  Agree that she has a distinctive voice and style. TFM did not showcase her versatility to its maximum, since she was relegated mostly to sing for second heroines and vamps. Some more additions...Muthu kulika vaareeyala with TMS....Vandhaal ennodu ingae vaa thendralae.

  "LRE paadiya aththanaiyum pramaadham": don't get
  carried away like that; because LRE's voice was
  "sexy" and rough, in the late 60's and 70's she
  was mainly used for all the "cabaret" junk stuff
  (Isai Piriyare, indha paattukkalaiyum neer
  include panninaal ungal peyarai "Isai-as-well-as-
  Osai(noise)-Piriyan" endru maatri vaiththu
  kollungal. OK-yaa?
  
  Two more songs with excellent humming by LRE:
  Veedu varai uravu veedhi varai manaivi
  (Paadha Kaanikkai)
  Pavalak kodiyile muththukkal pooththaal
  (Panam Padaiththavan)
  
  It was generally accepted that LRE's voice
  did not suit most heroines; that's why she
  did not get many songs, eventhough she was
  a very good singer and was a close friend
  of MSV. The only heroine for whom LRE was
  accepted and regularly used was J (right from
  Vennira Aadai to many MGR movies). I have
  heard that MSV tried PS first for "pattaththu
  raani", then gave up and then brought-in LRE
  to sing it.
  
  I have heard that IR wanted LRE to sing
  "machchanai paaththeengalaa" in Annakkili,
  but something happened and Janaki sang it
  in the end. Any details on this? It's strange
  that LRE did not sing any song for IR.

  I can't believe this forum is going on. LRE - a versatile singer? My toes are laughing!!! Come on guys, give me a break.
  Granted she sang a few nice songs - but they must be less than 10% of all her songs. Even her devotional songs are a pain to the ear!
  And don't worry - this time I won't turn around and say that I am a LRE-fan!!!

  Why LRE did not sing for IR?
  
  I know that when IR started his career with AnnaKilzhi movie, he asked for a female singer to sing . That particular singer refused or insulted IR beacause he was a new music director. Then he went to Janaki. That is how Janaki sang most of IRs songs.

  Hi, I am From Singapore and I am a fan of L.R.E too.She has certainly has sang for Illaiyaraja.The movie is 'Thani kudithanam' with S.P.Bala.I can remember the first verse but the second goes like this:
  Innum Enna Solla Un Meni Minnum Vannam Singarakkolangal'.
  And I think V.Kumar certainly has made her sing
  most beautiful songs too.
  LIke Mappillai rahasiaym sollavaa(Arangetram),
  Pesaamal Vaa(with T.M.S. Can't remember the movie)
  Kavithal Naan Kalaignan Nee(T.M.S. in a Jaishankar Movie)
  And other songs like Anubavam thaaney vara Vendum

  Have you heard LRE's voice "naan uyirukku tharuvadhu vilai
  kangalai kondu vaa" song in an old film Raja?
  She could put SPB's crooning in "irandil onru" to shame. SJ is nowhere near LRE in cabaret numbers. People who go high on Britney's 'slave' number must listen to this song.
  She intelligently covers up with her brilliant sangathis even the not so elegant song composition in the pallavi and charanam endings in this song
