KVM is my favourite music director in TFM. I loved his classically oriented tunes - especially in the Telugu Shankarabharanam and Swathikiranam.May his soul rest in peace.

What a great MD he was!
He never compromised and composed music for lyrics and not the other way. It requires great talent and immence knowledge in music to come up with tunes for an already written lyrics. Film music composing is difficult and doing it in such a way and also succeeding in it is really great.
May his soul rest in peace.

Few days back there was a interview of SPB in Gemini TV(i think). The interviewers asked many questions to him. Slowly the questions turned towards Shankaraabharanam and KVM. SPB was flowering praises like anything, on him. While talking about KVM, SPB told - "...he always use to say, one should not compose songs in such a way that the chosen singer falls in difficulty. Cine song is not to show whether the MD has the ability to make songs in which singers are put in difficult situation. If you(MD) have to show your ability then first think about a fit singer who will not be in trouble for singing it. This he told when i was talking to pugazhaendhi(KVM's assistant) that, in a song, if this chord progress in kept, the richness will be more. And we both(pugazhaendhi and i) told this to KVM, for that he asked - do you know will the common man understand the word chord? Songs should be simple and should reach the common"
This motto, KVM has evidently carried out throughout his cine carrier.
Sir, we really miss you :-((

KVM's demise is a great loss to Tamil and Telugu films. His "Shankarabharanam" is a great master piece from the Maestro which attracted the attention of even non-telugu people towards his immortal music.
May his soul rest in piece.

Kupps: I quoted the number "1500 films" from the first report in the Hindu (news update). Their main edition had 600 as the correct number. Similarly, the first time I heard about K.V. Mahadevan hailing from Nagarcoil was also from the Hindu update. Can anyone confirm this? I always thought that K.V. Mahadevan had Telugu roots.
"oru naaL pOdhumaa..." is one of my all-time favourite songs, arguably the best film song composed by K.V. Mahadevan and sung by Kalamuralikrishna.

GV, KVM is a Tamil, no doubt. "The Hindu" people have shortened his career by atleast 10 years, his career in TELUGU started in the late 50's, but in Tamil, atleast 10 years earlier.

Long live the fame and name of the great Mama.
He is a gem among MDs. His magnanimity, simplicity, love for others will be cherished by one and all in tfm. His great hits which brought out the wealth of music like-
Thillana mohanambal songs - Classical Nadaswaram and dance music
Vannakili - South indian folk music
Many songs which depict his style of Light classical music
Western styled songs in old films
Rare ragas like Mohanakalyani in love songs like Amudhum thenum etharku etc., will keep his flag flying high.

K. Balachander also has his roots in Nagercoil.
