Latest News as of 23.11:60:876 GMT:
BABA would probably be released by the end of the year. Casettes may or not be released. If at all released it would also be probably released by the end of the year, that too may or may not be before or after the movie...
(i guess i have covered all elements of the random set.)
did anyone notice the "3-patti NAAMAM" watermark on the BABA coupon ??

hey viewers baba songs will not be released any day of this week,
You may be feeling that there is too much noise in the media about Baba, Rajnikanth's forthcoming release, but for his fans today it is a case of the exact opposite. They are complaining that they are not hearing anything, especially the film's songs. The much-hyped film's songs which were supposed to be released on 25 July was postponed to today. And today too, the tune was no different. It has been again put-off. To which date? Heaven knows. Or perhaps, only A R Rahman, the film's musician. He is the man blamed (at least by Rajni's fans) for the delay in the release of the film's cassettes.
Many of them who had thronged the various theatres today, where the cassettes were supposed to be delivered, were seething. They were particularly scathing on Rahman who they alleged was deliberately delaying in delivering the musical score. In this context, it should be pointed that the knee-jerkily emotional Rajni fans had gone to the extent of stoning Rahman's house after they felt that Padayappa's songs were not up to the mark. In the event, it is not surprising then that Rahman is seen to be playing an off-key note. But only some of the fans were ready to go beyond the surface. And they feel the whole exercise of issuing coupons and then releasing the cassettes is what is to blame.'It is a gimmick to make more money. Those of us who paid the money are being made to run around,'fumed one such fan at the Albert Theatre today. For the sake of late tuners it should be said, Baba's cassettes were not directly released in the shops as is the case with every other film. The marketing men behind the film decided to issue 'advance coupons' to those wanting to buy the cassette of the film.
Consequently, on 19 July, the coupons became available for sale in the theatres where Baba is scheduled to be released. As it happened, within minutes of the counters being opened, the coupons, priced at Rs.50 each, were sold out in a jiffy. (The fans had queued up for the coupons from the previous midnight itself). The coupon-holders were told that the cassettes would be released on 25 July and they would get preference for booking the tickets as and when the film is released.
As per rough estimates, at least 10 lakh coupons had been sold out. (In other words, the producers had made a cool Rs.5 crore without actually selling anything). Anyway, the coupon-holders were a disappointed lot when they thronged the theatres on 25 July. They were greeted with a board succinctly telling that the cassette release had been put off to 28 July. But today it was not available for public consumption. However, as it happened, there are Baba posters all over the city saying that the cassette sales were on.
Interestingly, several cassette shops in the city are saying that they are also now likely to get the cassettes for sale on the same day as the coupon-holders. So, those who braved the weather and stood in the queues to get the coupons now look fobbed off.
Elsewhere, with the cassette release itself being delayed, there are now speculations that whether the film release may also be delayed. As of now, the film is scheduled to hit the theatres on 15 August.
Sources in the industry however, downplay the chances of the film being delayed saying that the film is totally complete. The songs too have been completed. It is only the fact that there had been such a huge demand for the cassettes that it was delayed (meaning more cassettes had to be produced). At any rate, for those fans who had been hoping to listen to Rajni film music, it has been now a case of facing it.

Audio Awaited!
By Moviebuzz
Who is responsible for the muck up over the delay in the Baba audio release? Last Sunday those who had purchased the coupons for the audio rushed to the theatres, which threw up their hands. Their argument was that the audio was still under production, while Rajni fans blamed A.R.Rahman, for this delay. Not to forget that last time some of these fans stoned Rahman’s studio cum residence after the release of Padayappa cassette as they thought that the songs were not good enough!
So this time too the blame is put on poor Rahman. But we understand that the real reason for the delay is that the audio company and the superstar had difference of opinion over money matters. R.B.Chowdary purchased the audio along with a Coimbatore based film financier Tirupur Subramaniam for a rumoured Rs 3 crores. Later the income tax department raided both of them. In the meantime Rajnikanth promised them that through theatres he would be able to sell at least 2 lakh cassettes, but the response to this novel marketing had been lukewarm. Even if Rajni fans buy 5 cassettes each, the audio company will not be able to recover its cost, and so the rumour now is that the company is asking for a cut in the price. The latest we hear is that the audio will be released on August 2, Friday through not only through theatres but also retail outlets. So the fans who purchased the coupons are taken for a ride for sure!
