Thanks for asking. I sing a little bit. I haven't had any carnatic music training as such, but you could say that I have an ear for music. I don't have a keyboard, although I would love to have one, or any recording capabilities. I just sing for myself and sometimes here in the Indian functions and for my close friends. So I don't have any records/tapes or anything that I could have others listen to.
Regarding your song: As long the music is soulful, which it has been so far, there is no reason why it should be restricted to one ragam. Good luck.

Hi Guys..
Been away for a while...but I'm back!
Check out "Om"
http://www.nowhereradio.com/jkz/singles
All done in Software! Sequenced in Cubase SX.
The only sound used from my Triton is the Log Drum.
Sorry for the poor recording quality...still learning that part.
Jay.

Hi UV,
I am still hanging man...how are you? I come to the forum and read messages, but I rarely post...
Jay,
OM is really nice - I like the way u overlap two "Om"s with a small lag - like the way it is chanted. Maybe you could add another OM an octave down...
BTW which soft synth did u use (or did u something else)?

Swamiji...
Thanks..and its all soft synth/soft samplers...
I used Edirol Orchestral, SampleTank, Spectrasonics Stylus and Atmosphere, Steinberg Virtual Guitarist..
Sampler was Emagic EXSP24.."Om" is from Vocal Planet Sample cd by spectrasonics..
Its really a big world out there for soft synths..if you guys
wanna know more I'll be glad to help..
Feels good to break free and expand my reach!

Swamiji good to hear from you.
when you have time can you midify the song 'Meham kottatum' :)
Jay asusual you are an ambient man :)
What kind of pc do you have, soft synth arent they kind of cpu intensive ?!
- From: Jay. (@ 66.28.42.140)
on: Thu Jun 19 12:13:12 EDT 2003
UV...Softsynths do take a lot of CPU power..but you
can tune your system for audio and upgrade your RAM etc
then it will run ok. Also..you need a good
sound card that support ASIO.
I have a Dell 1.8Ghz, 1GB RAM.

whats the sequencer you used for your earlier midi works?
can you share some info as how you go about it?
thanks

Hi UV, I used Cakewalk Pro Audio 9. I have used it earlier with Yamaha PSR 620 to sequence. Now only my keyboard has changed (I have Korg Triton), but I still use General Midi (GM). Reason for using GM is that the instruments dont change when you play them in various keyboards. The problem is that GM sounds are limited and very dull...but this is what you get when you want a portable midi file.
The other thing to do is get the instrument definition file (*.ins) for your instrument so that you can assign patches in readable form as they apear in your kb. *.ins is Cakewalk stuff, so I am not sure about other sequencers. Now I sequence everything with cakewalk with and play with Korg...

GM sounding dull, maybe...
With Swamiji's sequencing - NO WAY!!!!

Corp circle?..funny name :)
There are quite a lot of programs that gives you "readymade" loops..Spectrasonics Stylus is a good one. Also check out Sample CDs like Metamorphosis by Spectrasonics..

Hi Guys,
Please let me know about sound cards. I am planning to buy a lap top. In that case could I be in a position to install a sound card ? If so, what are the best ones that I need to consider ? I would appreciate any info on Sound cards.
Thank You.

Hello Friends:
Here's my new score "Agnoticism"...As the name suggests, this score reflects the state of mind of an agnost...Agnost realizes the ultimate reality every time he/she thinks about it - but then he still continues his search. And the supreme lord preserves what the agnost has and give what she/he lacks...
This raaga is something which I longed to compose one...I got the right context for this score...

Da Vinci,

also got to
homerecording.com/bbs and search the forums.
Aditya: The raaga is kind of haunting..can you explain the raaga in terms of western notes?
When you have different instruments playing together, try to keep the main instrument in focus and let the others only support it without interfering.
