Which is the last movie by IR with all songs
that can be classified as super-hit (by IR standards)
(not all songs are hit in Kaadalukku mariyaadai)
What other movies(MD:IR) had all songs hit in recent times..
Singaaraavelan..?
EEramaana rojavE..?
Why is it that the lyrics in these songs are more
memorable (hummable) (not for lyrics but for tunes)..?
TFM fans' views please..

Even during ARR's moment of glory, IR had an indisputable hit in Marubadiyum.

Naags
How can you say KM's all songs a hit.. do you know the standard that IR has kept himself...I guess Ramani is looking for an album of the stature of Udhayageedham, Idhayathai Thirudadhae, AgniNaksh..,Veera, RajadhiRaaja order. Sure KM has got a couple of fabulous songs and Devadhai, KaalaPaani, RaamanAbdullah and all the new movies doesn't seem to have all songs being superhit. Oru MounaRaagam casette..a pocketlae vachu padhira padithiyan naan, but IR is not producing that kind of scintillating albums any longer, hope my waiting will be fruitful someday!

Guru (mal) was produced in 1997 about this time. All the songs were of a super quality bringing them all as hits for those who like orchestral type songs. I dn't know if the songs really went well the Kerala audience, since in the entire India these people are more choosy about having pure carnatic base in mallu songs.
1997 was a good Raja comeback year with maybe 70%hits. 1998 not so good. I think mr. ilaiyraja should do more carnatic based music than orchestra or techsongs.

The last time I enjoyed all songs in a single movie was in Devar Magan. Each and every song in that movie is befitting this legend of a man. Since then..... I'm waiting. But haven't given up hope, yet. Poonthottam and Dharma sounds promising.

What about " MOGA MULL" ? Even though the songs are not commercially hit, I feel that IR's Karnatic hits in that movie is comparably good.

Friends, thanks for quoting so many movies
I was looking for movies like Devar Magan, Yejaman, Veera,Singaravelan, Chinnathambi etc, where if you purchase the cassete you don't have to worry to some junk song inbetween some hit songs. Only Raja (ARR produced only very few of that type) has done it in so many movies
and not only that people remember more of the song than
the music (rather the music is in background while tune
is the one which hooks everyone (Someone help with appropriate word ;-)) These songs are played at every village/public functions.. Recently Vairamuthu told in TV that the songs can be considered hit not by
a) cassete/CD sales
b) TV broadcast ratings
c) beautiful lyrics
but only if the songs are played in every nook and corner
(villages included) even 6 months after movie release.
That way Chinnathambi, Yejamaan are the recent all-songs-hit movies. KM cannot claim place here.
Yes .. Singaaravelan, Devarmagan too fall into that category. For e.g. in Sindubhairavi you can't listen to
'thanni thotti thedi vantha' after listening to those
wonderful other songs.
Long live IR..

Hi,
I was listening (in fact, I am) to songs from swAtimutHyam (telugu) {*ing Kamal and Radhika}, of course music by the maestro. Then, I went to the IR sites to see whether he got a national award for this!! To my surprise, he didn't. I am curious who got the award that year (want to compare that with IR's swAtimuThyam to check the credentials of the selectors!!). Can anybody help me on this!!
Also, I find all songs in this film terrific. Wow!! great singing by SPB and SJ. Another movie in this category is swarnakamalam (again Telugu). It too has got great songs...
IR's and K.Vishwanath's combination alwyas produced terrific music. I wish they work together again to produce another swAtimutHyam or other....

IR and K.Viswanath were supposed to work in subhasankalpam(paasavalai ,in tamil , *ing kamal), but finally maragathamani did the music for it. not that impressive though. i certainly agree with srikanth that swathimuthyam(chippikkul muthu in tamil) is a great piece. also, saagara sangamam(salangai oli).

Hi guys, Im new to this site. Incidentally, one of my close frenz told me bout this site. I AM A DIE - HARD FANATIC OF IR and I have in principle NOT to hear any of ARR's songs (except those that are Carnatic based).
Words, mediums and even the net is not enough to describe this Maestros achievements.
Long Live IR.
Care to get in touch with me reg. all Raja's songs from Annakkili - most welcome.

Balaji et al. IR as you know had many mnay hits but each and every songs from these three (Vamsi, K Vishwanath, and Maniratnam) directors deserve special mention. You also provided another list which is probably correct but not all Tamil IR's were dubbed into Telugu. So I am not familiar with all Tamil directors music. Many other directos in Telugu collaborated with IR but there above mentioned directors films had unbelieveable and awesome music.

I agree with Venkat (as I have the same backgroun as him). Those three combos were deadly. The telugu film industry lost three good directors (atleast two -- Vishwanath and Vamsi) once IR's charm lost (I hate to admit it!!). Notable being Vamsi. I will describe the combos as:
vamsi - IR : very innovative and experimental
mani - IR : western style
vishwanath - IR : mostly classical music
Each one of the combo is unique in itself.
--srikanth
p.s. I wish vamsi makes a good comeback (ofcourse with IR) to show the second grade directors a way out!!

I guess Veera was the last 'All' hit movie(tamil).
Devar magan,Yejaman all are on previous year or so I guess. The Runtime hit(Patti thoti) was Chinna thambi. Man! That's long time man.

In Telugu, IR always gave something special for Vamsy because he always, consistently went to IR. I wonder if Vamsi has made any movie with a MD other than IR - as far as I know, he is the only guy to have worked with only IR and no one else, maybe that's why IR gave him good stuff. And man, he knew how to picturise his songs - look at "Keeravani" from Anveshana - excellent picturisation which cannot fail to make one nostalgic of IR of the early eighties.
