JJ if you are making fun of my review thats fine.
But please understand its from purely technical point of view. But if its sound acid to your ears well my review cant be blamed.
I did mention that musically and technically there is nothing wrong with this album
But individual perspective and expectations are so different 1 suit fit all cant be applied here.
Now if you have found some technical/musical flaws in this album say wrong chords, flat notes, abhavaswaram to other things please explain to us looking forward to that :)
'I dont like it' is different from 'worst album for everyone' you cant generalise its each invidiual rasanai.

I think your review is pretty much right on the money. My only point of difference would be switching Maya Maya rating and Baba Kichu Kichu
The reasons for that are
1) Tamil pronunciation is better in Maya Maya (but I dont mean to bash the pronunciation like others in this thread, since thats the general trend in tamil cinema - why blame a specific MD)
The real reason the Kichu Kichu song is where it is on rating, is because of SPB and the interludes. I dont think Maya Maya deserves to be lower than Kichu Kichu all IMHO.

UV : and by the way JJ has been doing that for days now. Better to ignore JJ and carry on with other important work that you may have.

I had written a review - definitely not biased but my views - and it was lost in the waves of postings. I repeat it here and, like I said, it is not to put down ARR but an honest voicing of my take on the songs :
'deivam indru' - a hybrid of Kothamangalam Subbu's villu pAttu and some other stuff. The percussion interludes seem to have a strong flavour of 'ottagatha kattikkO'. Poor song.
'dippu dippu' - What's up with this singer dude? He seems to be in excruciating pain when he screams 'B..A..B..A..'. The overall effect of the song is like something from a Bhangra Pop album. Poor again.
'kichu kichu' - The female voice seems to be drunk. Average lyrics. Rahman suffers from his eternal problem of being unable to maintain the mood of the song throughout. The song is reasonably melodious, though.
'ekam' - I gathered that ARR's aim was to provide some kind of secular touch to the song. The words in Sanskrit, an organ(?signifying a church-like atmosphere) in the background and finishing it off with an Islamic flavour. If that was the goal, I think it was fine.
'ivan vasam' - Run-of-the-mill song.
'mAya mAya' - Pathetic song. Like the words in the song - 'thAmarai ilai pOl ottamal iru'. No coherence at all. Seems like four different songs pieced together.
'nam nadai kandu' - Another poor song. The 'sakthi kodu sakthi kodu' portion is better suited to an ad jingle for, say, 'Boost'.
On the whole a very poor effort from ARR. Where is the brilliance of songs like 'andha arabikkadalOram' and the freshness of a song like 'chinna chinna Asai'?

raajyamaa imayamaa ... is a very godd song superbly sung by Jayachandran - why the people dont give any comment on this song. it is a high pitched song . how beautifully he presented the things in arohana and avarohan even in the high pitch. It is a rare combination from ARR & Jayachandran after "Oru Daivam thantha poove.." in "Kannathil Mutham Ittal"

Songs are okay, not excellent. More expection of BABA songs are one of the reason for the disappointment. All fans are expecting more from Rajni and AR combination. Both should have done little more importance for the songs, songs are really important for movie, may be all the songs fit well in the movie with this music, wait and see, There is no connection between female and male singer, looks like singing separetly, overall message in the songs are excellent. I ENJOYED TO HEAR DIPPU DIPPU, BAABAA AND THEN MAAYAA.

Nice review UV...your observations about the 80s feel of the "Kichu Kichu" song and the bass flicks reminds me of IR's songs. There was a song in Mannan (Kushbu and RK) with a similar rhythm. Do you think this was done deliberately ?
And we have the usual hooks that ARR used a lot in Muthu missing here !

Absolutely 200 percent right of cosmicians's view. It is not deliberate, AR should have concentrated little more for Rajni's BABA. It is diappointment for Rajni and AR fans.

