  Actor Rajnikant is the only Indian artiste to have superstar status in Japan and his films are eagerly looked forward to all over the country. His latest film Baba, all set to release on August 15th has apparently sold for a whopping Rs 7 crores in Japan.
  
  Based on a true story of a truck driver with Rajnikant playing the title role, the film also has Amitabh Bachchan and Chiranjeevi in special appearances. A few Japanese actors have also acted in the film, which is currently in its final phase of completion. In fact, Rajni has also shot 11 minutes of the film in Japanese only to please the Japanese audiences. The actor, who became famous in Japan after his film Muthu also has a great fan following in Singapore, Malaysia, Dubai and Mauritius. Baba has already earned over Rs 50 crores through its audio, satellite and theatrical rights for the actor, who has the solo world rights for the film. The actor has also registered his style of acting so that nobody mimics or copies his trademark mannerisms commercially.

  It's for the first time in the history of regional cinema that a film has been sold for a whopping Rs 50 crore. The film is none other than the Rajanikanth starrer Baba, which is due for release on August 15, all over India. Coming after a gap of three years, the film had whipped up excitement from the word go.
  
  The storyline has been kept under wraps. An insider says that the southern superstar will take potshots at political parties in the role of a lorry driver who through hard work turns rich. He is dragged into politics but pulls out. His battle with the powers that be forms the story of Baba. Replete with stunts and songs composed by A.R. Rahman, the film has Manisha Koirala as Rajanikanth's heroine. Chiranjeevi and Amitabh Bachchan put in guest roles.
  
  Sharing the same neighbourhood with AIDMK supremo Ms Jayalalitha led to a petty clash over the cops frisking the superstar. He launched a tirade against her and sided with DMK chieftain Karunanidhi. Just months before this the star had praised her for her political moves. To his luck the lady was ousted in the elections but whether it was due to his `pull' was not known. He never took to the streets to campaign but in a televised interview he made it clear she was not his choice. His political choices have always been puzzling. With Cho Ramaswamy a maverick has his adviser, the star was caught in a fix when his two friends G K Moopnar, the TMC founder, and DMK 's Karunanidhi parted ways.
  
  His proximity to BJP bigwigs like L K Advani, too, added to the confusion. In the previous election he chose to be away from the state. His admirers claim that if he were to enter politics he would wipe out the Dravidian parties and be the Chief Minister.
  
  The guessing game has only added more `masala' to his films since every double meaning dialogue is seen as a gauntlet thrown at CM Jayalalitha. However he surprised everyone by thanking the CM for a move that benefited the theatre owners and the next day visited Karunanidhi too. Baba, Rajanikanth's 150th film in 26 years, is fetching massive prices. Overseas rights and audio as well corporate sponsorship was sold for a price that is undisclosed. Rajanikanth, who is also the producer of the film, has patented the film's title and logo. Caps, headbands and shirts of Baba are soon to flood the market. Well into his 50s, Rajanikanth continues to be an enigma. A lover of good scotch and women, he mouths religious sayings and visits ashrams and temples. An actor who still creates hysteria even among toddlers, Rajanikanth the legend will hit 200 theatres on August 15h to once again prove that he continues to be a peerless superstar.

  rajni trying to cash everything.
  
  just a run thru of his buisness mind.
  
  actual cost to make baba 10crore max
  cost obtained from sponsors like pepsi and other companies whose boards are shown in the movie goes about 5 crore and cost obtained from audio market about 3.5 crore and some lakhs in this sun tv program and aishwarya doing a film on making of baba they plan to sell this to all tvs that will bring them about 2 crore, the intresting part is that campa cola sets are going to be for an exhibition for public to see which has entry tickets and that is going to do a lot to baba. above all the movie has been marketted for 85 crore all over the world.

  adhudhaan unakku ejamaanan"
  
  if rajni gets around 120 crore in this movie
  he donated 60 crore to ragavEndra trust.

  coz.......muthu was said to be his 150th film......and dat was the reason it was produced by KB??
  
  and then after padayappa........i saw in The Hindu that this was 150th film and was a great sucess.
