This is my question....Udit Narayan, Hariharan, Sadhana Sargam, Kavitha Krishnamurti,Sonu Nigam - All sing in Tamil. But their Tamil is really very bad. Are Tamils deaf, tolerant, or have no PERUMAI in their own language? Is there really a shortage of good, tamil-speaking singers? Or is this really Tamil Inferiority Complex?

Indhu,
I forgot to mention the previous posting is not my posting, that is an article which I read in Outlook India. I posted the same, without adding my comments with the link to complete article.

"vijay, i agree that 'olive oil' sounded very out of place in that song. Even oxygen-nirappi in anbe anbe from jeans sounded funny and spoilt the mood of the song.
But i think the funny-ness of lyrics are sometimes designed to gain our attention. (i'm not justifying their use here)
"
Why not, I am sorry, but in this song it sounded out of place..maybe in a song like kaadhal sadugudu, VM could have demonstrated his English vocab :-)

Well, now that we've had a bit of tamashai (would that be Thomas in Tanglish??) perhaps we can get back to the topic at hand.
If this thread is turning into "punnakku" then maybe the "punnyavans" can move on to other sites of higher learning and pilgrimage? Yes, please do us - the lessers - the favour!
And - what was that "(ali)as" in the above posting? Another gem of gender-bias...or have we graduated to healthy homophobia?
I now understand what Shakti (from an earlier posting) meant when she called us all pigs in a "saakadai."
If sexist jokes/rejoinders, bigotry and misogyny are all wondrous source of laughter to you - then take this as a personal request: Start your own thread and indulge your view of the world elsewhere...Some of us "seriously" don't share your sense of humour. In fact, we find it to be offensive and insensitive.

Indhu, I personally request you please do not take everything seriously. It seems you just wait for such offensive occasions. I have to make such comments because due to minute bites of some kosuru fellows. Please be little generous to write two sentences on them too..And if you do not like just surpass them.

Fliflo,
I am not the serious person you make me out to be. I enjoy a good laugh myself - and have no qualms about being goofy or people having a good time.
However, (yep, that dreaded however) I think that we have to unlearn some of our bigoted attitudes towards women, gay people, others of different persuasions, races and beliefs. I strongly believe that we can all learn to accept our differences and celebrate our common humanity. You sound like a person of respect, intellect and curiosity. Thoughtless people can say thoughtless things and that can be cast aside with "they don't know any better." It is when thoughtful people say thoughtless things that one really has to being to wonder and worry.
Have fun - but make sure it is not at the expense of someone who is disadvantaged, marginalised or plain misunderstood or rejected by society. Laugh with people, but try not to laugh at them.
I am happy to have started this thread. This is my first such endeavor on the internet. In fact, this is the first time I have ever been in a discussion forum with perfect, faceless strangers. But you know what - with every day this is feeling to be like a community. And I am glad to be part of it.
I have been receptive to the participation here. I don't know about loyalty and support for "Indhu" - but I know that "Indhu" has made people write a good deal here - and I know the writing is more a sign of your investment in this issue. I am merely a catalyst.
Please keep up the discussion.
Best wishes, Indhu

So that's it for this thread, I guess. A slow and inevitable slide into jokes, chitchat and general goodfornothingness?
Maybe these fora are called threads for a reason. They tatter, even though the fabric is of top-quality?

Indhu,
thread is sort of a child process that is forked from a bigger process to complete a small task and exit.
similarly this discussion is a thread whcih is spawned off from the tfm page process. it will complete the discussion and slowly exit.

plus 1 more point. Dont defend the prostitution of tamil in the hands of the suntv moontv presenters its disgusting!
indhu do not also defend the globalization of tamil in this sense... we dont learn french or german because the lagguage was considerable adultrated to suit our taste.
similarly we should avoid tamil being hammered out as garbage.

I don't know if this has already been mentioned in this thread, but on Sunday (9th December 2001), an interview of Karthik Raja was broadcast on Deepam TV (Europe's Sun TV franchisee). Karthik Raja said that the reason for Tamil music directors using singers from the North was that record companies offer to buy audio rights if North Indian singers (who presumably have contracts with these companies) are employed. This leads to producers putting pressure on directors who in turn put pressure on music directors to employ North Indian singers.