Dear UV
I just read your review on Baba- I think it is a very balanced and comprehensive analysis of the songs. Just a couple of things that I would like to add about Sakthi Kodu.
Sakthi Kodu- This is a very atypical Rajini song, if you know what I mean. For starters, it is not sung by the all time Rajini favourite, SPB, and Karthik, I must say has done a wonderful job with the vocals.
Secondly, I seriously feel that the lyrics are really good- it is good to see that there is no Rajini's typical self-gratification that is evident in most of his other songs- esp the line where he says " Oru Vaarthai sonnale oor maara sakthi kodu" was particularly poignant.
Jst a query to some of Old Tamil Film and Carnatic music fans- I found the starting line "Thaayum" reminiscent of "Kaalayum Neeye, Maalayum Neeye", an old song in a Gemini Ganesan movie. Is "Kaalayum.." based on Kalyani as well?
Regards
Venkatraghavan

Fliflo,
Ur turning out to be a real hypocrite (a characteristic feature of all IR Fans here?)
"It appears that ARR can never fail with this kinda attitude. Bharadwaj's Pandavar Bhoomi songs were more hearble than this piece of junk."
"In addition to that a few guys make it a practice of visiting all other threads (especially of IRs) and make some total inappropriate/nonsense comments and hurt/agitate the moods of people there."
Ok so let me get this straight. U r entitled as a citizen of tis forum to say wat u want, repeat it as many times as possible (probably competing wit JJ for the newtfmpage Redundancy Award.) But when anyone enters the IR threads and voices their opinions, it is then hurting/agitating the mood of the people there? Ur hypocrisy is so profound, it can only come from an IRfan. So according to u, IR threads r meant only for worshipping and sacred grounds where no one having any thoughts other than the latest piece of **** from IR is the best ever! kind, can dare post. But u and morons like JJ r fully entitled to defecate the dump produced by ur vayatherichal in each and every ARR thread. U have the gall....
"Baba music review poi Baba news thread aayidichu..
Why so much defiant? That makes all of you to look like real slapstick comedians...Enjoy."
Well, tis thread has been used to share info and the latest info on the Baba movie, related actors, actresses and anything related. Tis has been happening from time immemorial. Some people have suggested to admin to close down the thread, but admin was not only kind enuf to let us continue but has also posted tis thread on the main newtfmpage home (even before the audio was released and all we were doing was sharing Baba news).
If u dont like this, I have some suggestions for u:
1. dont click on the links.
2. dont visit tis thread.
3. mind ur own blo*dy business.
4. go and continue ur puja in IR threads and read every link SPMlah posts about Kamal's movie tat will be out in another 4 years time.
We r enjoying ourselves very much, thank u. If tis increases ur Vayatherichal level, too Bad!
"It is so common to see words/phrases such as idiots/morons/gnanasoonyams etc..etc.."
Tis is the idea. When someone continuously makes PAs and spews venom at every poster at random, he or she becomes eligible to be called wit such words and phrases. U cant call a thirudan "thirudar" or a koliakaaran "kolaikaarar". If JJ calls me and my fellow ARR fans all sorts of names and phrases, then yes, we r entitled to call him back names and phrases (esp when they fit his personality like a glove)
"I would suggest you to elobrate this point overall to everybody here in this thread."
Yes, especially you.

Venkatraghavan,
great points.
"That is why the first time you listen to it, you feel that this is very bad...what you really mean is that I am not ready to listen to it now, so I dont like it. But the more you listen to it, you start getting accustomed to the red-herrings, the little twists and turns of the song and start liking it. So you see, the very people who berate his album at start, begin liking the music after multiple listenings."
I agree wit u wholeheartedly on tis as I have personally experienced this many times (even long b4 the days i started visiting tis forum and started identifying myself as an ARR or for tat matter anyone else' fan.)
Are Yaar,
"Okay WN..get hold of cassette. I think you will like it, for psychology says, you enjoy those things a lot that you don't expect much from it. By this time after reading all the postings, you might be having a sort of disappoinment..well baba will turn out to be a surprise for you."
Ur probably right. I had the same experience as u wit KM as well.
And thx for posting the ARRYG msg here.
raycas, it was nice reading ur posts after a long time.
All I can say abt tat JJ is tat I am secretly pleased he is an IR Fan. :)
JPM, I was waiting for u to post ur review. :) Thx for tat. It was pretty interesting.
UV, I will be reading thro ur review again when I get to listen to the songs. Who knows, I may learn a thing or two. :)
"I think the original group that has been visiting this thread for the past three months such as you, curses/magix, raja, C~P, myself and nandini (?? dont know why no posts from nandini oflate) should have a meaningful sharing of opinions about this album using whatever media (chat would be fine)."
Tat's good to hear, IK. u did not give me ur email. But Are Yaar/u/cp/raja/nandini/raycas et al r welcome to send me a mail so we cud organise something later. drop me a line if ur free.
Please continue to post any interesting news here like u promised.
