Gain for the producer as IR takes less money when compared to ARR..
Loss for Mani if he plans to release the movie all over india becoz IR doesnt have the name value as ARR have in North..
If it is a local movie produced only for Tamilnadu and the story is village oriented(village and mani never join !!) then i think IR is a best bet..

I don't think the music will be that good as IR will not be composing with a free mind for Mani any more...he would be too alert and may spoil!!

Whether Maniratnam gains or losses, if he works with Ilayaraja in his next project, doesn't matter to us. One thing is assured. We will get a very good quality music, which tamil film music industry is starving for a long time.

Ilayaraja is the worst music director today and combining with any quality directors is unthingable. His standard is well below what you would expect from a quality music director. If he continues to score music he will make every other music director looks a better one !!!. He should quit the film industry with dignity.

To revive IR, only MR can do it. Look at MR's work with ARR and KR. MR definitely has a music sense and he can now influene IR to do things that ARR dared and IR only did not care about earlier.

How can quality music be "churned out"?? Do you know the meaning of the words you use? "Churned" is like making "Moru" or "Maavu". It is the outcome of a repeated act or gesture. I think you need a dictionary...and also, why bother with a Hypothetical question?? Wouldn't the proof of a IR-MR venture be the venture itself?? A case of counting the chickens before the eggs are hatched...Maybe you have too much time on your hands to speculate on such invisible projects.

Last mega hit from MR is Dalapathi. IR scored music for this movie.....after that there wasn't such a hit. but there were diffrent kind of music in his movies.....In my opinion..a good director should alternate thier technicians..shouldn't stick with one. if they do they relaying on them too much... .Have anyone read the earlier interviews on MR......he was a devotee to IR....end of discussion

Roja made both MR and ARR popular all over india. If that is not a success what is? The fact that thiruda thiruda, dil se and iruvar failed was because of the story line. Still each of the listed movies boast of superb sound tracks. If anyone disagrees then it only shows there inherent bias.

To the moron ST,
Following are the lines from review of Raaja's
latest movie Azhagi. He received simillar applause
for Kaasi, Kutti, etc... Now you decide yourself
whether Raaja should quit TFM, or you should quit
this thread.
The genius in re-recording has done it again in "Azhagi". The music in the background, be it the flute or the percussion or the aptly played Bharatiyar's `Kannamma' song — Ilaiyaraja proves that he is unparalleled. The numbers are melodious no doubt, but the excellent re-recording surpasses everything else and embellishes the poignant scenes in `Azhagi'. Kudos to the maestro.

Why does every discussion become a boring, tired, and yawn inducing "IR- the great ARR - the great" moronic
argument?? Can't they both be just as good in what they do so well...bring melodious music to our ears?
Why do posters here insist on such topics that are falsely divisive and achieve no appreciative purpose?
Grow up, guys!!

In my opinion, MR does not deserve IR's quality music. Let him be content with the below-average score of ARR (except perhaps Roja) and his BGN(back-groung noise.
Let IR score for clssics like "Bharathi", "Kasi" and "Azaghi" than the trashes of MR.

Hey Ramu,
Thank you for showing me the weblink but I can't figure out what you are trying to prove here. On the same web site if you click on the top 10 songs you will not be able to find any songs from the film "Azhahi".

For the sympathizers of Ilayarajah you are not answering the question here. It is all about future and you are all talking about past by simply listing the MR&IR combinations. MR is taking the film in various languages simultaneously and he needs a music director well known in those languages. IR is certainly not a choice here unless IR himself be the producer. Please talk about facts by simply taking into account the record sales and how much the producers are willing to pay for the music directors. In IR case both of these factors are very low compared to majority of the other music directors currently scoring music for Tamil films.
For those of you who can't answer the question properly here is an other question for you
"Do you think Gavaskar should play for the Indian cricket team to raise the current standard of the Indian cricket team? !!!!! "

