Bhoori,
You are correct. "Senthamizh" tune is a straight lift from "Aan". But Kannadas asked VR to use that tune. Refer to "Pazhaya Paadal Pakkam (PPP)" at http://www.newtfmpage.com/ppp and click on "Suvaiyana Sambavangal". Checkout "Rasigargalai thaalamida vaitha paadal". You need to load "Murasu" font or any TSCII (Tamil Standard Code for Information Interchange) font to view PPP pages.

Thaarapuram sang another song "Azhagu ratham porakkum
athu asanju asanju nadakkum". Do not know the movie. I think he was the principal of the music college in SriLanka for sometime. He did a lot of carnatic kutcheris too.

To my knowledge, Tharapuram Sundararajan composed music for one movie in which he copied ABBA's 'Honey Honey....'. I can not remember the titile of the movie. It came out in the late seventies.

Nalla manam vaazhga, Naadu potra vazhga
I don't remember the name of the movie but it was a Kamal, Sujatha and Vijayakumar starrer. Anybody remebers the name of the movie

Tharapuram became famous for his duet "Unakkagava naan unakkagava" from the Sivaji/K.R.Vijaya starrer "Selvam". Otherwise he was pretty insignificant - like most TMS clones of the sixties

I was listening to PSusheela's 70s songs as I fell asleep last night (en raajavin roja mugam, janakanin magalai, kalaimagal kaipporule, chittukkuruvikkenna kattuppaadu,...) when this lovely number came up: chithirai maatham pournami neram muthu rathangal oorvalam pogum... What's great about this song is the sustained use of the train's sounds. The MD (MSV?) has utilized instruments to reproduce the effect of the train moving in the night (oorvalam)through the entire song. In one of the interludes he uses the train whistle as well and either switches speakers or increases the volume to give a natural train effect. Could we discuss details of this song (movie, situation, MD etc)? Also, are there any other TFM which use a sustained motif like this?

Kishore Krishna: You have mentioned a lovely song. In the movie, 'Raman Eththanai Ramanadi',
Shivaji Ganeshan comes back to his village after becoming very rich, to seek
KRVijaya's hand in marriage. In his train trip, he dreams as if KRV has
come into the train to welcome him with this song. I think the song
has excellent tune, unique beats and the flow is
wonderful.

Thanks to Kishore Krishna for pointing at this wonderful discussion forum! To introduce myself
briefly, am Sreenivas Paruchuri, a native Telugu, a big Indian vintage music buff (esp. concentrating on the period 20s-60s, and in recent years more on Telugu), a hobby vintage filmo- and discographer and am long acquainted with VAK ranga Rao. Well, its almost 10 years since I last spoke Tamil, i.e. leaving Madras after studies. Not that I speak Telugu often! Its not the case either :-).
The very first message I saw under this 'old songs' thread at this site was refering to the film "Aan" (Raj Kapoor, Nargis, 1953). Could someone pl. tell me the Tamizh title of it! Its "prEma lEkhalu" in Telugu. a few words on this film. All the songs were sung by Jikki and AM Rajah, both in Tamil and Telugu versions. Against the widely prevailant opinion that it was "dubbed" (or "remade") in southern languages, I would like to stress that it was simultaneously produced in all three languages! All the 3 lyricists sat "together" in Bombay and composed lyrics to the tunes given by S-J [AND Raj Kapoor :-)].
Regards,
Sreenivas

a couple of quick queries and comments:
Could some one pl. e-mail the list of acronyms/abbreviations used here! I could get most of them, I guess: TMS, MSV, PS, CRS, GR. But, some are unclear. Thanks in advance!
Re: that wonderful _darbaarii kaanaDa_ (Hindusthani version) number by penDyaala in _jagadEkaveeruni katha_ (1961), picturized on NTR
and sung by ghanTasaala .... The other singers involved in Telugu (probably in Tamizh too?) are:
ghanTasaala's long time assistant J. V. raaghavulu (who made a name as MD later) and an asst. of penDyaala by name Bapa Rao, I guess.
Re: CR Subburaaman, I guess I have a lot to say on this GENIUS! Could someone list the Tamil songs from his 1951 film, produced by none other than NSK(rishnan), starring Padmini, whoise Tamil title is just (!) missing me. The Telugu title is: peLLi kooturu (bride). This film has a wonderful, quite unusual, duet by CRS himself and MLV.
Re: karNa was quite a big success in Telugu too, without any 'dubbing smell':-) (borrowing a phrase from a friend). My all time favourite is that PBS' solo: gaaliki kulamEdi ....
Thanks and Regards,
Sreenivas

Sreenivas: You're welcome! Always happy to introduce new resources to people. If only I can figure out a way to charge money for this, I'd have it made:-)
Aan has music by Naushad - this was dubbed into tamil. Mobbat jhoome jinke saath => a dubbed version later copied by MSV again as senthamizh then mozhiyaal. Aah the Raj Kapoor/Nargis starrer was remade as avan. Jikki in one of her TV interviews mentions that she was awarded the title 'Lata Mangeshkar of the South' while singing the songs of this movie in the presence of/by Lata - a bit of a cheek on the part of all involved. BTW, chhotti si yeh zindagani re.. is also available as an AM Raja solo - minnal pOl aagum intha vazhkaiye vaan vil Polume ilamai aanathe aam thunba kathai unathe...
The tamil Jagathalaprathapan song has Seerkazhi himself singing the whole song - his voice is overlaid to give the multiple voices effect. On screen, NTR who is meditating in front of an anthill suddenly multiplies so that there are 4 of him all singing the song. At the end of the song a little door opens up on the anthill and lo and behold there's a starving rishi inside who's totally irritated at being interrupted - watched it on Oliyum Oliyum.

Oops Sorry! The Jagathalaprathapan song has NTR singing in front of a big round stone - at the end of the song it explodes revealing a rishi who is totally irritated.....Memory at 30 isn't what it used to be at 20:-)
On a different note has anyone heard this song: Raadhamadhava vinotharaaja enthan manathin premavilaasaa...Sounds like a telegu dubbing. TMS & P Susheela duet heard while falling asleep last night. What in the name of heaven is a 'raadhamadhava vinotharaaja'?
