Hi! We've made a major addition to newtfmpage, and that is a big song bank. Dhool features thousands of songs for your listening pleasure. This site is a part of the newtfmpage.com - swara.com group. Together with newtfmpage, we wish to make this the best place to listen to tamil film songs online and know about tamil film music. Our collection includes old, new, famous, rare and unheard of songs. We are still fine tuning and fixing the database errors, so please bear with us. We value your feedback, and this will help us build the site better. Please post your comments below or mail to comments@newtfmpage.com.
This work was done by us (bb and RR) with MS and swara.com ravi.

Guys..I am thinking of having a week of celebrating SPB's rare hits. These songs are those in which SPB's voice is the only dominant factor and the allied orchestration is just an excuse to fill the song. All those songs which SPB has filled with his inimitable sangathis. Ok with you all ?

2 songs come to my mind immly - "Konji KOnji" from Veera and "Mun Paniyaa" from Nandha. Both these songs would have been a hit even if SPB had sung it alone. But may be it would'nt fit into your request "and the allied orchestration is just an excuse", as they were equally good like SPB's voice.

MS: excellent idea. some of SPB's such solos have already been featured (kanaa kaanum etc..).
How about the solo with no orchestration - "Theertha karaiyinile" from VNS to start with?

MS: Why don't you select one from each decade beginning with the fifties? The older generation can enjoy too, unless you want to widen the generation gap!!! Looks like most of the participants are in late 20s or early 30s !
No 'sandai'. Just a suggestion!

Song of the Day: "pon enbadho poo enbadho"
http://www.dhool.com/sotd/pon_enp.rm
*********
I do not have any details of this song. This song was given to me by RR (admin of newtfmpage). I have long back heard this song and it certainly ranks as one of the songs where SPB says : "come, fall in love with my voice" :-) The starting aalaap and all the sangathis that SPB has given in this song are just simply great.
The songs to follow, this week, will have a similar mood as a humble effort to acknowledge the genius that SPB is.

- A very rare SPB song to get into the weekend. I discovered this song for the first time today, and have been playing it again and again for a while now. SPB has sung this well, check out the starting which gives a feeling of a PBS/Ghantasala song. The song has good sitar interludes too.
- I have no idea about the music director (sounds like xxx-nnu pOttaa adi vizhum :) ), or the movie. I could not find any discussion on this song at all at newtfmpage or elsewhere! I guess this is a non-IR song of late 70s.

Aha, Saravanan to the rescue again. He has written on this song in the "memories of another day" thread a few days back:

Desparate to give some trivial information:
The Script of Annaparavai was done by one Mr.Mahadevan who is the father of Indian tennis upcoming(for the last 5-10 years) Manoj Mahadevan. When I met Mr.Mahadevan he had completely moved out films and was with Park-Davis India at Chennai.Mahadevan was all praise for Latha as an actress..(Single dubbing loopla 10 pakkam dialogueI paarkama pesuvanga Sir.)The movie got the state govt award also.
The movie was a well made one, despite the awful presence of dead-weights like Sudhakar,Radhika.
Pity that Ramanjuam could be heard only in the MGR-Maraivu soga padal (approved by AIADMK) in 1987.

JM: All SOTD tracks are real media files. You need to download RealPlayer.
MS: ennaachu, adutha SPB song enga?
I have 'mangiyadhor nilavinile', a Bharathiyar song.
I know CSJ version of this song featured here earlier, but I like SPB's version. Just too good.
I can give the song if it's not available here.

Song of the Day: "ponnai naan paarththadhillai" from "KaNNamoochi" (1978) MD - V.Kumar
http://www.newtfmpage.com/cgi-bin/stream.pl?url=http://www.dhool.com/sotd/ponnai_naan.mp3
Another obscure number from SPB. A very nice song very soulfully rendered by SPB. As observed by saravanan the same sandham was used in three songs:
(1) unnidam mayangugiren
(2) kaNgaLaal naan varaindhen
(3) ponnai naan paarththadhillai
One can easily any of these songs in the tune of other. Saravanan mentioned this when the (1) was SOTD or else I would have never known the info :-)
Quoting Saravanan:
"Kumar repeated shades of the same tune in 'Ponnai naan paarthathillai'-SPB-Kannamoochi-1978 and 'Kangalaal naan varaindhen'-KJY,PS-Mangala Nayagi-1980"
"While Nadagame ulagam had that enchanting Sapthaswaram punnagayil kanden (SPB-VJ), Mangala nayaki had the memorable KJY-PS duet Kangalaal naan varaindhen. (This song by V Kumar reminds one of VK's Unnidam Mayangukiren (Then sindhuthe vaanam) and Ponnai naan paarthathillai (Kannamoochi)- wonder why VK made 3 songs on the same lines!)"

Here are my Theen Thiraviyams of SPB
Ninaithu paarkiren yen nenjam inikkinradhu - a rare MSV-SPB gem from a nondescript film has the unbelievable yodelling "Remember...." -can I ever forget it?
Vandhaal Mahalakshmiye - a classical Kalyani tune which becomes enjoyably light weight due to SPB's nagaasu effect
Nalladhor veenai seidhe - from Varumaiyin niram sigappu - set to Thilang , is infused with SPB's emotion choked voice
