We are happy to inform you that we are making all arrangements to launch the channel as soon as the formalities are all tied up.

As they say 'The best things in life are worth waiting for'. So wait and watch out for SUNWORLDTV, The test signals are underway, We will be on air soon.

A lot of you have requested that we use the platforms used by Zee and Sony as you have these connection already or plan to take these connections.

Much as we understand your problems with regards to having to purchase an extra satellite dish, which would, not only mean extra costs but also extra space. We must inform you that the DirectTV network and Dish Network are not enthusiastic about starting another Indian channel.

They do not believe that the South Indian community is large enough to take up that kind of programming. They are reluctantly committing approximately 4 hours of programs for all the four languages, which is not sufficient at all.

Our plan is to start as a 24-hour channel for the four languages together first and then slowly move to having 24 hour programming for each language. To do this we need to get on a platform, which is open to such expansions.

The Japanese channel comes on a platform which does not have too many channels but the Japanese people in the USA have supported the platform and proved that what is important is not the platform but the program that they want to see.

We hope that the South Indians in the USA and Canada will also take the Japanese approach and look at the program and not the platform. We are in the process of striking a deal with 'Telstar' and we are also negotiating a good deal with the satellite dish agents to give us a good deal on the dish or absorb a part of the dish cost. With regards to the subscription fee we are looking at a upper point of US$ 19.99 per month.

We hope to keep updating you very regularly as we make progress on various activities.

  Sun TV is still going through a Test phase and I'm told that the regular broadcast will commence from April 14th/15th (co-inciding with the Thamizh new year I guess!). Right now the programs and the high frequency of repeats (of bad programs) make the novelty wear out within a week to ten days. I thonk the jury is still out and we will know only after regular broadcasts start.

  Ordinarily I would not write this here, what with this being NOT directly connected with TFM. But Ravi (BTW where is he these days?) and bb having allowed this thread to remain in the DF, I thought it was only fair that I publish my review of the SUN TV broadcast in the U.S.
  
  From a customer's perspective, ATN's broadcast of SUN TV programs (or tapes shall I say) SUCKS!
  
  First, the broadcast didn't start as originally scheduled for Feb 15th or later announced for April 15th. But that is history. More, about the current status. The current programs have too many repeats of the same programs and absolutely no consistency or continuity whatsoever. They have some off the shelf 'Best hits of Yesudas' type video cassettes which they pop into the VCR and broadcast as and when they feel like (at least 30 times in the past month itself, I feel). There is no concept of Prime Time or Weekend Programs. Obviously, the boneheads have not done any research on U.S. based South Indian Customer expectations or more importantly, and I am afraid this is the actual reason, they don't care. As in most Indian businesses (I am sad to say this) they are only interested in sale and not in customer satisfaction. If you are hoping that you are going to see some 'top notch' regular SUN TV programs that you probably saw in India, keep hoping. God! How many times are they going to show the same Thillana Thillanaa? The first two months, they used to show looooong promotional clips about Sun, Udaya, Surya and Gemini TV - on the SUN TV channel itself. Hello! I already have the channel, so I don't need your stupid and long commercial. Add to this, is another promo clip on ATN (an equally bad channel for the Hindi audience) with abundant clips on Jaya and Chandrasekhar, who I believe own the station. I have seen their faces more times than JFK Jr. in the recent past.
  
  Honestly, I think they have a long way to go but, then, we are after all Indian customers who have never demanded better. The long lines at the dirty atmosphere in Devon Street are my proof and I rest my case.

Indian businesses are a mirror image of the quality of the people behind those businesses, what can you and I do. no standards, no efforts, no research, no concern,no enthusiasm levels, no care and absolutely pile on types. be there first and ride the wave as long it lasts and make quick bucks all for personal gains. there is an interesting article in the rediff, typical of the scenes we see as the norm. i don't blame us, but blame our uncultured and selfish leaders lost in one-dimensional values.

  For those who tend to be skeptical about that Rediff article, I would like to say that my experience was pretty similar on Singapore Airlines ! Yeeeuck ! I have completely sworn off SIA, specifically between Madras and S'pore !
  
  rajaG, Devon Street (in Chicago, I presume) cannot hold a candle to Serangoon Rd. in Singapore ! It is WORSE than the worst sections of Madras !

  RajaG - "Naan pesa ninaithathellam neengal pesi vitteergal" - stomach burning with Sun TV programs - pagal kollai - I have no clue how I fell for this... was lured into buying this stupid dish - which most people refuse to install saying they have had pretty bad exp. with ATN installing the "outdated technology" dish and in getting customer support... The only reason I am still holding on to it is - oru nappaasai - "wont they get sick of their own performance and for once telecast quality programs" It costs big bucks (199 for dish - 40 for S & H, 150 for installation and on top of it 19.99 per month for a piece of junk!!!)
  
  The funniest part is when you think you are watchign a tamil movie - you are mistaken - in an hour you would be treated with a malayalam tape!! - they change tapes by the hour and this has happened atleast twice (once during My dear Marthandan and again during the telecast of Anjali)... I hardly see these days as am sick and tired of watching the same old same old yesudass collection tapes....
  
  BB and Ravi thanks for letting us vent out - this is TFM related - as most of the times Sun TV does telecast the same tape consisting of a bunch of stupid songs...

  Jaya and Chandrasekhar are NOT the politicians we know... they are the couple that own ATN (I think). The guys mannerisms when he interviews people were funny the first week and downright irritating the following weeks. He wags his finger, shakes his hand , and puts on phony accents and tries to impress the interviewee with his outstanding knowledge(?!). Proof? Watch his interviews of Asha Bhosle, Pithukuli Murugadas and Ragheshwari. Poor things!!

  I have sent an e-mail to info@sunworldtv.com expressing my disgust about their broadcast and have also attached my 'review' published above. I strongly urge all concerned parties to write to them and get them to change their act. If we, as customers, do not demand better, we will never get the service which we expect or deserve. BTW, did you know that their toll free number 1-888-306-7288 is no longer in service. Surprise! Surprise! If I don't get a proper response from them AND if their service (broadcast and customer) doesn't improve significantly, I am going to explore if we can take the matter to the Better Business Bureau.

  There is this guy called Naidu and I guess he is "incharge"! He lied to me about going live from April 14th... they charged me twice for the dish - once for sending a faulty(a piece of crap which the installation guy refused to install) and then they sent me one more set - guess what! they charged me twice for the same and I am yet to get my money back... I have threatened to take this issue up seriously if they do not give me a credit by the end of this week... let us see what happens!!!
