But I am sure Deva's inspirations will be better than Anu Malik's and Rajesh Roshan's.
Way to go Deva!

Deva has tuned more than 3000 film songs in that 300 are his originals....Only Kaadhala....from Avvai Shanmugi is used in Hindi...He will pick up 6 tunes from the remaining 299 tunes and surely KARAI serndhu viduvar.....TNS

TNS,
Can you give the copied songs of Deva in his last 10 movies as an example? Pls don't exaggerate. He might have copied but gave beautiful numbers. You only need a Tamilian to pull another. What is ARR doing? Exporting from Tamil to Hindi and importing from Hindi to Tamil. Ada pongappa.
I agree with Neels. He is much better than the likes of Annu/Roshan. Best of Luck Deva.

Guys, Please chill out!!!
Deva has given many great numbers starting from Asai till date. I like lot of his songs which were composed with strong classical background. Regarding the Gana songs who have understand the compulsion from the directors for the front bench audience. Lets hope another tamilian succeed in bollywood where they have stupids like anu malik and also manage to get national award.
Cheers
Raj

Let us wish Deva to taste the success in Hindi also.
Do well Deva!

Deva also knows percussion based rhythm :)..except that it sounds little more ethnic than say, ARR's. So I think he will do well in Hindi. Also, they have good arrangers, assistants et. al (like Ranjit Bharot) etc who can do the 'adaptation' or 'modernisation' needed for the HFM world. You never know he probably will be successful there as well. I understand Sandeep Chowta is chennai based. So this is not going to be a major shift for the Hindi Film people.

There was also a pop-singer whose debut single was quite good and featured on MTV...I forget his name..I read that he said while promoting his album in Chennai that original and creative music is more appreciated and encouraged in the South...let's keep that spirit burning !

Deva has composed many beautiful songs. example
- oo Keechi kiliye (mugavari)
- Macarina (kushi)
- April mathathil (vaalee)
and many more.
These music are far much better than what usually appears in the Hindi songs. By the way ,Hindi film songs are always the same. The female singers have similar voices which sometimes makes us difficult to detect and bore us, ex. alka yagnik, lata, asha, anuradha paudwal, sadhana sargam, kavita paudwal...
Among them, i think kavita krishnamurthy is the only singer which we can guess correctly.
We are gifted because tamil movie singers have their own unique voice, ex. chitra, harini, swarnalatha, uma ramanan, susila, anuradha sriram.

the three songs that you mentioned wwere exact copys from english version. I saw a program in TV which said and showed this. I don't remember the originals. Some body who knows this can definitely help you.

Suresh/Common Friend.,
Macarina is the POP version of 'Unnai aRainthaal' - old MGR Number (BTW, Who is the MD for this song ? MSV ?)
Deva already copied this song as 'Oh mummy' song in 'Minsarak kaNNa' - looks like he is not fully satisfied and then he reworked on it to come-up with superhit 'Macarina' ;-)
Some time back in SunTV Saptha swarangaL program, one small kid sang all these three songs together - Oru pallavi, oru saraNam, again one pallavi and it showed clearly how clever deva is when it comes to copying !

According to this paga, Deva has done some exceptional BGM work for Ajith's 'Citizen'., Avarae ninaichhcaalum muRiyadikka mudiyaathaam.,
http://www.tamilcinema.com/cinenews.asp?fname=Citizen3.htm
In one of the interviews IR mentioned that the toughest part in BGM is to score music for comedy and thriller movies .... Intha thrillerkku Deva Ennathaan paNNiyirukkiRaarnnu paarppoomee :-)

NagaS,
Deva might even copy the BG Scores for which i have 'n' examples (basha: when rajnikant says "en pEru mAnickam, enakku innoru pEr irukku..". The dialogues stop there and score takes over. that piece is the title score of judgement Day - brad fiedel)
Having said that, I really felt his score for vaali was good. He showed some promise in BG score
in moonravadhu kaN (which came in 93-94, i believe)

deva deserves no credit.. i guess this thread is givin him more credit than he deserves
aasai-
1) thilothama, konjam naal poru, menamma - all copies from ofra-ul-haza
Nerukku Ner
1) akila akila - buffallo soldier
2) manam verumbuthey - mana vyasakam
3)aval varuvaala, thudikindra kaatha - again ofra-ul-haza
Valee: this is a super copy album
1)sona sona - suzanna (by elvis presly)
2) april mathathil - say love(elvis presely)
3)Nilavai konduvaa- is it scary( Michael jackson)
there was an album KUSHI:
he copied the first 5 songs in "side A" of "dangerous" by Michael jackson and made it into an album... whats the fun? why should deva get credit??
I can quote another 2991 instances... but its a watse... in my opinion except the "ghana" songs which are "cheri" anyway all deva songs are copies... if the source is not immediatley obvious... we need to search and it will bcome obvious...

I agree with you 1000%. In my collage days, I used to maintain a list of deva's copied songs from old hindi and tamil songs. That list grew too much that I lost interest. I should have probably maintained a list of his originals. Difficult to find but, very easy to maintain. Just an one sided ruled papper is enough. Of course, you will have enough space to put your signature there.

hey guys, after reading your messages, i can't agree more with u all.I listen to Tamil songs more compared to English songs. That is why i was unable to see the similarities. But who never copies? I bet Illayaraja must have copied some songs during his time, (ex. Ram bam bam- from michael, madana , kama, rajan). Although Deva copies his music, he does change it to suit the Indian taste.
It is easy to criticise, but it is not easy to score a good music, right?

I agree., Leave the money, what about the popularity he is getting to do this Ctrl-C Ctrl-V job., No genuine artist will tolerate this .. Kamalhasan oru padaththilee solvaar '...nukku een intha ulakam mariyaathaiyai thanga thattile vechchu kodukkuthu ?' - I feel like telling the same when somebody praises Deva/SAR for their copied stuff.
