Today there are life threats to music composers. What will happen to the great country if ARR is missing from the music scene? I am getting very anxious. On the positive side, do you think old music will become popular once again?

a point to be noted is that recently a famous MD received a threat from a terrorist who was nabbed. i shudder to think what will happen to this great country if that MD is missing from music scene. he is SAR.

Is this thread necessary? There is already a thread separately for IR and ARR, regarding their new albums. And it would be better to have these sideline topics also discussed in the same DF. This is IMO.

bb,
I will certainly miss S.A. Raajkumar if he were gone. At least once a year we get a Sooryavamsam-calibre movie from him. BTW, this is not an ironic post.
Coming to the topic. Yes, it would be a loss without ARR, Karthi Raaja, even Sangeetharaajan. Anyone who has given me one memorable song is worth to have had than not. So can we hope for more people in the music arena rather than wish them all away please?

That is exactly the point Lottu. Very important points: 1,3,4,5. Most important point is no.1. Vandemataram III, it is like reminding India that ARR is the greatest star. SAR, still doing music!

IMO, the title of this discussion should be "What would film music be without ARR". As pointed out earlier, what has he done for India? Film music would be losing a golden star who has changed the face of TFM.

I agree with Velaiyathavan. Nothing will happen if ARR is not there. Somebody else would come with similar fusion music. Not a big deal. Vanga sandaikku :-)))

What if ARR disappears from TFM?
1. Some village-pamara-tamil folks wont be able to get introduced to some popular western numbers and music-styles!!
2. Anu malik, Deva and other such MDs will have to do much more work to find nice songs to copy from
3. Mani Ratnam would come up with a music-less (no music!) movie!
4. Next shankar's movie will have a hi-tech music director imported from US/Europe/Australia!
and.....
5. IR would make a comeback!!
(How come no one has said that IR might have a come-back? Yaarukum nambikai illaya?? :) ippo sure-a vaanga sandaiku :) )

1) Does this mean only ARR has the capacity to introduce such western music varieties to Villagers. Your outlook on this looks so constrained. Throughout India, there are so many Music colleges, where youngsters are learning so many different styles of music. If not ARR somebody else will come up with exploting those styles. And those Village folks would be able to listen. If they dont get exposed to, what is the grave loss India is going to face?
2, 3, and 4 will be deleted if my answer is satisfactory to u. 5) As IR has chosen to deal with only western Classical and Carnatic, the position will be the same.

forgot to mention one important point.
Didn't ARR appear in the way as I mentioned in the point number 1.

Critic,
I'll sum up a popular perception by a section of DFers
- if IR does it, it is "taking western music to masses", and
- if ARR does it, it is "inspiration", and
- if deva does it, its "copy"
(thanks to bb! i dont want to labelled as a copycat for this summary)

1.The Indian Junta would've missed 'sindhanayai thoondum' padalgal like Humma..Humma.., chikku bukku rayile.., jumbalakka...
2. We would've missed the "thondu" of the great Suresh Peters.
3. Tamil would've been spared from Hariharan and Unni Krishnan.
4. The psychatrists will get less number of patients who are confused after listening to TFM.
5. VM will be writing songs for DDI programs like 'Vayalum Vazhvum", Manai Matchi etc., set to tune by TR Pappa and/or Veda.
6. Rajni will have better voices to sing for him in the movies.
7. Many of the TFM fans would not have been confused and lost their sense of Music.

Vimal:
The twists associated with your points:
1) Songs that make you to move your body parts by parts, like Kaka Valippu, Paey Pidicha state, etc., where one is not in control of himself.
2) Frankly I don't know who is Suresh Peter???
3) This is due to the fact ARR is from Kerala.
An additional point: Songs like Mustafa Mustafa...
(reflecting his attachment to his religion).
4) no comments.
5) Well VM could have been used by Deva or other second grade MDs.
6) Yes it is directly related to the point of (3).
7) This point is directly inferable from point number (1).

guys, it is bad enough to talk about someone not being there, and this thread has degenerated into a comedy???? this is awful. as udhaya said, i wouldn't wish loss of any MD. vimal, ur comments are definitely not funny, but are extremely condemnable.

bb - Good that you are not in the condemning mood. :-))
But fear not, all these insults are not going to take an iota of fame, popularity, what-have-you, from ARR. Who was it who said that it is only the fruit-bearing mango-tree that takes the most beatings? :-))
ARR fans are still going to buy his albums and contribute to his popularity.
HCIR fans will continue buying his albums and contribute to his success.
Discerning listeners of TFM will still buy some of his albums, irrespective of views from both sides.
And so forth.

bb,
Please spare Me. Theriya thanama pannitten.. Please forgive me....
This is a discussion forum, where people exchange their views, just like a group of friends sharing their likes and dislikes. Try to take it in the right stride. There are bound to be some "Masalas" here and there. Do you think ARR will refuse to compose music after going through the TFM forums?
Or IR will refuse just because people call him "Mottai"?

vimal, i made that pointed accusation at u because u had done a similar thing earlier, about kamal, if i am right. of course one can talk like pals, but a limit should be there. see what prompted ramki to start politeness and this forum thread, may be then u will appreciate my point better.
cheers.

Hey bb,
I still stand by my statement of Kamal, impolite it may sound or not. I don't think I'm the only wild animal here, in this herd of Herbivores. Looking at some of the postings by the so called intellectuals, any sane man is sure to lose his politeness.

that gives me an idea why ARR takes long time to compose songs - it is due to the intermittent powercuts in TN/India :-)

It is ludicrous that a Rajini fanatic or should i say a lunatic, should threaten an MD for a bad score. Well if rajini is so popular why would Music be a botheration? His film should do well without anything...(Thalaivar nadika vendam vanthu ninna pothum). I would not even want to think of such an possibility coz if its even a lightboy his life is worth more than the 3 hours of Masala.
If such a thing were to happen India would loose a musical genius..and kollywood would go into oblivion, as was the case before the regime of ARR.

A music scene without ARR?...India without ARR?...The world without ARR?...my World without ARR?...a thought I shudder. I fell in love with his music the moment I heard "Puthu Vellai Malai" from Roja. And the delicate and aesthetic "Maarghali Poove"...what can I say to the faboulous "Puttham Puthu Boomi Vendum"...I mean this is the Musical Midas that practically revolutionised the Indian Music Industry single handedly!....Than Goodness for Allah Raaka Rahman!