If IR and Mani works together(???), then definitely it is gain for Mani. For IR, it is one more hit. For Mani, it will definitely make him happy to be a hit director, after the international losses in Dil Se, Iruvar, Thiruda Thiruda etc. And he can overcome the jenix he is having in the B and C centers in Tamil Nadu. Moreover, he need not wait to get so called, indian songs from the lazy boy. He need not get sued by the Audio Companies as what it happened now for Kanna.. Mu.. . He can overcome all these crisis. Apart from all these, he can prove one more time, he is a good director, as befroe Thalapathi. After thalapathy, only Roja is a meha hit and Bombay is an average hit. All others are flops. So, I request Mani to come out of his ego and be in a good director list.
For IR, it will be another continuous hit like Kasi, Azhaki etc.

Guys here are totally outta minds, it seems... especially ROBIN, Cheenu...
Did Dil se, Thiruda Thiruda, Iruvar etc flop because of music ??? On the contrary the music of these films were great hits inspite of the film being a flop...If MR loses form and gives some crap films, why blame ARR ??? If IR had composed music for these films, wud they have run for packed houses years together.. ???
How can any MD help make movies hit apart from giving super hit music ??
IR enna lorryla aalungala ethittu vandhu koottam sekkaraaraa ????

really you have posted an intelligent reply! do you fell the films bharathy, kutti, kasi, azhagi have no quality?
there is one word in tamil 'pinatthal'. that describes your reply.
but, i accept that Dil se, Thiruda Thiruda, had good music and the failure of those movies have nothing to do with the music.
if mr and ir join, the gain is to us.

Hi It's me,
I never said in my posting because of ARR the movies are flop. I strongly belive the BGM of a movie is really important for a director to tell his point. MR has excellent BGM from IR in almost all the movies starting from Pagal Nilavu to Thalapathy. Where the BGM of the Bombay is nothing but noice. BGM of Roja is ok. But BGM of Iruvar, is just like 'satru naeraththirkku mangala isai' type. BGM of Dilse is sumar. MR is director who uses less dialogues and concentrates more on camera angle and expressions. In this type of scenes, BGM is highly required. For example, in Nayagan, thenpandi seemaiyilae -- tune is optly used in many scenes where MR wants make his punch. Hear the BGM of Thalapathy, Mouna Raagam, Agni Natchathiram etc. You will see the difference between IR and others. I never brings people in lorry for his movies, since he is not a politician or business man. He is musical wizard/genius. His much will fetch people to theatres. Not only MR, BR, R Sundarrajan, Ranagaran, RV Udayakumar, Mu.Kalanjium are benefited much our of his BGM. I beleive, I give the proper justification for your comments. Thanks.

ST,
I agree you point that ARR was having national market. At present ARR need a big hit. His last few movies in Tamil after Muthalvan are below average and even the cassete sales are mere less and he is now competiting Deva and SAR in casettle sales. Alli Arjuna/Star/Paarthalae Paravasam/Tenali gave very tough time to the audio shop owners as well as the listeners. In the year 2001, many other music directors gave big hits. Dum Dum Dum from KR, Minnale/Majnu from HJ, Dheena/MTV/Nandha by YSR, Choclet by Deva, POP by Bharani, ATV,PUVaasam by Vidayasagar, Friends/Bharathi/Kaasai/Azhaki by IR are having better songs and better sales the above mentioned ARR hits. In Hindi, his NAYAK is a super-dooper flop. I wish this year, let ARR can bring his old charms. Suni Gavaskar cannot play cricket now. But the genius like IR can give hits for ever. Kaasi, Azhaki, Friends proved it recently. The problem for IR, not hit in Hindi is, not in his music, in the language. ARR has good command in Hindi and in English. So he can communicate well and get the good lyrics. More over to shine in Bombay, you need some relegious background( sorry this is not hurting anybody's feeling, it is a fact). ARR has it. IR doesn't have it. Like this lot of reasons are there, why IR is not a hit in sales wise. Due to this you people cannot degrade a GENIUS.
