Hi all,
Have you all wondered any song by raja which is psychedelic....This is a concept used by an english band called "PINK FLOYD"....
You feel you are floating in air and some kind of crazy thoughts come to your mind on listening to them...You feel very hollow basically and of course you get addicted to the song.
One example is in TFM is Yenge Nimmathi...by MSV....
The best ones by IR that I can recall are the following...
1.Yenge Sellum Intha paathai.....Sethu(the best)
2.Sundari Kannal Oru seithi....Thalapathi(The BGMs)
3.Pani Vizhum Iravu...Mouna ragam(I like this one)
4.Adi Aathadi....Kadalora Kavithaigal(not all of it ,though)
5....lot more
Guys keep adding song list u think are psyche and affect you...No IR ARR fight plz....
Arun

Arun Ice-Cream..
your definition for "psychedelic" can be subjectif rite...
some people my be floating in air by listening to some hardcore underground metal rock songs....some will be floating with the above mentioned songs....
and i dun think that PINK FLYOD should be creditted for this...example...i will like floating in air..when i listen to "perhaps..perhaps...perhaps" song..from some one older than PF..for sure....rite?

Psychedelic tunes that make you take a mental trip..that makes you hallucinate has a lot to do with the tune and the singer's voice. Vaseegara was one example which had a great tune with a soul and a haunting voice of Bombay Jayashree's. That made it a great combo and the entire song was haunting everytime you hear it. The best thing is the way it starts off..till that moment everything seems to be normal and the very second the tune starts off you would be silent, spellbound glued to the song.

'Yaaro Yaar Yaaro..' from Ulaasam is another one (IR sung it , KR is the MD)is another one under-rated number that has such qualities.

Arun,
Interesting thoughts from you.
One song with a weird effect on me was "Thaalaatudhe vaanam". I heard most of IR songs before seeing the picturisation and this song used to give me a feel of travelling in a bullock cart along scenic countryside complete with fields and pools. I was very curious to see how the director picturised it - I discovered it was sung on a rowboat sailing on a lake - different transport, but sorta similar environment :)

The tune of Idhu Sangeetha Thirunaala/Ennai thaalaata varuvaala gives you a feeling of lying down in a swinging hammock with eyes closed. Observe particularly when the tune changes at the start of the second half of the charanam("Poovellam ival pola azhagillai" part).

In the movie 'Sethu', towards the end, Sethu escapes from the mental asylum and Abitha is getting married. Sethu enters her house. Sethu, who is recovering from a mental disorder, finds the house psychedelic. There are signs of a disrupted wedding and signs of death. The BGM very aptly captures this confusion in his mind as he looks for her. The whole effect is truly psychedelic. Wonder why the BGMs of Sethu hasn't yet found its way to SOTD section.
In Manasukul Mathappu, Prabu's girl friend plays the electric guitar and gets electrocuted!!!! and again the chords turn psychedelic.

Pink Floyd songs are sparse in lyrics and heavy on instrumentals that create the eerie feeling.
For example, the song "One of these days" has a single line:
"One of these days
I'm going to cut you into little pieces"
that's it for about 6 minutes of the song!!
our songs have to contain a pallavi, anupallavi & 2 charanams with preludes interludes & postludes(?), keeping in mind that the hero & heroine will be dancing around trees in Sathanur Dam.
Saying that, songs like "naan oru muttalunga" & "poda poda punnakku" leaves me with a hollow feeling in my head.

Was 'o ponmaanguil singaaramaai' also originally in Malayalam? Thats one of my fave songs and I had very high regard for SAR because of that one song.
What's the original Malayalam film called and whats the equivalent of this song called?

Karthik, this info was given to me long back by producer Thakaali srinivasan who happens to be my collegemate. I only remember that Mohanlaal was the hero and Mal film. I don't remember the Mal film name.
Interestingly SAR has used 'Oh ponmaankuil' tune in a recent film 'Aval varuvaala' Ajit-Simran starrer ('Vandadu enna vaanavil thaana' sung by HH).
I like 'Poon thenrale nee paadivaa' song from MMathaappu, a haunting melody.

Mythila please dont accuse anyone of copy if you do not have the proper information.
All the songs in MM are original.
MM is remake of 'thalavattom' a Mohanlal film with karthika and lizy. You can listen to the songs here and verify yourself

Nazir, it was not an accusation. It was just a casual statement. Probably I am wrong.
Anyways, I like the 'Poonthenrale' and 'Oh ponmankuil ' songs from MM.
