkum sandhikkindrana is a good tune with a slight persian touch. One of my favourites of MSV after IRs entry is "Valamaana bhoomiyil" from Ore Vaanam Ore Bhoomi. The scale in which this song is set is pretty close to IR's later "Ponvaanam Panneer thoovudhu" (Gowrimanohari/Patdeep). A slightly fast-paced(with good mirudhangam supoport) yet expressive tune well rendered by KJY. I dont remember how the charanam was but "ezhudhugiraal oru pudhukavidhai" had a wonderful Pallavi. It was by MV from Saranaalayam. A rare Mohan film with MSV as the MD.

After Ninaithaale inikkum, MSV's songs had become very heavy duty, drag stuff with loud music. I consider his 70-75 numbers very precious, post Ramamurthy.
Samples like
Malar enru en kangal, unnidathil ennai koduthen, ellorum paarkha en ulaasa vaazhkai, Ayiram - Avalukku enra oru manam
Sorgam pakkathil, Chella kiligalaam, Naan thananthanikaatu raaja,
Oraayiram naadagam, alayam agum - from Sumathi Yen sundari
Marandhe pochu roma naal achu -- Athaiyaa maamiyaa
Manamedai- Gnyaanaoli
Thedinen vandhadhu, Rajarajasri - OVUravu
Veru idam thedi povaalo- SNSM
Manmadhaleelai, Hello My dear, Naadam ennum-Manmadha leelai
Aadumadi thottil ini, Kannile enna undu , ennadi ulagam - AOT. I can go on......
Clearly, MSV couldnot measure up to these after 1978.
