Hi there,
Both singers are good but I think Hariharan is more versatile and expressive.

Hi!
i think it is too early to
compare UK and HH. it is
bcos both of them have not
got enough songs to prove
their versatality. their
singing styles are also different. my personal
opinion is that those who have heard of UK's carnatic or non-filmy songs will
be bowled over.

I agree with Balaji because Unni I feel has better adaptive voice compared to HH.

In mid-tempo songs like "Vennilavae", "Vanna Nilavae", or "Minnal oru Kodi" HH is at his best. In almost everything I have heard by UK, I have loved UK. So it just comes down to what one prefers.

Here is the choice for you to decide:
In 'Unnidathil Ennai Koduthen' UK and HH sang the same song.
Etho Oru Paatu...
IMO, UK is better than KK in that song because UK voice has the 'Gambeeram'. What is your opinion?

IMO, KK voice suits for song that based on 'Eakam' For example, Oh vandhathu Penna?.. Vanna Nilave Vanna Nilave.. His voice suits very well with this type of song.

Hi there: Unni K is a best carnatic singer. he is very good on live concerts but H.Haran is not.

If both UK and HH were to sit down and give Carnatic and North Indian concerts respectively, not sure how they would match up. But as far as light music is concerned, *for me*, there is no contest - with his mesmerising voice, versatility and a singing style that goes straight to the heart, Hariharan wins easily....!

Dear Friends,
I feel UK is better than HH.If you listen to UK you can clearly feel the ease with which he touches the high pitches. But IMO HH strains and struggles at High pitches. Also the only MD who has tapped their talent to the fullest is ARR,who I guess is the best person to judge

UK has a more soft and subtle voice and he maintains this in all his songs but HH can do both soft and rough. Check out his rendition of minnal oru kodi and ennai thaalata varuvalo..two different styles exist in the 2 songs. Besides, HH can do fast numbers well like konja naal, romeo attam pottal and telephone mani poll unlike UK.

Hi folks,
While both the singers are good, I prefer HH because he can sing the type of both melody as well as dubbanguthu variety songs, a bit better suited than UK. UK is like PBS and AMraja of yesteryears. But both cannot come to the range of TMS or the great SPB.
In Priyamudam SPB sang 'bharathiku kannamma' , the same song was sung by UK also , pl.check out for the result. SPB has scored over others. Reg. HH he is good but he cannot sing like SPB - rambam bam arambam in MMKRajan - raja kaiya vacha in aboorva sagoodaragal, etc. There are many to add.
But HH is bit ahead of UK in the race now.

Have you guys heard Unni's 'Dabbangutthu' song from "INIYAVALE" - Manjal Manjalaa Malarai Vachu? It's in the Ragam Sindhubairavhi and he does a fantastic job with it. I noramlly hate songs of that kind, but this one, I'm really pleased with.....It's a copy of an old Sivaji song and Vadivelu says "Intha Paata engeyo ketamaathiri irukkuthu" and Prabhu replies "Adhaandaa"....
My personal view is that they are both brilliant....Nice voices and styles. Unni is now on World Tour, so he's not singing as much....

Please listen to Hariharan's "Sun ri sakhi" from the movie "Humse hain muqqaballa". It's the Hindi version of UK's "Ennavalleh adi ennavalleh", and then compare the two singers. They did equally well though I found HH less strained in the high notes. Also listen to "Ajooba", the Hindi version of "Poovukkull ollithirukkum" from Jeans. HH is more expresssive in the Hindi version than UK is. UK is impeccable as a classical singer, but when he sings film songs, that he is trying to sound sweet and romantic often comes across as too contrived.

P Sundram: Extremely Good point. I too notied that ARR gives HariH, Unni's Tamil songs, for the Hindi versions and the comparison is only that of voice and style - They are both equally good. In the Hindi version of Ennavale, HH has improvised a bit and has added some of his trade mark Ghamaks...An excellent was of expressing the melody. Also, for Poovukkul, he sings beautifully. Somehow, in his rendition of Hindi songs, his improvisations are more. Even in Uyire Uyire - Thuhire, he's added some subtle Gamakams.
HH tends to choose when to 'strain' high notes and you'll notice that this is done in some songs, while in others, like Uyire from Iniyavale, he sings the high notes with no problems. Unni has that Sweet voice, which isn't as manly in high pitches....Never mind, they are both excellent.
By the way, I'm going to see Unni's concert in London, on Sunday....Can't wait.....I've seen his live videos, but hopefully, I'll get to meet him and get an autograph too.....Sorry for the digression....I've been looking forward to this for ages.

Did anyone listen to 'nee kaatru naan maram'from
Nilavae vaa??Hariharan is at his worst-i couldnt make out what hes singing. Should he has to stretch and pull all the lines and words he sings???Chitra is the only saving grace. The song is supposed to have very nice lyrics by Vmuthu(yes some of the lines are good-the ones chitra sings.
Hari need not have to sing every song in the ghazal fashion. Personally i felt Unni menon or unni krishnan would have done a much better job

Geetha,
Are you serious? You're going for an Unni K. concert? Oh, I would've given anything to be there! I'm crazy about that guy's voice and singing. Is this a carnatic concert, because I heard that he doesn't sing film tunes on stage? Tell me all about it when you get back. Have Fun!!

ramki i felt the same way about that song ...... when we were getting that song for our music group to sing on stage ....the singer couldnt get the lyrics because it is not clearly understood ...........but i know that unnikrishnan would have been great in that song .......sometimes HH takes it a bit too much when he sings .....and it tend to be a minus point about him ..but also we cant blame him for all the mistakes ....the MD has to look after that and make correct changes as they are required ........i mean he is the one who select the singers ...so he should be able to get him to sing the song as he would have liked it ... not as how the singer wants to sing it ............

one of the best songs of UK is "rajanodu rani vandhu serum" from sathi leelavathi. how soft and melodious his voice is!! i think this was his first song with IR too. HH has a tendency to give his hindustani tinge to tamil songs, thus resulting in streching and not pronouncing properly. this was evident in nilave vaa, as was pointed out. also, in udayatha vennilaa, from priyam. did anyone hear his album kaadhal vedham??

Hi
If you hear Unnik's Manamvirumbhudhe from NN,u can see that he can sing in high pitch without any
strain.
His voice has Ghabhiram.
Unnikrishnan means Great!great!!great!!!

hope many are familiar with "Meetadha Oru Veenai" by Hariharan. It is a beautiful song from "Poonthottam" which is totally different from all the songs of TFM I have heard so far (including IR). The swara sancharam in that song is extrmely good. HH is really amazing. but ,Sujatha has not done full justice to that song. Her voice is not admirable. This if compared with the "Manam virumbudhey" is a better rendition.

Muriali Shankar - Meetadha Oru Veenai is sing by HH and MAHALAKSHMI, a newcomer, not Sujatha....
