IR -> violin and tabla

IR - Violin. Only next to GOD in this aspect.
ARR - Flute. He has used/using it correctly and aptly in many places. One example is "Thee Thee" song TT. The flute before the second stanza errupts suddenly and end after a few seonds. You don't hear the flute in that song anymore. But, it leave a great impression. PC sriram did his best job in that song and in that part. The camera comes fastly thru the water and Heera is seen lying upside down on a rounded platform, in the middle of the water. The camera flowed with that flute. Wonderful piece of cinematography.

I firmly belive that voilin is IR's means of communicating and his favorite instrument.
In the same way! ARR's mouthpiecce has always been the flute. CF's example is just a mirror to my thoughts. Jathiraja's(none other than ARR) jathhi and that spine chilling flute was totally awesome. PC Sriram just touched the peak of cinematographic excellence by an indian. most of the zoom in and zoom outs unseen in Indian movies were from a french cinematographers creation of "fast paced focussing" documentary he released.
For people who have seen Michael Jacksons "in the closet" video. The french cinematographer shot that video and the same camera and techniques were used for this song although at a smaller level. Great stride indeed.
I rememer Dr. Laaksminarayan writing it was jathiraja doing fast paced "mohanam" beats though I am not sure abt it.
IR's how to name it was essentially in "voilin" and i can recall his DD interview where he told that his Voilin was his god (though not as much as his harmonium box)
anyway kawasaki and kurumbu ! I am sure anyone with computer and napster cud become ARR. then why dont u become one!

Salt analysis = copper sulphate
2)Physic lab experiments:
Prism = 60 degrees
TanB = .75321
Computer Lab:
1)IR's matrix transpose progream failed
2) determinant of matrix passed :-)

IR-Flute There are 'N' number of examples I can give.
You talk about the base flute ARR used in many of his songs. If that is the case, take the first two of following many which uses the same. And there are many more.
Pani Vizhum Iravu - Mounga Raagam
Aasaiya Kaathula - Johny
Aala Pirantha - Veera Thalaattu
Paadum Vaanmpaadi - Idhaya Kovil
Pottu Vaitha - Idhayam
Ila Nenje Vaa - Vanna Vanna Pookkal
Roja Poonthottam - Kannukkul Nilavu
Chinna Kannan - Kavikuyil
Kuyile - Kavikkuyil
Thallatuthe - Kadal Meenkal
Chiru Ponmani - Kallukkul Eeram
Mannil Indha - Keladi Kanmani
Subha Velai - Chiranjeevis dubbed movie.
Eaai Kuruvi - Muthal Mariyaathai
Senthoora Poove - 16 Vayathinile
Kuyile Kuyile - Aan Paavam
Oru Kunguma - Aaraadhanai
Putham Puthu - Alaikal Oyvathillai
Malaiyoram_TheerthaKaraiyinile.mp3
ARR-Flute? Hmmm. In fact for ARR I would say it would be bass guitar and drums . In fact every MD used it as an accompanying instrument and he tend to use them as his main.

I never said IR never used flute! I am saying he is fond of violin than the flute and ARR is more fond of flute.
I can list N songs where ARR uses flute very well! From IR's countless songs u can obviously list N flute songs! he cant possibly have done just violin!
But the mine and the common perception has always been ARR speaks thro flute more often than not.
most of his interludes r in flute. for IR 80% of his is in violins.
now i dont want to get into the discusiion of who is good in flute ARR/IR i am frankly getting tired of this. i used to think i was enthusiastic but i am kind of sapped with infinite looped args so take it easy:-)
arunLacaran: amaam ippo ennandra nee?
I dont think kawasaki and kurumbu r doing humor/levity they really believe and propogate that ARR is computer napster person and i dont believe and propoganda that IR is a 1st yr engineering student!

