Ilayaraja made the world cinema to look into Sounth Indian Movies

Ilayaraja, the magnanimous name ,every other music lover of this century and in the future will know and remember.I inaugurate this thread to share our views about his great work to make the world to look into South Indian Movies.There was a time that people were interested to listen to hindi music, where everyone had a question infront whether we r going to acheive the quality of that kind.There came our isaignani to say "Here is the music that everyone loves" and delivered to the whole world.After his entry our culture(south indian) is exhibited to the whole world in an effecient manner which was lacked with all the other music directors.Manvaasani,intha mannin kaathal,intha mannin veeram,intha mannin pulamai endru ivan ivvulaghukku alli koduthathai neanivu kooruvom.When the whole world was talking about westernizing our music this Man made the western people to listen to our carnatic music.This great man helped lot of talented directors to deliver their thirst over our culture and made the movies look like evergreen.I personally request the admin to keep this thread open as a research thread to talk and share about that great man Ilayaraja who is making our south indian film industry to be proudly standing in front of the world.

  Awesomenga Bala. Raajavoda pugazha patthi pesanummua evalavu thread venumenaalum aarambikkalaamunga. Every time I read about the greatness of the Genius I get excited. Even if I read the same stuff again and again. Raaja gave new dimensions to the way film music was looked at. Raaja definitely did replace MSV. But IR has not alternative.
  
  Whenever i hear the songs from Alaigal Oivathillai, Priya, Metti, Vaidhehi Kaathirundhaal, Sakala Kala Vallavan etc. etc. (there are too many movies) I start appreciating him as if I'm hearing his music for the first time.

  IR is great.....that is why South India is great...
  
  I know that....the whole world is now looking at South India....(but how is that possible?.....people from the other side of globe can't see em right?....
  
  even from Delhi...we cannot see South India.....so..where are the looking?....
  
  IR is really great...he maed the whole world "flat"...so people from around the world can look at South India.....
  
  I tought IR is only a great musician...but now he has transformed...to become a Magician as well!!!!...

  I would not say that Illayraaja is famous all over the world ...But he is bit popular among the orchestras(Hungary ,RPO) and sone of the good composers like John Scott have recognised him ...
  But he definetly made Tamil peopel to look upon TFM when the scene was sligtly dominated by Hindi Film Music

  guys..see i will explain u clearly.See apart from hollywood movies Indian movies are known for their quality.Moreover we have the market all over the world.Particularly hindi movies got a very vast market next to Hollywood movies.its not possible to tell that the south indian moview are being watched to that extent.when the indian movies are compared with the hollywood movies everyone was mentioning the hindi movies.They never care about the south indian movies.They means the media,award commities, film festival organisations.U know onething Teleugu movies got national recognition when Viswanath worked with ilayaraaja.The samething happened when krishnavamshi worked with ilayraja.Even these 2 directors are great directors, they were able to deliver such a great quality as the product was archestrated by ilayraja.Movies are Saagara Sangamam, Swathi muthyam, Swarna Kamalam By K.Viswanath.Anthapuram by krishna vamshi.Same experience for BarathiRaaja's "Muthal Mriyaadhai" , K.Balachander's "Sindhu Bairavi", Barathan's "Devar Magan", Kamal Haasan's "MahaNadhi" && "Gunaa" BaluMahendra's "Moondram Pirai" && "Marupadiyum", Maniratnam's "Naayagan","Thalapathi" Priyadhrashan's "ChiraiChaalai".These are all very few movies that got the world recognition.Again the world recognition in the sense they create the sensation in national awards and in the film festivals all over the world.Only thing unique in all these movies apart from the great men worked on that is Ilayaraja's music.That was accepted by lot of people right from the media till the viewers.That itself made the south indian movie technicians to be proud.

  Not to be impolite... my belief is, national recognition and international recognition are different. Participation in a film festival abroad happens because of National recognition. A movie gets selected and sent outside. 'Lagaan' would be a wise choice if you want to talk about international recognition.

  What's your criterion here? Amount grossed? Number of Shows? Where's the European film market? Where's the Chinese film market? I think you are talking about the number of films made per year!

  hindi, tamil, malayalam, kannada movies hall mark is good screenplay even though stories are variations, there is excellent comedy track, subtle acting by stellar actors, bhavana, classical dances, even before Ilayaraaja came, Malayalam and Tamil movies were simply amazing for the storyline, screenplay, acting, comedy, songs (forget the background score uhhh!) Ilayaraaja' hallmark is he could give rural stories such class and style that people of TN went bakc to enjoy rustic life through movies!!! Hindi is also good, but today' actresses have brought such degrading sex appeal that the focus on good stories is lost, otherwise all of India storytelling thru films have few parallel worldwide because of the great blending of various attributes - comedy track, songs, fights, etc... that outside India it is thought impossible and inappropriate.

  ever since i was born in sri lanka (28 years ago )i became a Dr.ilaiyarajah's fan.I do know about Dr's music awareness as Dr. mention one time, music is his life.not a job i love him even when i write thie message i am listing Dr's songs only .Dr.ilaiyarajah is my life.his music is my blood.

  Preposterous guys talk non-sense about IR or any other personality. IR is simply great given his place of birth and other factors. He is GENIUS, that's all. Fools like Dinesh say his hindhi friends told IR music is S___S and ARR music is good. Shame on us. 'ORU NAAL PODHUMA' , 'ISAI THAMIZH NEE SAIDHA' from THIRUVILAIYADAL , 'CHINNA KANNAN AZHAIKIRAAN' will be boring to hindhi guys, why we want others to appreciate IR . he is a tamil and he needs to make music for the tamils. So useless threads are unwanted. It reflects very bad on tamils.

  there are two Good points ...
  
  1.There is a world outside IR ..If one is fan of music ,then he needs to look at it ...I feel that Raaja fans are confined to raajas music( i can never prove this ,but just subjective feeling seeing my fellow raaja fans) ..Of course Raaja has delivered magic for the past 20 years ,but does not mean abusing ARR ..
  
  2.ARR has definetly gone beyond IR when it comes to popularilty and cassete sales ,but i cannot say the same with respect to quality and that is subjective....
  
  SO IR fans ,please respect ARR ....It is like ditching our own composer ..Iam confining this to IR fan as iam also a fan of IR's magic ..!!

  Am wondering why Manirathnam is not using IR these days as IR has given superb rerecordings in all his movies like MounaRaagam, Thalapathi, Idayathai thirudathe???
