excellent songs in dud movies

How many times you have gone to the picture hall got thoroughly bored by the flick & suddenly an excellent song comes along ( in most cases horribly picturised ) It left you wondering what is this song doing in a movie like this. Conversely you liked a song very much that you went to see the movie with the same result.
For starters I have given half a dozen.
1.gangai nadhi oram Raman nadanthan ( varaprasadham. Vijay Kumar , jay chitra horror)
2.meen kodi theril manmatha rajan (Karumbu vil. why was this movie made beats me)
3 engum niraindha iyarkayil enna sugamo ( idhu eppadi irukku. dandama irrukku. based on sujatha's Anitha ilam manaivi. it was averitable kotthu kari. *g jai & sridevi)
4.Vaanavillinul varna jaalangal ( Naan naane than *g P Madhavan's son Aamam nee neeye than en velliya vanthe)
5.Unakkenna mele ninrai ( Simla special what was special was this was a tragic comedy. Sv sekar irrunthum ...oru sirippu kood illai)
6.Malargale malargale (Love birds. pyramid natarjan & P Vasukku than velicham indha padathin nokkam enna enru)
I can think of other movies. the criteria is that the movie should suck ( of course mostly the movies would have bombed but there may be exceptions)
I don't want people to come & post simla Special Ariyaluril 20 Naal Pocchu enru. The movie sucked big time ( more so as it was from Mukta movies)

  I think all the songs in solla thudikkuthu manasu were good ... Enathu vizi vazimeelee, Thenmozhi, Poovee Sempoovee, Kuyilukkoru niRamirukku and Vaayakkatti vayiththak katti.
  
  I was surprised to know that Editor B. Lenin was the director of this 'well below average' movie ... Later he made some good short films like 'Knock-Out' and 'Madhi' etc.,

  'paadum paRavaikaL' is one (telugu dubbing) movie (MD : IR) that had a few very good songs - KeeravaaNi, Eeekaantha veLai and one more ...
  
  I saw the movie when I was in college and I didn't understand even a bit of what the director tried to convey in the movie ... But the songs were too good ... 'keeravaaNi' (the raaga and the song) is one of my all time fav.s ... !

  Taj Mahal? The picturisations wud have been ok, if the hero hadnt appeared in them. (I've seen some of the songs on tv) I didnt watch the movie, as I was advised by many well-meaning friends not to...so I dont think I cud have missed much.

  Innisai mazhai,adhiradi padai,koilpura,tik3,ananda raagam,kadhal oviyam(how can one forget this?),anandakummi,thangamagan,anbe odi vaa(beautiful songs-sp/ir combination),magudi,kairaasikkaran,un kannil neer vazhindhal,kodi parakkudhu(horror (of a )movie.more to follow!

  "kaadhalin dheepam ondru" from "thambikku endha ooru" .. this song could hv come in a love-oriented movie like "idhayathai thirudaadhey"... what a song and what a helluva movie which it came ..:(

  Vj by no stretch of imagination is Thambikendha ooru a dud.
  Yaaro Same for tik tik tik. Innisai mazhai did it have good songs it was dud both ways. Yes I agree kadhal oviyam was bad but I know some people who liked it.
  As I had told at the start let us not talk of personal likes /dislikes (. the criteria is that the movie should suck - of course mostly the movies would have bombed but there may be exceptions)
  yes ananda ragam had great songs but it did have a cogent story of sorts. borderline caseil pass pannividum
  ananda gummi is a great addition to the all time dud list( congrats yaaro) I've not heard of anbe odi vaa. can u let me in on the songs & more details to decide on the dud list)

  anybody watched Time? I understood what bad direction was after watching tat movie. There was no continuation between the scenes and the trauma left me wit a bad headache. I dont think many wud object to me classifying tis under the 'excellent songs' category since it was by IR.

  Kadhal Oviyam is one helluva movie. Kannan was not your typical hero, but the story, the songs, the picturisation, the climax, all were good.
  It is a pity that the movie failed commercially.
  Even today, I can enjoy Sangeetha jaathi mullai picturisation.
  
  Guess, who marries Ratha in this movie? :)

  Only one song, Maalayil vethanai vaatuthadi by UnniK was excellent in Time.

  Sollu Thudikudhu Manasu - the worst, junk, worthless movie i had ever seen - but with very good songs..... NagaS, its not a "well below average" - its a trash movie.... i think we can keep this movie as a reference for all the *worst* movies..... and yes, Padum Paravaigal also would fall under this category - hmmm... interesting that both had Karthik......
  
  any one heard of a movie called "DHaaayam Onnu" - Arjun was there.... this one had one good number by IR - "manadhelaae oru paaatu" by SPB.... real good number in yet another junk movie....
  
  "Kizhakaee Poggum Rail".... other than screen play, vijayan's acting, IR - all others were worthless in the movie..... just go and see this movie and we will not belive if it is the same Radhika that we see today......
  
  "Vanna Vanna Pookaaal" - hmm.... totally not sure what Balumahendra thought when he took this movie.... had very good numbers.....

  Paadum Paravaigal's original ANveshaNa in Telugu was a fantastic hit...for its novelty in treatment and excellent music. It didn't go down well with the Tamil audience.

  I'm surprised that you were able to list only a few (and even those were not unanimous).
  Kazhugu, Guru (tamil), other SP Muthuraman movies, idhaya kovil, chinna thambi, panakkaran, any other P. Vasu movie, pudhiya mugam... c'mon guys you can list much much more..
  
  I find it really perplexing that our movies really suck while our songs are some of the greatest music ever composed in the world.

  Anbe odi vaa was a mohan starrer-oorvasi was the heroine.ALL the songs were good-jodi nadhigal(SP),kanavodu engum(SJ) azhagaana pookal(again SP)kaadhil kettadhu(MV and UR),idhazhil amudham(KJYVJ)all the songs were very good-I went to theatre with high expectation.Direction was by Ranjith.Another movie with excellent songs was another mohan starrer which had the song engengu nee sendra podhum.(ninaikka therindha maname)
  how can we forget nizhalgal-one of the biggest flops of BR?then there is a movie from rajini called shiva,andha oru nimidam,mandhira punnagai(lovely song called mandhira punnagaiyo by SJ-with lot of WCM orchestration-absolute dud from satyaraj)naanum oru thozhilali,another one called thazhuvadha kaigal from vijayakanth(two lovely nos-vizhiye vilakkondru etru-fantastic orchestration- and onna renda)...One thing about IR's orchestration-I still have not met his equal in orchestrating -listen to poomalaiye from pagal nilavu-what a song!incidentally,this movie had a few other songs which were good-but commercially it was a so so only.

  Ninaikka therindha maname had some other good songs also - kannukkum kannukkum modhal, etc. It was the story by Manian (of Idhayam Pesugirathu fame)

  Personally I think this listing exercise has gone crazy!
  
  How can anyone criticize Sangamam, Ithaya Koyil, Thazhuvaatha Kaigal and for heaven's-sake, Nizhalgal (!!!!!!) as being dud movies?
  
  Also, categorising Naanum Oru Thozhilaali as a dud movie with good songs, must be the joke of the year!
  
  To think that most from the above list, came from Yaaro, casts some shadows on the state of mind of Yaaro. :)

  En Veenai Paadudhey"
  
  Sung by Kamal for a dud movie called 'Oh Maaney Maaney'. Actually Kamal didn't act in this movie. He was passing by when IR was recording this song. It was very sudden that IR asked Kamal to sing this song. One of the best songs by IR till today.
