Vidyasagar seems hell bent on giving at least one song to Udit Narayan in every film of his, and Udit doesn't seem to put in an iota of effort in pronunciation, forget getting into the emotions of the songs. It's not the question of correct accent, but butchering of lyrics!!! Any ideas why VS has this dreadful fascination?

Hi,
Indeed its a Good question. Its better to avoid listening this kind of tamil killer songs.
"tamil pattu rasigargalukku oru vendukol - pls yarum udit narayanan padum pattai kettkadheergal"

do you guyes really believe that the Thamizh language is weak enough to be killed by these songs?
I think we should allow Tamizh to be very flexible so that it can infilterate into other languages like what the language Englis has done. This way, Tamil words will become English words or words of other languages

Well...a good topic....
Vidyasagar is bringing Udit to Malayalam as well!!!
Oh my God...if you think Udit pronounces Tamil wrong, listen to him sing Malayalam....I first tought it was Marathi or Bengali and only after listening to it the 3rd time I found out it was Malayalam...
There are enough good singers in our own languages...why do you need these guys from outside???

Good one Maverick! Prajadevan - that was exactly my fear too. Though my mother tongue is not Malayalam, I love Mal songs mainly because of its freshness and because only MFM was pure until sometime back with less of jazzy and rocking music. But I guess with the advent of Vidyasagar, things have changed (for the bad!) there too! And Udit singing in Malayalam!! Oh! that would be the 'last straw'. I just hope this trend doesnt set there too where language/pronounciation is respected.
I think the MDs attribute popularity of a song to its singer. Though many songs sung by North Indian singers with a very bad pronounciation, they went on to become hits because of the tunes. Listeners have not differed on the fact that the pronounication is bad. I dont know why MDs still dont realise this.
I agree Music doesnt have language but that is for the listener. I can enjoy a German, French, Assamese, Urdu song but when I know a language I would definitely not want to hear it being murdered! I love the voices of Udit and Sadhana Sargam but I definitely feel bad hearing them sing in Tamil. In a way its nice to see so many people have the same view!! I am happy atleast for that - that people still respect and appreciate good pronounciations.

Sashana Sargam is not that bad.
She has herself revealed how Ilaiyaraaja would sit with her and go over the nuances of Tamil pronounciation. Even ARR mentioned that Sadhana is one singer who makes it a point to brush up her diction before entering the singer's booth. However even after a half hour brush up influence of her native tongue is bound to creep in.
Atleast she tried hard, unlike other guys like Udit etc who sing in a jiffy and abscond with the money!

atleast VS gives udit 'dabbanguththu' numbers, which is 'sagikka'ble, See this YSR - he gave 'enthan uyirth thozi' song from winner to Udit and Our Dear Singer friend murdered it 102 % !
BTW, listened to Udit's song in thirumalai - Really funny :-)

I think UDIT NARAYAN is an extreme form of punishment sent by the vengeful Gods to torment those people who used to criticise KJY, SPB, PS et al for their minor lapses in tamil pronunciation. there are some guys here in this forum who keep carping on KJY's pronouncing piLLai instead of pillai (or vice-versa?)etc.. somewhere else another smart guy wrote P Susheela went "neramithu.. neramithu.. nenjil VORU pattezhuthu.." instead of "...nenjil ORU pattezhuthu" etc.. There are such nit-pickers who are blind (or deaf?) to the magnificent music of KJY/SPB/PS etc., but latch onto some minor pronunciation error, like flees onto only some wound on a beautiful body, but do not see the body itself. To such guys is this extreme providential revenge in the form of UDIT NARAYAN being sent. Since he is AN ACT OF GOD it is futile to rile at the MDs who inflict the torure. you see, these MDs are merely tools of the GODS in their grant scheme of things. Let the carpers and nit-pickers be tormented like in hell listening to this UDIT NARAYAN RASP-SODY.. no pity for them..no deliverance..

Why are you blaming udit for bad pronunciation?
Can YOU GUYS even speak in these languages with decent pronunciation?
The guy is asked to sing in different languages because people will listen if a top singer will sing it. Give him time to learn the pronunciation.

max,
we can definitely speak proper tamizh, or else nobody wud worry about his pronounciation however stupid it is
time to learn the pronounciation?? .. how long? ... he's been in TFM for like 7-8 years if i am correct ... nobody has any hope!
a top singer should take effort to improve his singing ... there seems to be no improvement as regards his pronounciation ... according to him, makkal intha yelavu edutha paatta kaekkara varaikkum paruva illai!

Couldn't have put it in a better way !!! One such nit-picker is Vairamuthu. I wonder how he has been so silent about bad pronunciation and music dominating words etc.. in the last 10 years !!

One of my long time dreams is to have Vairamuth sitting in the singer's booth when Udit Narayan sings with a clear instruction to teach UN and get the perfect pronunciation/diction. And .... give KJJ the previlege of watching/relishing it...

am sorry mr.bcd (huh...cudnt get a better fake name??)..
ok..coming to the point.. who cares the damn when you speak a language the foul way when you sing and dance in your rest room. But my friend, dont you think one must perfect his diction when he is address a large audience. For god's sake, dont ask some intelligent crap like "First DO YOU guys know how to talk the language...blah..blah... and what not"... It is being questioned just coz its my language and when someone is acting an ambassador to my language, I got to check if it is correct, leave apart if I myself am good at the language or not. I know this is a harsh way of responding you... but my friend, I couldnt find a better answer for you... got it??
