Somebody Serious about this question ?
If the Q is about singing **Tamil** songs with good **Tamil** pronounciation., Then IMO, Chitra is way-way-way ahead of Kavitha.

IMF:
Kavita Krishnamurthy is in the process of making an album of songs - most probably in Thamizh - with her husband L Subramaniam.
Anyway - as per Srinath's so called "logic" -
Chithra has sung more songs for IR than Kavitha, so she is better than Kavitha. On similar lines Chithra is better than PS, as per his "esteemed" opinion

p.suseela anyday better than chitra...(listen to all the old sings...even the not so old songs like kannukku mai azhagu, poo kodiyin punnagai...no body can pronounce tamizh as she does., ofcourse chitra is better than kavita if you talk about tamizh songs....but she does not have that classical quality in her voice that kavitha has...ofcourse kavitha's pronounciation is a little too bad...chitra's voice is plain simple sweet and IMO that chitra is better off at high pitches than kavitha...
i wish all three of them would sing a haunting melody together...that will be a great hit..

Recently I was listening to Mudhal Mariyaadhai songs....after a long time! Chitra evLO azhagaa paadiyirukkaanga "andha nilaavathaan naan"! Especially when she sings
"....kaiyirukku kaavalukku venaamaiyaa veeraappu" - konjudhu andhak kural! She beats Kavitha just in the sweetness of her voice alone. No doubt. About singing ability - I haven't heard Kavitha much, So I can't comment.
LV, your comment on "Srinath's logic" was surely a (my) rib tickler!
BTW, Srinath & Raj,
I take my comments (which I made in a different thread way long time ago) back on the song "Azhagiya Kanne" from 'Udhirip PookkaL'.
I heard the song the other day - and to my surprise - found myself captivated by the interludes without feeling the old feeling of 'not having continuity' which I always felt when I grew up listening to it! The parts which used to irritate me in the past didn't anymore! It sure is a great number by IR.

i think that kavitha Krishnamurthy has a superb voice, one that lifts your spirits in the deepest darkest momments. Being one of her number 1 fans, i find every song sung by the Kalakaar to be excellent. After listening to her hit songs in mohabbat, i found Kavita's voice could tackle any type of tone, whether it be high or low.I think that kavita has the fresh, magnificent voice of 2000, and she should not be undetermined at any level. Her voice continues to improve as the years go by. Carry on with the good work Kavita!!!!!!!

Yeah we agree to Saaylish, says didi Rouhee, " I found Kavitaji very enlightening in her hit film songs "khamoshi" where she really showed her true potential in posessing a very superb voice, a voice enchanting and full of magic. Carry on Kavita, we support you, anybody out their who says otherwise ignore them, you are worthy of the praise after all your hard work

Chithra has a lovely voice, anybody able to sing songs in different languages is capable to do well in any others, but i believe Kavita is a cut above the rest, even above her main rival Alka. Alka gets to sing most of the songs these days, especially those numbers that require little effort, or are low in tone, (boring ones in other words) poor Kavita gets the more harder, better and tasteful songs that only her magnificent voice can tackle. I think that Chithra is good in her voice, but Kavitha is above all the best in her line, especially throughout the whole industry. May god have her sing for many many years to come

Chitra is the best in South India and Kavitha the best in North India. So in this way both are equal, no doubt!!!.....

I can't believe that there are people who think Kavitha Krishnamoorthy is a better singer than Chithra. Her pronunciation of Tamil is horrible. Even singers like Sadhna Sargam, Mahalakshmi, Asha Bhonsle etc. make an effort to get their pronunciation right, even if it is far from perfect. Kavitha, on the other hand, sings as if she's intentionally trying to mispronounce Tamil words. I wouldn't mind the mispronunciation if her voice sounded good, but in my opinion, even the tone of her voice is really very poor - or it could be said that it is at the other extreme - too sweet. She has a very shrill-timbred voice. Chithra on the other hand, may not be perfect at pronouncing certain words, but her pronunciation is definitely far better than Kavitha's and the tone of her voice is almost perfect.
But then again, maybe I shouldn't criticise Kavitha because her voice is suited more to Hindi film music. Most female North Indian singers have a voice similar to Kavitha's, and strangely, it sounds perfect in Hindi songs, but not in Tamil songs, not just because of the pronunciation, but I think there is a certain feel that we associate with Hindi music that is different from what we associate with Tamil music. For example, it sounds strange when Srinivas sings Hindi songs although he is one of my favourite singers in Tamil!! (I can't give a female equivalent of that example, I'm afraid, but I hope you understand what I mean.)

Vani Jairam is far superior to Chitra-KK rolled into one. In my humble opinion. Be it Hindi or Tamil.
