Aditya,
Thanks very much. I would've liked to use natural instruments but didn't get the opportunity. Just used keyboards and a couple sampled instruments. The tunes form a background to a movie (called arrangedmarriage.com) that is yet to have a commercial opening.

Hi Suresh Shrinivas:
Didn't u play violin in ur compositions? From the photograph in your mp3 page I thought u are a violin player. I liked the long distance romance. It's nice interpretation.

Aditya

Was listening to this album called "Sampath's Pops Pops" on sampath.com
Well...its a mediocre album, to say the least, but atleast he is not a professional planning to do this time and again.
But if a guy like him could cut an album during a month's vacation in India, collaborating with people like Srinivas and Mahanadi Shobana, why not our own Srikant, Rjay, Sridhar and Co.?
Maybe you all should atleast get in touch with this Sampath guy for his contacts!
:)
PS: There is a song called "SSLC" on this POPS POPS album. Listen to it once and you'll go Aaathaaaaaa...!!!!
Just wondering...

Srikant...For me, "The Sky" sounded jazzy when I wanted it to and Indian classical when I wanted it to. And thats as stupid as I can sound! :)
But I liked the nuances of the piece...esp. the piano fillings[definitely a jazz term], though the guitar of Ryan Manners did sound subdued. But then again, maybe thats a jazz thing.
Tell me more about this Studio 1234...what kind of stuff do you have up there?

Srikanth:
Good Job! I would rename it as "Sa(e)Xy"...husky Sa(e)Xy...true in terms of Jazzy...counters are very catchy...It sounded as though we are shopping in Hudsons ( some American luxurious shopping mall ) with a girl friend ( romantic shopping:-))...
More Later...

For classically trained people...does it sound like Nata Raaga based composition:-)
There's a thyagaraja Ghana Raga Pancharatna krithi "JagadanandaKaaraka" - he chose naata raaga for his compositions...Jagadanandakaraka - means one who make everyone happy:-) I wonder is this raga which keeps everyone in the world keeps happy...so many people have made wonders on this one...

srikanth: you need to drastically change your style. except for the bharathiyAr songs your songs of late seems to sound repetitious. having a style is good. but being stuck with it is bad. you need to have at least a dozen of styles to sound fresh always. i would like to hear something like a flute theme, kAdhal pAdhaiyil or yamuna from you. this is my honest opinion. please take it in stride.

Arul, Thanks however
serisouly in this song i have adopted a new format , imho:
1. I have added lots of harmony in the guitar counters, which i have not does before.
2. Have done a scale change it starts in D then moves to F with a clear scale shift.
3. used a natural instruments,
4. different chord comps - not the regular 3 noted chords.
5. Drums are really clear. -- you can hear a clear speration and it not mechanical.
6. bass is more bouncy. ..
My std instruments like flute, strings, bells are not found in this score, also i used some efx which is very limited in this tracks.
I fell Instead of general statement if u clarify more specifics - which is repetivite in this score , it would help.
Basicaly your ears are looking for specific kind of feel..:) there are some of my friends, who complains i am always compsing a indian flutetheme or strings section parts, so i did this.:)

Arul:
i differ...this style seems blues/jazzy and i feel it's not tried before by srikanth. Srikanth's most of the scores till before Sky sounded classical ( indian/western ), folk and Rock flavoured...look at the arrangements in SKY how they are laid out and specially choice of instruments.
If you meant style as the way each phrase is composed/played then yes that has mark of srikanth. Which is natural:-))

srikanth, and AdityA: thanks for explaining. i listened to the piece once (with a grueling headache, comes automatically with cold :-) ) and may be i didn't do justice. my main (rather only) complaint is to the way you make your main melody, the way you combine the long notes and the short ones, the phrases, and the sangathis (AdityA considers that to be positive, but to me it sounds repetitious :-( ). and just now i noticed, your drums programming, i mean the rolls "sound" (i dont have the energy to pay close attention to song now) similar to your other songs too (i think, the very early ones like feeling, find me or something like that). sax is your favorite; it's, imo, more favorite than flute or strings. your other friends are wrong :-).
yes. i am looking for some special kind of feel. :-) here is something i wanted to write about for a long time now. the third track in Nothing But Wind, i forgot it's name, is imo a very good song for a meditative atmosphere. the repetitive bass, rhythm section, enriched by the hauting flute (repeated by the not-so-haunting some factory made synth sound); it's beautiful. it's a perfect background music for a candle-light dinner too :-). i am now collect similar such comps. there are some hauting peruvian flute themes. there are some new age stuff like that in the market. has any one of the amatuer composers here attempted anything like that? i am searching for something really simple comp which is at the same time soothing, meditative. anyways, ...
and, btw, you cannot expect to satisfy everybody:-) sometimes, i will be the blacksheep, sometimes someone else. take it easy. i will give your comp a serious listening over the weekend. take care.
(i have been writing to you about this for a long time. what happened to your comp. 'emotions'?)
