Rex, MS and all
Thanks for the support! I am working on setting up a help page that will help in converting songs from cassettes into real audio files and then publishing on the Net. This should speeden up songs coming to the Net.

Another problem I face is that if I type the name of the .rm file I am able to download it. Does this mean that the .rm and the corresponding .ram file be renamed and uploaded ?

oops! typo in the last but one post. It is Nagakshathangal.

Rex,
I am in sunny Southern California - LA.
MS,
If you type the .rm file it will get downloaded. It is the .ram file that tells the web server not to download but to stream. Real Networks made this thing really convoluted. Think of it this way. If the .rm file is your house, then the .ram file is the post box that contains the address to your house.
More important when it says it is downloading the file, it is only downloading a copy of your file. The original file is still on your web site.

I hope this would help you:
I am seeing a song in a webpage. I am now clicking the link (which has been linked to .RAM file and not the .RM file)....now this is what happens:
1. Web-browser fetches the .RAM file to the REALPLAYER.
2. REALPLAYER reads the information content from the .RAM file which is going to be the one-line URL address of the actual .RM or .RA file which might be lying elsewhere.
3. Now the webserver knows (it had been set with appropriate mime formats) that it has to buffer the song to the Realplayer rather than sending the whole file, whenever the .RAM file is invoked. So it buffers the song and sends it to Realplayer.
SO ALWAYS LINK IT TO .RAM FILE AND NOT .RA OR .RM FILE.

Good site at swara.com! Very good collection. I loved hearing Aadi Varum, Engirundho, Otha Ruva and many others, after a long time. One correction, "Taj mahal" of Amaravathi was not scored by Raja. It is by some newbie. I forgot his name. That film had other good numbers like "Putha pudhu malare" and one more, I forgot. Taj Mahal is the best. I like the title music(song?) of that film also. Can u try that? My best wishes for a great success of ur site!
Rex:
Are you going to put Aadi varum and Otha ruva now? I would suggest you to put it. Since you have already done the work, I feel its ok even if it is redundantly found in two sites. Let the fans decide which one has better quality. Let this be a healthy competition, everyone of us would benefit out of it! I hope Ravi will not have any objection.
Reg, Raakkamma, I would urge you to put the *complete* song in MP3. Once again thanx for Then Poove, I would rate it the best duet, sung by the best pair, scored by the best composer, recorded by our beloved Vashishtar:-)

Rex,
If you don't mind could you let me know the setup for noise reduction in Goldwave?
Inspite of messing up with that--I am still getting the "hisss' noise.

R.Balaji:
I had discussed about this issue at great lengths in the same thread. Please refer to the "Old Responses".
Use - Noise Reduction. In that check "Use Continuous Spectrum". LEt other defaults value be there. Now see where you can notice more noise and have the pointer value set to that and then allow the noise reduction operator to work.
While doing this be very cautious to see that the pointer is set to that point where you can listen ONLY NOISE. OR else it will also remove the song and voice.
IF you have more questions feel free to post it here.
But please do check old responses, as this point was dealt in great detail.

Rex,
Thanks for the information.I checked back the Old responses.I was unable to find any discussion about this.
If you could or MS or SHibu could clarify this noise reduction and some improvement in the quality of song would be great.
Rex as you told --this is what I did
1. recorded a song--when half way thru the song i opened the noise reduction and looked at the graph.I saw 2 lines(red and green)--curve.
2.Then i clicked on the current spectrum.
Still the quality was not good.
I think i should meddle with the points. How do you identify the noise frm the graph? How to set the cue points ?
Other "discussioners" who are not interested in this please do apologize for this inconvenince and keepp giving your support to Rex.
Thanks

"Devanin Koil..." from "Aruvadai Naal" does not sound very good. I think the bass is too high and my computer speakers vibrate and distort the song slightly :-(( I wanted to tell this to you for a very long time, but somehow it kept slipping my mind - probably because I am totally mesmerized by every other song in your page :-)) Another suggestion - you have an extensive knowledge in song recording, perhaps you can write up this stuff and post it in your page as a FAQ or even just an article. I am sure many will find it useful and it will give an additional perspective to your page. ennada ivan baatukku advice koduthunde poranennu ninakkadheenga, ellam oru urimayila thaan sollaraen :-))) Devanin Koil mattum konjam seripaduththidunga, please :-)

Srinath:
That is true. I sincerely wish to aplogize for that. IT was because I had to record during the initial days without proper cords to connect my tape recorder to the computer. So what happened was that I could not hear while the song was recorded. There were also other problems, initially. But MS had also mentioned about that song. So I will definitely re-encode that song for you probably say within a day or two.
I should also re-encode songs like, "Ponnin Thiruvonam", "Megam Kottatum", "Oru Maalai Chandiran", etc....because of various problems that I myself notice in the recording.
Once again sorry and will definitely try to refurbish them.
Your advice is taken....and will definitely do that in my page....
Time....that is my biggest problem right now. With just a week ahead of graduation, I am fighting hard for time. But this webpage is my passion and you are my friends and esteemed guests. This is my hobby and has moreover turned as a passion. Definitely I will try to whatever is possible before my India trip. If I am not able to do these things, I will definitely do that once I am back.

To Swara.com site maintainer's attention:
Taj mahal thevayillai annamey annamey - from Amaravathi was tuned by "Balabaarathi" and not IR. Thalaivaasal, Amaravathy and GolMaal are the three movies to this very good music director's credit. Poor man, he has not got the attention he deserves.
