Its getting pretty stale at the DF, with TOO many threads discussing the same old stuff and fighting over the same issues a bazillion times :) ...too many folks gatecrashing in a flash of inspiration and bringing in threads that take 3,4 posts...so here's a little eulogy to all those blessed faithfuls who still keep the forum going :-)) and a hope that this DF goes from strength to strength in the days to come :)

Music4Ever, interesting list you've mentioned there, it set me off on a nostalgically digressive trail of events of yesteryears. There used to be a novel by Mack Bolan(forgot the title)released around 87-88 the main theme of which was Khomeini's death. Interestingly Khomeini passed away on 3/6/89 evening IST, just a few months after issuing the fatwa on Rushdie(7/1/89? Indira's killers were hung on that day too). Owing to Khomeini's death, the much awaited first episode of 'Jesse Owens' story, on DD Sunday nights got cancelled by a week. As such, DD unleashed such dismal fare on the helpless viewers.
Becker's bday is somewhere around Nov 17 67 right?
We missed Becker's authoritative defence of his 85 Wimbledon crown as ex-PM(for a day?) Jagjivan Ram passed away on 6/6/86.
During DD's deadly regime, cricket was more than a sport, rather a language for us hopeless kids. There used to be serial called Appu Aur Pappu which centers around a kid and his pet elephant which is nabbed by poachers and its subsequent rescue - we were discussing the final episode in class and a guy narrated in excitement, "..and then Raman Lamba punched Allan Border in the stomach, knocked off his gun and saved the elephant!"
Utterly clueless in understanding Hindi, we used to equate every TV character with some lookalike cricketer!
Lamba's death(23/2/98) was a sad day for me, I thought he could make a comeback. Good that the gentle guy didnt live to see his pal Ajay Sharma convicted in matchfixing.

More digression but worth a mention surely:
While crowds in India started disgracing the country with uncouth behavior in the late 90s, Chennai was always a class apart - Three weeks after RL's death, as Ind-Aus played out the 1st test, amidst the cutouts of Sachin, a lonely poster was spotted at the Chepauk stands, "Our heartfelt condolences to Raman Lamba's family".

other_side: Only your zodiac sign and not the date? :-) I thought you would be a Gemini, since you mentioned a lot of Gemini personalities in your posts.
Prabhu: You are amazing man - a wonderful raconteur. Becker is November 22 born - used to be our favorite tennis player those days. I just can't reach your level of remembering significant events and their dates. My only claim to possible fame (!) is this: You tell me someone's name, I shall try to tell his or her B'day. :-) As you would have seen already, I forget names very easily and I don't know still many many B'days. This forum has incredible people who are experts in so many areas. Good to be a part of it; I am a relatively new entrant here.
Raman Lamba (what is his DoB?) was a decent opener. I remember how he and our very own Cheeka bashed up the Aussies in a ODI in the mid to late eighties. Chennai crowd is classy, no doubt. They cheered even Akram and his team when they narrowly beat India (Sachin's breathtaking century amidst severe back pain).

Music4Ever/Saravanan, do you have exact release dates of movies? I am hunting for a long time on that over the net but not much success :-(, there were some sites like sivaji-prabhu.com, rajini, khusboo which gaves proper dates for these folks but I'd like to collect much more.
And we forgot one thing, my 2 biggest idols Richards and Lendl were both born on Mar 7, while the guy I hated the most, John McEnroe was Feb 16.
M4E: There are lot of stats jAmbavAns on the net..some years back I was discussing that Lamba-Cheeka match(7/9/86, Jaipur - Vinayaka Chathuthi day) with one guy over the net and when I mentioned RL hit 3 sixes(through countless revisions of Sportstar of course), he went further saying "The best was the one off Gilbert which flew over mid-off..better than the one of McDermott"
Yes, Chennai crowd is classy...I still remember the bottles and fruits flying over my head in the stands at Eden two tests later :-)

Leos write well. Geminis are jack of all trades. Virgos good critics. Capricornians hard workers and task masters. Aquarians explain things in detail. Scorpions are good friends but bad enemies. Cancerians are home birds.

Ok. This thread has virtually become a zodiac sign’s thread. So I thought I will write up something on that.
Lot of people doesn’t believe in astrology and they think these are just “Mooda nambikkai” thing. Even I thought so first, but when I started learning more about it. It hit me that it is a science and as usual our fore fathers have been far ahead in terms and science.
The Science of Astrology
Here is an except from Linda goodman’s sunsign book.
*****************************************
In 1953, Dr.Frank A.Brown of Northwestern University, made a startling discovery while he was experimenting with oysters. Science has always assumed that oysters open and close with the cycle of the tides of their birthplaces. But when Dr.Brown’s oysters were taken from the waters of Long Island (place in the east coast of USA) sound and placed in a tank of water in his Evanston Illinois(its is located in the middle of USA ) laboratory, a strange pattern emerged.
Their new home was kept at an even temperature, and the room was illuminated with a steady, dim light. For 2 weeks, the displaced oysters opened and closed their shells with the same rhythm as the tides of Long Island Sound-one thousand miles away. Then they suddenly snapped shut and reminded that way for several hours.Just as Dr.brown and his research team were about to consider the case of the homesick oysters closed, an odd thing happened. The shells opened wide once again. Exactly 4 hrs after the high tide in long island sound- at the precise movement when there would have been a high tide at Evanston Illinois, if it were on the sea coast- a new cycle began.
They were adapting their rhythm to the new geographical latitude and longitude. By what force?. By the moon of course. Dr.Brown had to conclude that the oyster’s energy cycles are ruled by the mysterious lunar signal that controls the tides.
Human energy and emotional cycles are governed by the same kind of planetary forces, in a much more complicated network of magnetic impulses from all the planets.Science recognizes the moon’s power to move great bodies of water.since man himself consists of 70% of water ,why should he be immune to such forceful planetary pulls?
Dr. Harold S.Burr emeritus professor of Anatomy at yale’s medical school, states that a complex magnetic field not only establishes a pattern of human brain at birth, but continues to regulate and control it through life.He further states that the human central nervous system is a superb receptor of electro magnetic energies, the finest is nature. The 10 million cells in our brains for a myriad of possible circuits through which electricity can channel.
Therefore, the mineral and chemical content and the electrical cells of our bodies and brains respond to the magnetic influence of every sunspot, eclipse and planetary movements. We are synchronized, like all other living organisms, metals and minerals, to the ceaseless ebb of flow of universe.
*****************************************
Remember that rajini movie guess it is agaiya gangai… where he goes crazy on the full moon day and he has to be chained. That's power of moon acting on him :).
If you are a nonvegeterian. you will find lot of new fish and pregnant crabs(senai nandu) during the full moon time. The fisherman go to see depending on the tides and they know the exact seasons, when they will get more fish.Shore dwellers follow the ebb and flow of tides.
Ocean tides are caused by the gravitational pull of the sun and moon. Because of the rotation of earth on its axis, two tides are present each day. One high tide occurs when we face the moon and a second when we are directly opposite. In addition, monthly and yearly tides exist.
It is been alrady proved that the opening of oyster shells, sex lives of rats, the metabolic fluctuations of fiddler crabs, snails, salamanders, earthworm, smelt as well as potatoes, carrots and seaweed are involved with tides and cycles.
If these small organisms are having fluctuations depending on the planetary movements and tides why not a bigger organism like us.By darwin theory the root for us all are the same right :)...
More later....................

I only discuss the raagams of songs
Because thaalams would take too long.
Furthermore, it'd be far too borin',
and to many it's also too foreign.
Just like, how many Tamizhans
think to name their daughters 'Lauren?'
