  When ARR burst into the musci scene few years ago People thought IR 's era was over.
  But they have been proved wrong by IR. He still
  continues to come up with creative music.
  
  My Question is What was happening when
  Anna Kili came out? I know MSV was dominating the music scene then but I want
  to know if he coexisted with IR for many years?
  Did he continue to give good songs?

  Oh Yah, IR and MSV co-existed for 5 to 6 years
  in TFM; roughly between 1976-1982, after which
  MSV started fell out; also, I think the fall-out
  was gradual. Directors like Balachander were
  still with MSV for many years after IR came in.
  Movies like Manmadha Leelai, Moondru Mudichchu,
  Nizhal Nijamaagirathu, Ninaiththaale Inikkum,
  and Varumaiyin Niram Sigappu- all came during
  this period, and were all by MSV.

  meenava nanban, andhamaan kaadhali, aayiram
  jenmangal, ennaippol oruvan, sankar saleem simon,
  taxi driver, nizhal nijamaagirathu, pilot
  premnath, general chakravarthy, vanakkaththukkuriya kaadhaliye,
  vandikkaaran magan, varuvaan vadivelan,
  imayam, ore vaanam ore boomi, suprapaatham,
  thirisoolam, ninaiththaale inikkum,
  noolveli, nenjukku needhi, billaa, varumaiyin
  niram sigappu, andha 7 naatkal, 47 naatkal.
  
  All these movies had at least two good songs
  each. I am sure there are many more that I do not

  annakili days were my "Lalgudi Days" with half TOUSER full of
  theepati padam, kundu, pambaram,..... I liked annakili songs
  very much so does everybody.
  That time the whole industry was on a downward trend (
  (including MGR/SIVAJI, jai/muthu/ravi were getting replaced by
  Rajni/Sreekant/kamal). Annakili was the first movie which was
  taken completely in out-doors and it had a good story line
  and sujatha/sivakumar's acting and music also helped for the hit.
  Annakili had good tunes but music vice it wasn't much different from
  other MDs. (Does anyone knows about the "Machanap pAtheengala"
  controversy that it was first made with Psusila and later
  changed to SJanaki ??).
  
  After Annakili, IR almost consistenly gave 1 or 2 hit songs
  in each movie in a slow-n-steady pace. He made the difference
  once-in-a-while (initially) with songs like:
  Chinnak kannan azaikirAn
  KandEn engum pUmagal Natiyam kAnbathellAmE
  
  and after Priya with the intro of Stereo recording he started
  his domination.
  Ingeneral, an emergence of a new MD won't make other MDs
  to uthify. The new stuff will have its influence and slowly
  dominates and becomes a standard - when that situation came
  KB wanted to boost the MSV's enthu (7 years after anakili)
  and made NinaithAlE Inikum. Till then the upward trend of
  IR and the downfall of MSV was gradual. Those were the
  times movies were made with NO POLITICS.
  
  In case of IR to ARR, the whole cine industry wanted an
  alternative to IR's arrogance/ego/dominance(in evrything
  other than music) and ARR also came up with diiferent
  music in Roja. OOPS..I seem to migrate from the topic,

  Sathya, you are right. Really Annakkili made a difference in the TFM and moviedom too.
  As regards theepetti padam, it was sigaret attai fad then and i used to have lots of "passing show" attais in my touser. (They carried a great exchange value) Charminar, wills, etc., and i clearly remember, it was always "machanay partheengala" on the radio.
  About the controversy stuff, there wasnt any controversy at all, except that Ilay had a very bad start.
  It seems when Ilay gave the 1,2,3,4 count and when S Janaki was about to start recording her song for Annakili, the power tripped and it seems there existed an eerie silence!! The power was back and S Janaki
  sang the song only to be detected later on that it was not successfully recorded due to some snag. That should have shook Ilay, but does not seem so !!!

  Ilayaraja in one of his interviews told that he went ahead to record his first song power tripped off. Then recording was bad. Then when everything went on well and he wanted to listen to the sone, to his shock. he discovered that the recordist did not run the tape and the song was not recorded. IR told that he felt thats the end of his career but we know what happened later

  It is actually made for L.R Easwari but she refused to sing under IR because she thought it would spoil her image if she sings under an unknown MD. That is why she never sing any song under IR's banner. This is due to her arrogance so Ir never give her chance for her.

  Its a great relief that we do not hear any more of Illayaraja's horrible voice, After the advent of AR we here lovely voices of upcoming youngsgter. After the good and Classic years of MSV now we are able here some lovely creative music of people like AR, Vidhasagar, S. Rajkumar. Produces who need cheap music may go to Illayaraja. Good riddence of Bad rubbish
