I was really impressed when Roja came out and I kept looking out for such impressive release after that. But to date, so far non of his film has any impact of Roja. There may be some good ones along the way but that I can get it from other TFM MDs. It\'s really disappointing that he has never matched any song compared to Chinna Chinna Aasai. For the last 7 years or so I keep yearning but to no avail. So many of his albums are of mediocre level. I really would like to know what caused ARR\'s downfall?
1) Trying too much in other fields and ignoring Tamil films?
2) Trying to fuse in too much western pop/rock and making listeners irritated?
3) Trying to be both Mozart and Michael Jackson of India?
4) Using so many different singers and not having any identity?
5) Again infusing too many English words to make it more hype?
6) Concentrating alot on sound quality and not giving importance to musical quality?
7) Or just limited talent?
It\'s really heart-ching to see someone I used to like go down like that.

What Caused ARR\'s Downfall...
Only one reason. He takes long time to compose for a film.Cause of this shankar left.Bharathiraja left.Kathir left.Rajini got insult with the telephone tunes given by ARR in baba.He is searching for HJ or IR.Only Manirathnam is remaining.
He should learn from HJ and YSR how to compose fast.

Because of the crap albums like parasuram, udaya,KV etc.. he fell down.
What else?.

HJ and YSR maybe fast.. but their compositions r no where near ARR's. ARR is the pride of Asia, and the time he takes for his compositions shouldn't be considered that much when the product is highly commendable. ARR rulez!

1) Trying too much in other fields and ignoring Tamil films?
If I was an MD, I would want to occasionally branch out from Indian movies. Why not do a Chinese film or a Lord of the Rings stage adaptation if offered?
2) Trying to fuse in too much western pop/rock and making listeners irritated?
This started with ARR? IR did plenty of western style stuff. Besides, since when was this bad?
3) Trying to be both Mozart and Michael Jackson of India?
I don't believe this is true. ARR has done many beat oriented songs, but he's also done melodic songs like the ones in Rhythm and Chhodo More Baiyyan from Zubeidaa.
4) Using so many different singers and not having any identity?
What's wrong with this? Better than using Mano and Swarnalatha in every song :-)
5) Again infusing too many English words to make it more hype?
If he does this, it is most likely at the director's request.
6) Concentrating alot on sound quality and not giving importance to musical quality?
It's not an either/or situation. ARR has many albums that are good compositions and well engineered. I'm sure H. Sridhar does a lot of the hard work in that department.
7) Or just limited talent?
No, I don't believe this. All composers have their mediocre albums and down periods. I liked Boys and was one of the few that liked Parasuram. Udaya wasn't very good. Tehzeeb in Hindi was good. E20U18 was alright, and Kangalal Kaithu Sei has one or two good tracks, though overall it is not strong.

ARR IS THE ONLY MUSIC DIRECTOR IN INDIA WHO GOT SO MUCH HYPE FOR GIVING REPITITIVE TUNES,COPIED TUNES AND TAKING TOO MUCH TIME FOR COMPOSING.HOW LONG CAN HE SUSTAIN IT,THE TRUE COLORS OF HIM HAS TO COME OUT,HE SURVIVED INITIALLY TILL PEOPLE THOUGHT HIS TUNES WERE GENUINE,BUT TODAY WITH THE EXPOSURE OF MUSIC IN THE NET,IN TV ARR IS GETTING CAUGHT EASILY,SO PEOPLE ARE LOSING INTEREST,NATURALLY WHEN HE TAKES TIME TO GIVE COPIED TUNES AND EVERY DAMN PERSON KNOWS IT IS COPIED WHY WILL U GO BACK OF ARR,THIS IS THE REASON FOR HIS DOWNFALL

1. He was over-hyped (something like our IT stock market 3 years ago) and he made everyone to expect more but failed to deliver
2. His music is much predictable
3. He thinks the techno beats alone would do the trick and he is not creative when composing his tunes.
4. He takes a lot of time to produce average tunes
5. He is inconsistant. If directors are dumb, he just gives them crappy music and get away with it. He doesn't justify the money that he is getting paid.
6. For the name and fame he has got, he should be a bit more original. He is loosing his fame by being repetitive and lifting tunes.
7. And finally he is clearly running out of ideas

Only people like MUSICLOVER and x say that it was copied.. but for the matter of fact I dont have time to see where it was copied.. If i like the song, why not enjoy it and leave it at that..

By saying this I am not supporting copying of tunes, if there is a good amount of freshness bought to them, I dont care.

I think his assistant music directors contribute more to his albums. With Praveen Mani, the chances are very thin to come up with a hit.

Time?
There is no doubt that ARR is not what he was, but that is inevitable with any creative person.
His songs, although enjoyable still, sound a little too familiar. Familiarity breeds contempt.

M4E,
I guess what the ppl here are cribbing about is FAMILIARITY with somebody else composition not his own!!
that kind-a familiarity does not breed contempt, it brings in a feel of hatred..

MiL, what do you mean? I said ARR's style of music has become familiar over the years, so that unless he changes drastically his songs are likely to appear familiar to the listener's ears. As to who copies whom is a matter of opinion, so I will let it go outside the off stump.

ARRs downfall is due to his weakness in acquiring classical music knowledge. He has completed one full circle for the past 10 years. Now he is churning out tunes which are repetious.
