Vijayabhaskar debuted in Thamizh with "Kalyaanamaam Kalyaanam" after his record breaking success in "Naagarahaavu" (Kannadigaas, please forgive me if I misspelled it)a Kannada movie which was later remade in Thamizh as "Raajanaagam".

He went on to work in lowbudget and B-movies and gave consistant hits that were mostly somber, melodic tunes. He used violins extensively, and also showed a penchant for veenai.

K.Balachandhar used his for a few movies like "Thapputh Thaalangal". Sridhar used him for a movie too, I can't think of it now. Here are some of his memorable tunes:
-samsaaram enbathu veenai
-anbu maegamae ingu oadi vaa
-thapputh thaalangal
-ada ennada pollaadha vaazhkkai

There are other tunes that fail my memory right now. If someone can shed light on Vijayabhaskar's uniqueness, I would appreciate it.

"Vaazhvil sowbaaggiyam" was composed by VKumar. VB's other hits are "Anbu Megame", "Samsaaram enbathu Veenai", "Mani vilakke","Ilamai Naattiya Saalai", "Yaarukku Yaar sontham ","Mogana Punnagai"

Enathu valakai padathiyal, is a great song from vijayabaskar. I feel vijaya baskar and Vkumar music has lot of similiarities.

Can anyone forget the songs of VB from 'Kaalangalil Aval Vasandham' all of this film's solos were by Vani Jayaram:

1. Manamagale Un Manavarai Kolam
2. Anbenum Sudaraal Erindhadhu Vilakku
3. Padum Vande Parthadhundaa

Another great number from 'Thappu Thaalangal':

4. Azhagaana Ila Mangai
- you've to listen to this song in a very quiet set up to actually appreciate it.

I have a doubt:
'Devan Vedhamum Kannan Geethaiyum' is from Raja Naagam whose MD is V Kumar. Am I right? Oru velai, kannadathula VB-yum, Thamizhla VK-yuma?

I was one of the guys who was surprised by Vijayabhaskar's talent when I accidentally saw a movie called Mayangugiral Oru Madhu. All songs are good in that movie. The songs are:

1. Samsaram Enbadhu Veenai
2. Sugam Aayiram En Ninaivile
3. Oru Puram Vedan Oru Puram Nagam
4. Varavendum Vazhkkaiyil Vasantham

All the songs that you mentioned are some great numbers! The songs mentioned in this thread tell us how talented this guy was. And how quickly we forget them.
Samsaram Enbadhu Veenai is one of my all-time favorites. As someone mentioned earlier,all along I thought it was VKumar's composition.

Thanks for the thread, Udhaya. May be we should have a permanent thread about "Unsung MDs", which will turn out to be a source of enlightenment.

Was "Soundaryamae Varuga Varuga", a Sridhar movie, MDed by Vijaya Bhaskar or MSV? It had some great tunes, very mellow but great. I can only remember one of the duets:

Another Sridhar movie "Yaaro ezhudhiya kavidhai" also had music by Vijayabhaskar. So, also the Mohan, Ambika *er "Kaatrukkenna vaeli".

yaro ezhuthiya kavidhai music was by Anandshankar -a bengali composer.just then sridhar had had a fight with IR.

there is ONE amazing Kannada song by VJ for VB .Actually the song is "happiest moment" from Bilee Hendthi. Its there on http://musicindiaonline in the Kannada section under the VJ collection (artistwise).

i've been looking at tfm links ..for people like vijayabhaskar, t g lingappa. started with g k venkatesh. an eyeopener because I'd thought they were all composers of basically kannada songs..which are an indelible part of my growing up years. to think that they crossed the language barrier to give happiness to people in telugu, tamil and malayalam too was wonderful to know.