IR uses both violin and flute in most of his songs. ARR uses flute only in few songs. IR uses flute as a main instrument as well as for fill-ups and as the end-of-interlude to join the beginning-of-charanam.
No doubts that nobody ever used violins and flute as much as IR has!!!:-)

Dravid's favorite shot is on-drive doesn't mean that nobody else plays on drive nor does it mean that he has the most beautiful or the best on-drive of all the players. So why should people give N examples of IR's flute usage whenever some one mentions it as ARR's favorite instrument is simply beyond me !!

on: Wed Jul 18 19:50:30 EDT 2001
becuase you people have not seen grv's on-drive, off-drive, square-cuts, late-cuts, flicks, hooks and even pull! did i forget his exquisite cover-drives? :-))

Well Logic,
My N examples are not intended to say ARR never used flute either. My point is IR is pioneer with that. Thats all. In fact some thread in this forum criticised that he over-used it (!)
As for as flute goes, I have seen IR using it with the begining of the song, sync with voice, after the voice, interludes. I have listened to ARR using it in the beginning and in interludes. Also I would say the percentage used by IR is more.
IR's favorite instruments -->Violin, Flute, Dhabla, Mirudhangam, Tripple Bangos, Thavil, Vurumi (Last two used extensively in Folk songs)
I would stop saying ARR's as I have to give some logic to someone here :)

//". ARR uses flute only in few songs."//
i am sure anyone who subscribes to this view has never heard ARR. I rarely find songs of his without flute interludes.
and plz dont assume I know nothing abt IR( I am not a HCIRF who is ARR ignoramus :-)). he wud laugh at any one who even suggests that IR has flute over violin/harmonium
as i said b4 IR has done 4000 songs its tugh just to use the violin/harmonium only :-)

Bharath,
For that matter every one uses Violin more than other instruments (leave alone base/lead guitar, drums).
. I rarely find songs of his without flute interludes You are in a sticky friend my friend. This is where I wish to see the sample list. Again pls see my posting how IR handles flute and you partly seem to agree on that.

Bharath,
Let us take it sportively. Okay? These are the quick list I could prepare. In this list of films, can you (or anyone) come across other songs which ARR used flute? This is a request (not to be construed as challenge!)
Alai Paayudhe - Pachai Nirame (Is it keyboard?)
Bombay - Uyire
Duet - Anjali
Indian - Pachaikilikal
Indian - Telephone
Indira - Thoda Thoda
Indira - Odakaara Maarimuthu
Kaadhal Desam - Ennai Kaanavillaiye (Excellent. I love this)
Kaadhal Desam - Thendrale
Thanks and Regards

Since we are talking about instruments,
can some one tell which instrument is it that IR used in the interludes of Vaanathu Thaaragiyo (Poonthottam) - this is the first interlude... sounded like a flute but more shrill, in this case it blended beautifully with a flute piece.
He used the same instrument in the beginning of Vayasupulla in Annan...
STS, I guess IR has used Shenoy extensively too...
There are few songs where he's used sax beautifully too...
- From: Bharath (@ oneway.convex.com)
on: Thu Jul 19 18:18:44 EDT 2001
ha ha ! STS I dont take it as a challenge and I do see ur psycology in asking me for sample list is because. there r suddenly 2-3 rahman guys who r talking abt rahman using flute! you r surprised by that fact and its not immdly obvious to u the songs we r talking abt! I used to have same opinion of IR's attributes when i hear ppl talk abt it and when i actually checkt it out I will notice it!
Okay! From my experience of watching videos of rahmans dubai concert (although those were simulated) I will list rahmans flute songs and good ones too
1) mellisayee - Mr. Romeo
2) thannerai kathalikkum - Mr. Romeo
3) ennavale ennavale - Kaadhalan
4) thee thee - thiruda thiruda
5) putham puthu bhoomi vendum - tt
6) Poorkalam - tenali
7)Malargale - Love birds
8) Narumugaye (oh! that seducing starting bit)- iruvar--but only lil bit in this song!
anyway pick any random song of ARR there is a good chnace that there is atleast 1 sec worth of flute in it! he loves it so much and he does use it a lot!
well these just came from the top of my head. I cud look for more! see the point is, why my posting appears partly to agree with u! is bcoz I was an IR fan for a decade (much the same period i am listening to ARR , i should'nt say fan bcoz "yaaro" is watching!:-)) so i have listened eexhaustively IR's peak life. agreed nowadays I listen to IR only after listening someones opinion on it! but i will certainly make it a point to listen. I recorded the song from "lajja" the kaun daggar song! it was good. But frankly nowadays ARR impresses me more often than IR does thats all! :-) its a personal opinion!
