Guys,
I was able to have a tete-de-tete with IR at prasad studios. My cousin plays tabla for him.I sneaked with him to the studio and had a 30 mins talk with IR.The topics ranged from GURU to the current trends.
A mention of GURU really brightnend his eyes and IR told me that they did'nt market it alright.
They spent 25 days for re-recording and it was a herculean task.
I also brought in TFM to his knowledge and he seems to be aware of this forum ,"Kelvi pattuiruken".
I told him about the BGM project and following was his reaction in tamil ."Pannalam.Aanal orginal tracks thedi pedikunum".Nalla project".I also asked opinions with sadanand(music director sudarshan's son) ,who is IR's lead guitarist for 20 years. He liked the idea but was wary of copyright problems.
I just came back from chennai after a 2 month vacation.
The BGM project is really exciting. We have to contact individual production companies for the soundtracks.I gave it a shot with raj kamal but could'nt get hold of Kamal.Somebody will have to do the leg work at chennai .we can really pull it off.

Balaji,
Congrats on a 'well spent' vacation in Madras. Dr. Balamuralikrishna mentioned in a Doordarshan interview (and sang a sample of it) that he has composed a 3 note song. Of course, doesn't prove a thing. Irrespective of who else has done it or not, irrespective of whether IR himself did it or not (it being composing a 3 note song), IR is truly a gifted genius.

Please put a direct link to the photos page. I
must say your front page is not too easy to wade
through. Also it is quite slow.

Three points :
* The sym-phony looks dead before arrival. Now that we have heard it from the horse's mouth, the sym-phony will never be heard. 'Lost interest' it seems - my foot !

Excellent PG.
Bold and well said.
I feel the same. You have expressed the feelings of many wounded IR fans like me.
Hope IR show some good music instead of churning out some insipid music as he has done lately (KC an exception)

Nalla MAatuku Oru Soodu ...
All along his music compensated for his ego and foul mouth. As "PG" said, enough is enough...
Either do something or take a graceful exit like star performers.. quit while on top (!!!!)
The symphony "answer" just shook me.
I would hate to see him fade like a TMS or LR Eswari... Ninaikevae Bayama Irruku ...

Looks like you guys are in great "konthalippu".I can understand that.Me too had that kind of feeling earlier.
But who knows what kind of problems he has.
Regarding quitting while on Top--I think IR has already started doing that.(example he refused to be MD for kamal's movie)
Basically what I heard from there(madras) that IR is not ready to compromise like some MD's.If thers is a hit tune in western or hindi music--make a xerox out of it and give it to the people.
Don't come on me for saying this.I am not trying to find an excuse for IR's downfall. This is what happening (certain extent) in the tamil film industry.Although there are exceptions like S.A.Rajkumar who has churned out some melodies in his recent films.
I don't think there is anything wrong in having "karvum" as he really has a talent.Everybody has sort of some ego in this world. As long as it doesn't affect others i don't think we should bother about it.

RB,
Exactly which western song is Minsaarap poovEy, Sowkkiyamaa, maargaZhi thingaL allavaa, suththi suththi vandheeha, etc (a series of hits from ARR) copied from? ARR does not produce a xerox copy of a song because a director/producer wants it. Does some of his tunes, beat patterns, patches sound similar to existing western/Indian hits. Maybe yes. But definitely he has his individual contribution and stamp on the song. RDB also used to do the same. And both of them have also produced a good number of good NON-COPY songs. IR absolutely needs to come up with musical answers. Whether he decides to that, or gracefully retire, or pass 'sour grapes' comments is his call. Judging him for what he does is my call (as far as my personal opinion/action goes).

pg and cram: I agree. That answer on teh symphony definitely was disappointing.
rajaG: Your point is well taken, but a footnote: "suthi suthi vandeeha" is a recycle of "pachai kiligal" (Indian).

I really respect your views and understand the pain you have taken in resurrecting IR's fallen fame. Having said that, please don't blame the industry for IR's falls. The example u site hardly speaks of ur knowledge. SAR just churns out old IR's tune with a new tempo (whatever that means??..)
If IR really produces good tunes, people are ready to welcome them. I know you are now in the 7th heaven having met the great MD. However please don't overlook his pitfalls. He may not accept films because of any good reason, but for the films he has accepted he can produce excellent music.
Remember the old days, when he used to give wonderful music to inane films like 'Gramathu Adhiyyam '(worse than a art film), 'Anbe Sangeetha'(dhravai is the best remark) and the list is endless.
Not giving good music is purely his fault, not anyone else's. Taking responsibility for failure is the mark of a good artist.
I would have been happy if u had taken a moment to express the view of his countless fans that they are diappointed with his current fans.
You don't need big banner films to give good music, IR can give good music even to inconsequential films. No producer has the guts or say no, if he insists on his music.
Sorry if this 'Kondhalippu' has crossed limits

I am pretty stunned at the response of IR on his symphony.I accept the fact that there was copyright problems and he wanted to release it as quick as possible and had to undergo many a hurdles with international recording companies.
But the bottomline is that he is reponsible for the release and he just can'nt be nonchanlant about it.He owes it us as he went public with his symphony.Hope his sons can strike a deal.

RB:
I don't know what you mean by non-compromising. IR does music for movies like thodarum, thalaimuRai, rAjasthan and he scores rotten (no other word) music for these films. And he refuses Hey Ram bcos it is anti-Gandhi. He refuses (according to rumours) iruvar bcos Mani Rathnam introduced ARR. This is non-compromising ? What logic is this ? If I were r.k.selvamaNi (director of rAjasthan) I shall go to dEvA bcos dEvA even if he copies, shall give me at least two listenable tunes. And best of all if I don't like the tunes I can say no way, give me better tunes; not accept whatever junk that rAjA produces (and later claim that he treats each film the same and gives 100% to each film - BS).
I have all these films I mentioned on CD (original like Chandrasekaran recommended) and they ARE UNLISTENABLE.
I have no doubt about rAjA's talents but his attitude stinks.
