I really love Bhavatha's voice for the sheer unsophisticated nature. No doubt! She is Maestro's daughter. Yet, i think she has inherited the nature and simplicity in her voice, from her dad. After so many years there are debates about Ilays voice. No wonder Bhavtha is in the limelight regarding her voice, for good or for bad! The voice is different! Thats it!
There may be better talents! So what?? Lets forget that she is Ilays daughter! If she had been anyone else, too, I would have listened to her songs.
What do you guys think about Swarnalatha's voice??

Bavitarini dindnt do a good work in
Raman abdulla (en vettu jannal). she
was good chandraleka songs.
She dosent have universal voice. So its
all about how and which song she is used.

To kumar:
I have heard "en veetu jannal" in Raman Abdullah and the song is excellent. I don't find anything wrong in Bhavatharini's voice. It is just a different kind of voice, that's it. As Gopal said, if people can tolerate Swarnalatha's and L.R.Eswari's voice, why is Bowtha's voice being criticized? Is it because she is the Maestro's daughter? When sons and daughters of actors or actresses and brought into filmdom without any acting talents, why is that tamil rasigargal are not able to accept a good talented singer?

LR Eswari had a great voice. Her diction is perfect. Her voice can emote like nobody else. It may not suit every song but some of the songs she has sung can never matched by anybody ;
Kaadhodudhan naan pesuven
Paruvam enadhu paadal
Nenjathai alli konjam thaa thaa
There are many more songs in which her husky voice is superb.
Don't judge her by "elanthapayam' type of songs.
By the way, I am no fan of Bavatharini but 'En veetu jannal' is one of her better songs. Her voice seems a little too thin and her diction leaves much to be desired.

Paruvam enathu paadal is by P. Susheela.
Don't compare Bhavatha with professional singers like
Swarnalatha and L.R. Eashwari. Bhavatha needs to
learn a lot in all areas sruthi, thaalam, baavam, etc.

Sorry.
I meant to mention Palingunal oru maaligai and not
Paruvam enadhu paadal

Bhavatharini is a new singer, no doubt. The Maestro's daughter need not be taught how to sing. I admit that she does not sound so professional.
But her voice is fresh and naive when compared to the matured and not-so-sweet voice of the professional singer Swarnalatha. And Swarna's voice is also not universal like Chitra.
I listened to Alexander and indeed like her way of singing. What do you guys mean by singing talents? How on earth do you accept Udit Narayan's voice ? And of all the singers, I hate Hariharan's voice . He might have learnt carnatic and be an expert. I do not care. But his voice is so monotonous and lacks grace as SPB's does. Gosh! listen to his pronunciation of tamil. How is that he is so very accepted?
When it comes to carnatic vocal only, people do not care how the voice is. I heard of many nilaya vidhwans in AIR singing endlessly with that scratchy voice which can never be heard except from some oldies who listen to what-so-over carnatic music.

I think Bawa's voice is yucky and she wouldn't stand a place in TFM if not for her anthastu as Isaignani's daugter.
There is one other male singer (Thank God I can't remember his name) who has been singing in almost all new releases of Ilayaraja. He was the male voice in "Masthana-Masthana"
I believe Ilayaraja's decline began after he constantly used this singer (almost stubbornly, to prove a point.)

The male singer in "Masthana Masthana" was SPB.
Why is that Bhawa's voice is so much criticized? Is it because it is IR's daughter. If you consider her voice is yucky, how is that you guys ever listen to Malgudi Subha or Swarnalatha.

Its Arunmozhi in Masthana Masthana and not spb!!!!! However, Arun is a good singer!!

I am sure that Kathoduthan naan pesava was sung by P.Susheela - MSV had mentioned in an interview that he used Susheela for that song and L R Eswari for some other Susheela-type song, to be different.
Correct me if I'm wrong.

And Arunmozhi is an excellent singer.. listen to 'Varathu Vandha Nayagan' (some Parthipan starrer) and I'm sure you'll agree with me.

I am sure Kadhoduthan naan pesuven was by LR.
Aruns other good numbers being Arumbum thalire from Chandraleka, Amman Koil ellame from Raajavin Parvayile.

Karthik,
Kaathodu thaan naan pesuven is indeed by L.R.Eswari.
Re Arunmozhi: His voice lacks punch, maybe that's why many
dislike him. But he is a good singer. Listen to
Thirumagal un mugam kaana vendum - Veera.
IMO, his deep voice suits this kind of Eakkam oriented songs. He better
stop singing dappaanguthu type songs.

on: Thu Jul 17 02:47:17 EDT 1997
Do you know that Arunmozhi's real name is Napolean and he has been Rajaa's aasthaana flutist for quite some time?
BTW, I feel Bhava's voice is too unmatured. There was an interview with isaignaaniyin isai vaarisugaL in DD some time back. Bhava sang a small carnatic song in that programme. Forgetting raagam, thaaLam etc (I am a zero in Carnatic music), the rendering was really appealing. It will take a year or two for her to make a mark. But the promise is there.

I agree her voice is not professional , but then
it has a charm that makes u listen again just for her voice. may or may not turn out to be a good singer like Chitra, swarna , but i like the few songs she has sung so far. "Unakena raasa " in Maanickam is my favorite ..

To clarify your doubt about Kaathoduthan naan pesuvein.
MSV did indeed make LRE sing a "P.Suseela-kind of song" and P.Suseela sing a "LRE-kind of song." I can't remember the movie (it's a Balachander movie of a man with 2 wives) but the songs are :
Kaathoduthaan naan pesuvein by LRE
Naan saththampohtuthaan paaduvein by PSusila!

To N O Valen.
Kadhodudhan naan pesuvein is from Velli vizha and V Kumar scored the music for that movie.
Also I think you meant Iru Kodugal (a man with 2 wives) - again it is V. Kumar

I stand corrected. The movie is Velli Vizha. But I remember the scene quite vividly - Gemini Ganesan has two wives in the movie. He travels outstation and stays with one wife. His other wife also travels on some business and they end up neighbours in the hotel room! And that's when the song Kaathoduthaan naan pesuvein is sung.

IMO, Bawadharini is one lousy singer. She is
certainly once of the reasons why IR's popularity
is declining. IR has wasted so many good tunes
by giving them to her. I have a feeling that KR is
forced to use Bawadharini.
I personally do not like LR Easwari's voice. I
agree that there are 3 to 5 good songs by her, but
she is one such irritating singer.

I am hearing Bavatharani's song in the movie Kaliyoonjal (malayalam). She is simply great. A very innocent voice and great talent.
Keep it up Bavatharani. You will do your Father proud.

I am getting sick of IR family's nepotism in giving lot of chances to Bhavatharini, whose voice is not good (compared to the other talented female singers). Many of the songs sung by her would have become hits if somebody else have sung instead of her. It is like "management quota"...:-). There is still a similar complaint against IR himself, that he sings too many songs.
