I am G.Suresh for those of you who don't know me, this is my second posting in this forum , it is unfortunate that my earlier one 'Has Arr not copied Narumugaiyae' has to be deleted due to some controversies.
Coming to this latest one , We have lot of singers who resembles SPB in singing, closest being Mano, Arun Mozhi and on one song by Ramesh "Rahde en Radhe.." in Japanil Kalyana Raman, Can we identify here who comes next to SPB in terms of Soft voice and versatality. My choice is Arunmozhi , Awaiting response

Rajesh Krishnan - a name unheard but popular in the industry. He has a great voice. He sung a song
in Unnaya Kalyanam Panniriken ( Disai Maari Poyachu). S.P.B himself told that Rajesh is the next S.P.B. He has not told this in any magazine or something like that. Since Rajesh is my cousin, we had been invited to S.P.B's house for lunch and this came up in a chat. We have to wait and see him to get a good break in Tamil. He is a regular singer in Kannada.

Who comes next to uncle SPB.....hahahaha......
Even if you ask a small kid they will say..
for sure..100% it goes to Mano Sir. Don't you
know that eversince those days when Mano sir
comes onto singing industry, Uncle Bala himself
says that Mano sir's voice is a like a carbon
copy to Uncle SPB's. Whatever it is Mano sir has
the best voice ever. The most talented singer.
Mano sir is really a choosen individu. God really
bless Mano sir with the best voice. Which nobody else has it. Long live to Mano Sir. Mano sir was,
is and will be the best singer forever.

I also agree that Mano Was next to SPB once but not now, infact right from his first song 'Then Mozhi' to lot of other songs like 'Nee oru Kaadhal Sangeetham' ,'Meenamma.' , 'Malaiyalla karaiyoram','Madhura mari Kozhundhu Vaasam' , All songs from Idhayathai Thirudaathe , he was doing well though he has a minor negative point of singing by nose at times, But now what had happenned after 'Mukkala Mukkabala' (Thanks to ARR) and 'Azhagiya Lela' he has been singing in false voice, though some songs are good in that too and if continues the same way he may get close to TMS and not to SPB. On the other hand ArunMozhi is improvising a lot song by song when we compare is old songs like 'Veenilavukku Vannathai' , 'varaadhu vandha Naayagan' and all songs from that movie and to today's 'Alli Sundaravalli' from 'Kangallin Vaarthaigall" (Thanks to IR) he has been doing a nice job with a nice melody. Infact all his songs in the non film album 'Then Paandi Cheemaiyilae' is also very good. Then I enjoyed a nice piece of melody from him in Raman Abdulla 'En veettu Jannal' and latest song in 'Veera Thalaattu'.Thats how and Why I rated ArunMozhi as compared to Mano.

I Love Arun Moli's pronunciation of Tamil. He sings it so beautifully, as opposed to SPB, who often mis-pronounces words, as Tamil isn't his first language.

What about krishna raj. He did a good job
in 'Nalam ariya aval' in kadhal kottai. B4 that song, he was track recording for SPB songs.

e. hari: As far as I know nalam was sung by SPB. Atleast my cassette cover says so. I tend to agree with it, after listening to SPB for so many years. :-). Krishnaraj has sung the veLLarikka song in kaadhal kOttai. Also another song in Paanchaalankurichchi.. at best he can be a Shahul Hameed substitute..

Some of Krishnaraj's recent hits after "vellarikkaa" (not his first song) are
baapilonaa - kaalamellaam kaathal vaazhga
thanjaavooru manneduthu - porkkaalam
ithayam ithyam inaigirathe - vidukathai (with chitra)
He sure is a promising singer, but SPB range-ukku ippo compare panna mudiyaathu. However, I feel he will turn out to be more versatile than ArunMozhi.

e.hari & Ravi, you both are right. There are two versions of the same song "Nalam Nalamariya Aaval" sung by SPB&ANU, KRaj&Anu respectively and the one that made it to the movie was "SPB&Anu" version.
As Ravi pointed out, KRaj is a good singer but not( yet! ) close to the level of SPB at all. He can become a versatile singer but I am not sure if we should compare him to SPB.
Recently, I remember seeing him singer under non-Deva movies for a change. I guess he is not yet ready for PrimeTime.
That makes me ask this question: why do we find two versions of the same song but by different singer(s) when only one makes it to the movie. There are several such songs
1. "Nalam Nalamariya Aaval"
2. "Indumaha Samuthiramey" where UK and HH have sung for the two different versions.
3. In "Veerathalaattu", I see similar sounding songs sung by Arunmozhi&Swarnalatha in one version and Gangai Amaran & S.P.Shailaja in the other and I don't know if either one or both will make it to the movie.
4. "Yennal Thaalaatta Varuvaala" has two male versions sung by HH & IR respectively but only HH version made it to the movie.
5. In Marumalarchi, there is a song "Nanri Solla Unakku Vaarthai Illai Yenakku" in two versions, one sung by HH & Devi(?) and the other by UK & CH and I don't know if either one or both made it to the movie( I doubt that both would have made it!! )
There are more such examples - why do MDs do this? Is it because, after they do one version, they are not satisfied for some reasons and then they do the other. If that is the case, it says bad about the singers of the version that gets replaced. Do they still get paid for the "edited-out" song?

Amar: Atleast for some songs, like ennai thaalaatta varuvaaLA & pottu vaiththa oru vatta nila (idhayam), I think IR sang "track" for the main singers and the track version turned out so good that they decided to release that also. aanal kadhaikku thEvai padum ena vEra signers padina versionayE padathula use pannaraanga. It is my guess.

Amar i was also thinking on the same lines. And generally most of UKs version doesnt make it to the film (pulveli pulveli, porull thedum boomiyil,
indhu maha samidharamaa, nandri solla unakku(the female singer for both versions is Amudha))
Is this kinda sentimental??UK paatu paadi veliyidaamal adhai veru yaaravadhu paadi nangu prabalamaagum endra nambikkaiya??

Well, I am told that Raaja sings for his own
"thirupthi" sometimes fully knowing that the song wouldnt feature on the screen. It seems he loves to leave a copy of his version(voice) of the best melody!!

On Seeing the discussion on same song by more than one singer, particularly 'Ennai Thaalatta varuvalla' I feel though Hari's voice is melting melody and soft the effect ' anubavaithu paaduthal' is more in Raja's version? What do you guys feel about it, Is that may be the song iteself is Raja's baby.

Gopal:
Is that you? Good to have you back in TFM discussions.
Anyway, Ramki, "Nanri Solla Yenakku" one version sung by UK & Amudha( thanks for correcting it ) but the other one, I am sure, is sung by HH & Chitra( my cassette says so and the voice sounds like Chitra too! ). As Ravi points out, I can understand some versions where the MDs or other (so-called) tape-singers or track-singers sing the track for the actual singer and sometimes that version sounds good enough to make it to the album. It could be also to fill up the cassette sides. But, cases where two equally good singers sing and only one makes it to the album, I wonder what and how the rejected singer feels about the whole thing!!! I also would like to know if they are given a proper explanation. Just wondering!!!
Ramki, this is interesting to ponder over your notion that UK gets used as a temporary version just to make sure the other version by another singer will become popular - "Sagunam" or "Superstitious"?
