I am listening to this song as I type. The first few lines go
Vizhiye Kathai Ezhudhu
Kanneeril Ezhudhadhe
Manjal Vanam Thendral Kaatru
Unakkagave Naan Vaazhgiren
Is there any connection between the first two lines and the last two? I can as well write
Vizhiye Kathai Ezhudhu
Kanneeril Ezhudadhe
Vengaya Sambar Thakkali Chatni
Masala Dosai Sappitten
And I have heard that MGR & Kannadasan had a longstanding tiff, but Sridhar surreptiously got Kannadasan to write the lyrics - which impressed MGR so much that the tiff came to an end. I can't figure out why MGR should get impressed with such lousy lyrics.
Can someone see some coherence or meaning into this? Please explain, if you can. I would love to be proven wrong!

Bhoori,
'Manjal Vanam Thendral Kaatru ' illianga...
'manjaL vAnam, thendral sAtchi, unakkAgavE nAn vAzhgiREn'
Now, this is quite poetic, is it not?

a loose translation:
nay, don't shed tears with those beautiful eyes...they're meant to create epics...why cry when I vow to live for you alone...look, the dusky horizon and breeze are witnesses to my pledge...

even I too was thinking it was "Thendral kaatru" first. but the way PS rendering cleared the doubt. and it is "saatchi".

Ah. Satchi is definitely better than kaatru and makes more sense. (e, epic ellam enge thedi pidiccheenga indha varigalile?)
However, the first two lines are really good lyrics - asking the eyes not to use tears for writing. You can read lot of meaning into those lines. Is Kannadasan saying don't use tears as you would use ink? Is he saying don't use tears so that the story won't be a tragic one?
The next two lines feel like a filler - words written to fill a tune. There is not even "edugai monai" to make it sound better. And they have no real connection with the first two lines. There should have been some mention of writing.

SK, Ennai romba pugazhadheenga!
Irundhalum neenga konjam sappaikkattu kattareenga. In the song, the first exhortation is to write a story; then there is the corollary, not to write it with tears. If you want to treat the third and fourth lines as the cause for the first two lines, you could say that
Manjal vanam, thenral katru satchiyaga unakkagave naan vazhgiren. adhanal vizhiye kathai ezhudhu
varaikkum varalam. Indha karanatthala ezhudappadum kathai edhukkaganga kanneeral ezhudhappadum? Lathavoda duet padaradhu Nambiara MGRa? Thanakka MGR vazaharatthukku edhukkaga Latha azhap poranga? Oru velai MGRai makeup illama patthiruppangalo?
