Fazil and IR

Fazil and Ilaiyaraja have produced some of the greatest music. Infact, Fazil is probably the only director who has stuck with IR while others have come and gone (Mani Ratnam, Bharathiraja, etc.,.) What do you guys think is their best movie together quality wise and music wise?

My opinion:

Quality wise : Varusham 16
Music wise: Varusham 16

Varusham 16 has unbelievably fantastic songs, great acting and first-class direction by Fazil. What do you guys think?

  Varsham 16 is my best pick: followed by:
  
  Poove Poochhoodava (the title song both Chitra & Yesudas versions and Chinna Kuyil PAdum are great numbers) It had some great BGM score!
  
  Poovizhi Vaasalile (Chinna Chinna ROjappoove & Oru KiLiyin Thanimayile are my fav. and the haunting bGM score Wow!)
  
  ArangEtra vELai (AgAya veNNilave was the best). The Hindi version by Priyadarshan 'Hera Pheri' had some horrible songs by who else? Anu Malik!!!
  
  KiLip PEchu Ketkvaa (the movie flopped, and the songs were not very poplular too)
  
  
  Any other movie that I missed here?

  Is "KATPURA MULLAI" a Fazil movie as well?
  
  I think the movie had Srividhya and Amala and
  theres a song with the movie title can't remember any other songs,I saw the movie about 9 years ago.

  Yes, How can I forget KM, KaNNukkuL Nilavu & En Bommukutti Ammavukku?
  The latter had a real haunting melody: 'Uyire Uyirin Oliye, oru naaL uRavaa idhuve'.
  I think KaRpoora Mullai was also a Fazil film. It was a remake of the Malayalam film: 'Ende Surya Putrikku'.
  
  Hope Fazil returns to Tamil films with yet another winner from his favourite MD!

  I read somewhere that the next Fazil movie is going to have Madhavan in the lead and produced by Sangili Murugan (KM producer). No news about the MD.

  If Sangili Murugan is the producer, then the MD will be Ilayaraajaa. No doubt. Here I want to quote one of the sayings of Fazil, in AV interview -
  ' In my movies, I want thendral, not puyal, for a scene where a girl is dancing. Thendrallaik kodukka rajaa sir-al mattumae mudiyum'

  Fazil, in his Pongal interview to Jaya TV, said that IR composed the songs for "Poove Poochoodava" in 1 hour flat!
  
  He also said that "Aagaya Vennilave" (Arangetra Velai) was the only song in all his movies with IR that he didn't like at the 1st instant. Apparently, IR insisted that it would come out well, and when KJY finished singing, he told Fazil that it was a lovely song and that it would be a surefire hit..

  In Arangetra Velai, i loved the "Agaya Vennilave" song. other good songs from the movie is "gunde onnu", "thai ariyatha", and one fast song sung bu janagaraj and group in the movie...
  
  if you guys whould have noticed , during the end credit titles, the song agaya vennilave is played instrumental version , a duet of Flute and Veena.. AWESOMEEEEEE

  Ravi, for some reason the film varusham 16 didn't go well with me -inspite of great music (may be because I saw the Malayalam original which was very soft...realistic...ennennum kaNNEttande)
  
  `poovE poochooda vA' is definitely the best of this combo...chinnakkuyil & poovE are two of the best ever songs of TFM, IMHO.
  
  I always thought KJY is the best in singing `emotional' songs (can also be interpreted as `sentimental' songs which used to be always based on blood relations in the TF context)...but later realized that KSC beats him miles ahead...listen to the KSC version of `poovE poochooda vA' ...goose pimples...
  
  A close MalayaLi associate of mine, who admires KJY to the point of hanging his poster in his room declares: whenever same song is given to both KJY & KSC, KSC beats him in the emotional content by miles...
  
  In TFM, for such blood-relationship-sentimental-emotional songs, I think this is my order of rating: KSC-KJY-TMS-SJ-IR. (SPB, though my otherwise fav singer, falls flat. PS too lacks this quality...even though I grew up with my mother singing PS songs as thAlAttu, she lacks emotional appeal IMO...examples, malarndhum malarAdha, poonchittukkannangaL, mAnE oru mangalachippi, rAjA chinna rAja poonthaLilE)

  'KSC beats him in the emotional content by miles' - pretty much true. But what to do ? KJY's buttery voice seems to gel with the soul more easily than KSC's..

  Any idea why Fazil prefers IR for his tamil movies ONLY ? IR is a well known composer in MFM too and it is really strange why he is not going for IR when making any Malayalam movie ...
  
  BTW, Is there some Fazil - IR Combo movie in Malayaalam ? I remember one IR malayalam movie *ing Mammooty dubbed in tamil, 'SolaipponthendRalil uunjalaadum'nnu oru nalla paattu irukku athila, I didn't see the movie, But the song is very emotional and highly Fazilish, No idea if it is actually directed by Fazil.,

  I think barring a thread comparing SPB with LM on quantitative stuff, we didn't have much of male-female comparisons...why not an analysis of KJY v/s KSC?
  
  Take the song `theN pAndiththamizhE'...The best part of this song (i.e. next best to the classic 1st interlude) is the beginning of 1st saraNam when KSC starts...`vAzhththi unnaippAdavE, vArthai thOndRavillayE'...so much of power she infuses in the singing which makes it so memorable...
  
  Disclaimer: I'm a great admirer of KJY & SPB ( infact, for a longer period than KSC):-) adikka varAdheenga:-))
  
  Back to the thread: I think KSC's first (i.e released first) TFM song was from poovE poochooda vA. Fazil's great gift to TFM!

  Yes it's from a Fazil film -`pappayude swandham appoos' & I think till date it's one of the biggest hit songs in MFM for IR.

  very consistent and healthy relationship between IR and Fazil, shows how much Fazil values relationships and not opportunism. Maybe it is good for MR, BR and otehrs to encourage talents and narrow the gap in the scene, but is sad to see that these guys did not come back to IR. that would be something to be cherished. but these guys go where the money is. for that reason, i do not have regards for the likes of MR, BR and other opportunists. I liked KM songs and even Kannukkul Nilavu was so different. Best IR-Fazil song i enjoy really unabashedly is: Sivakami Nenapinile in KPKetkava

  PSA is by IR. It was dubbed to tamil as 'poove poN poove'.
  
  There is one Fazil telugu movie *ing Nagarjuna,Nagma and Sharadha that was dubbed to tamil..it had music by Maragathamani
