Why does some songs from Dum (Tamil) sound very similar to songs from Idiot (Telugu)????
Why would an indian music director never admit, that he is covering songs from others?
In Dum the MD is Deva, but in Idiot the songs are written by Chakri!
I can remember, that there was huge uproar when Truth Hurts sampled Lata Mageshkars voice, the Md from the original Bappi Lahiri even went to court!
He said it would have been okay, if they just mentioned, who composed the sample!
But in the indian Film soundtrack scene the Md are using tunes from all over the world! If you listen to the tamil soundtracks from the last year, I'm pretty sure that in every second or third album , you will find a song which music is covered, without even mentioning the original, you could at least write inspired by...
They are sampling the music from arabian hits (chandralekha (Malayalam) by vidyasagar), europop music(dhool), hip hop(5 Stars)
Why is this so????
Are all indian MD not creative enough? Or do you have to be a "thief" to become a succesful MD?

DUM is the remake of IDOT.So DEVA copied from ideot. Other wise he may have copied the tunes from some recent tamil movies. It is good he copied the tunes from the telugu movie that is new for us.

To me ARR is the best copy cat. He goes far away from the indian music to get new tunes from michael jackson, Yanni, madonna etc..Some how he could make hit in the past.
People said that is new trend.
Later all the new MD's HJ,VS,YSR followed the same thing.
Then people said they are following ARR's trend and nothing new.
So infact ARR's trend is copying from the western and mixing with indian music.
But finally the trendsetter ARR gave very good flops udaya, parasuram,PP,KV,KM etc.. At the same time the trend follower gave the hits MINNALE, DHEENA, SAMY, BALA,APRIL MADATHIL, KADAL KONDEIN etc..
Again people said the same thing .Nothing new just ARR's trend.
Any way with his own trend ARR sucks and other striks.
What a great trend ARR made.
hahahahhaha.

u guys need to understand that there are other Musicians who use the same samples used by ARR...
For instance, listen to the Ace of Base, ALL THAT SHE WANTS,,, it contains tunes from Rahman's INDIAN.... does this mean that "Ace of Base" copied ARR.... no..
Its just them using the sample samples used by ARR..
To be honest, this seems to be the reality of music people.... just go with it..

"inspired "...i guess that's the word being used
not "copied"...
art requires INSPIRATION....some how some where..
Bharathi had Kannama as his inspiration
Bharatithasan had Bharathi's kavithaigal as his inpiration....

anyway..a single loops...mostly last only 3 - 4 seconds...
usually created by beats...so..when u adjust the timing between each beats..u get a different loop..
to make it different...some musicians use different intrsument instead of drum beats..
just imagine....3 - 4 seconds...co incidence...is boudn to happen to matter what..dah mangga
Even GOD produces 2 - 3 (or up to 7) human beings with the same look.....oh my gosh....GOD is the biggest copy cat...he started copying since Adam & Eve

NONE of those songs listed above qualify as lifts - they are inspirations. "Nahin Saamne" in Taal cannot be called a copy of the Titanic theme song. There may be similarities in small phrases at a place or two. That DOES NOT undermine ARRs contribution or creativity or his skill in composing that beautiful tune.
In the 50s and 60s, the MDs from all over India have been lifting tunes lock, stock and barrel, without qualms. THOSE are true copies. The songs listed by you certainly don't fall in that category.

xml,
why arent you responding to PHP and DHTML. the reason is you havent heard most of these songs yourself. if you had you wouldnt be putting them here. you just took it of a web site that listed them. but you cleverly one thing mensioned in that website abt each song that is listed "THAT THE TUNE IS ORIGINAL". most of the things mensioned there are abt commertially available loops. if you bothered to search for them you will find them too.

i don't condem MD's for using lifted tunes, it's a common thing all over the world.
But if they use some samples which were already part of a hit of someone else, i guess they should be so decent to mention that!
I mean if you can't hear evidently that it's a lift, then it's more or less okay, if you don't admit it, but otherwise...
Film Directors in India are in the same dilemma, they copy hollywood-movies as if they had they rights to do a remake.
I think, that this is a great moral problem about it in our country!
and @ace there is no point in your statement, that ace of base copied rahman! All that she wants was released in 1993, but Rahmans Indian came out in 1996. And I don't think that Rahman was working more than 3 years on that song :-)
